Amazing an convenient experience
Amazing and unique experience. I don't get to sleep in a train hostel every day. It's also really well located since it's next to the train to the airport and city centre, the tram and the metro. There's staff 24 hours so it was safe.

If you book this property through Expedia, they will make you pay twice the booking price as they say that you book only 1 bed (even if you book for 2 people and that the price for 2 people is similar to what is on their website). Do not book through Expedia! It's overall a nice place, but a scam for people who do not book on their own website. They do not let you know about it upon check-in but will most definitely take the money from your bank account!

Yes this is unique but the experience is not desirable. The rooms are small and cluttered with cords and no place to store your belongings, you are not given a room key but are told.to rely on your roomates to have the receptionist lock it when they leave. There is 1 possibly 2 very small toilets on the train car that holds close to over 40 ppl. I was told that the room next to me was being paid for by the government so i assume its either for homeless, rehab or exCon which is fine except I paid more here than the usual hostel. The trains next door run until 1am and start up again at 7am. I woke up the 1st morning with very swollen eyes and bite bumps all over my face. There is 1 outlet with an extension cord per 3 bunks. When I did complain to the owner as I was running out the door he told me I should have gotten out of bed at 1:30am and told him about the fighting in the room next to me. The receptionists are nice and helpful but im sure limited on what can be done. Dont stay here unless its your last choice or you are young and dont care.

Hi Victoria, sorry you did not enjoy your time with us. Since we are a real train, space is limited and the walls are admittedly not as insulated as a traditional structure. And if windows are closed noise from outside stays outside. We do enforce quiet time however from 23hr-7hr to reduce noise in the compartments. If fellow guests are too loud, you can always inform staff who are happy to step in when relevant. By the way the guests next to you paid their stay themselves.

I wanted to say that my trip to Amsterdam Train Lodge hostel was absolutely fantastic. The staff were all very friendly. Sympathetic of my situation I found myself in on arrival, and communications before I left the UK, and after check out. The breakfast was out of this world, very tasty and set me up for the day. They were very knowledeable about from fares for public transport through to where the best attractions were. They couldnt do enough for you. Highly recommended, and if your a train spotter as I am, it was a trainspotters paradise!!

This has to be the worst hostel in Amsterdam. The owners are extremely rude and tried to charge me extra. Never ever stay there. Thank me later.

Dear Orvar, you booked for the Saturday but you arrived Friday in the middle of the night. Based on your condition we offered you a bed so you could rest. Actually regarding your condition you needed a hotel with private room and facilities instead. You left Saturday morning for a 3 star hotel. Hope you are well again.

The lodge was a great place, it's out of the hustle and close enough by transit to many of the attractions. I had an unfortunate experience of my cell phone stolen from the charger in the room by one of the occupants. The staff kicked in gear to help me with time checks, directions, etc. made me feel a lot better about a situation out of any ones control. They have a sign posted as to cameras for security but as to the day I left they don't have any in place. So it's best to not to loose site of your belonging not even while sleeping. I had great assistance to make the trip great, the place is unique and it's a place for riding solo. Please no nice nasty remarks really can't handle.

Train Lodge close to Sloterdijk station
Train lodge within close walking distance to Sloterdijk station and an hours walk into Amsterdam centre. Hotel staff were lovely and very welcoming and the facilities were perfect with shared showering and toilet facilities.

Smallest rooms ever!
Ridiculously small room for 3 people. Even for a single person is too small. I made a mistake booking this hostel for 5 nights. 2 nights max if you wanna to experience fun living in the train. Also overpriced, and it’s definitely not worth €600 for our stay. Staff is every morning and every evening different. The key to your room is not given. We have to ask to lock and unlock our room. it was annoying. No towels included in the price, no breakfast.

Really helpful and friendly staff. Felt really safe travelling alone. Really cool set up with the converted train just a lack of space to settling in as the rooms are so small. One min walk from the station so really easy to get into the center of Amsterdam.

Fantastic hotel for the price & the location was superb! The rooms are small, so with 3 adults and cases etc it is a little bit of a squeeze but for the price it is a fantastic hostel. Room was clean and the bathrooms/toilets were always clean! Reception was manned 24 hours which was lovely and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

A good experience
I want to start off with the location of this place; it's perfect! This place is right next to a major public transportation hub. If you're flying in or coming in on a train, it's too easy to get to the hostel. It's definitely not a walking distance to Amsterdam city, but it's a 10 minute train ride or 15-20 minutes tram ride. It's also a great hub to head to other cities in the Nederlands. The hostel itself is pretty good. I stayed in a 6 man room, the bathrooms were easily accesible for me throughout my stay. I would like to say that the spaces are small, but very livable. My biggest complaint about this place is the amount of dust in the rooms. I would readjust my bedsheets and I can see a big dust cloud come up; It's very disturbing. I wouldn't come back here because of the amount of dust. If the dust clears I would come back without thinking twice.

It was a good stay, bunk bed was comfy enough, stayed with 5 others and made friends with 1 guy. Had no issues with anyone. It can get tight walking down the carriages, but problem when everyone is friendly :)

Really Cool Experience
The Train Lodge was SUCH a cool experience. I went in open minded. I got what a paid for. somewhere to sleep with relative comfort, somewhere to charge my phone, somewhere to leave my clothes and valuables (the reception area has a safe) whilst I explored the city. Two stops away from the airport. 1 stop away from the City Centre. 1 minute walk from train station and 2 minutes from the tram line. Laid back friendly atmosphere amongst my shared accommodation. Do not miss a chance to stay at the Train Lodge, even for 1 night! TIP: I was in the top bunk. I had adequate space and enough privacy to change if needed and I was not as disturbed as the others in the bunks below me. Go in with an open mind, don't forget this is a hostel!

Very friendly, nice place to stay
Staying in a retired Swiss Rail sleeper car has been one of the best experiences on this trip to Amsterdam! Very lovely mix of international staff and guests, can be a bit noisy on the weekends, but overall one of the most fun and friendly places I've stayed. The only problem is it is not able to accommodate people with physical disabilities, and the bunks are somewhat hard and narrow. But I would highly recommend it to able-bodied visitors who enjoy meeting new and interesting people, and want a more unique experience than a generic hostel or hotel.

Ok place for kids. Firstly there is not much space..it's expected cause it's a slightly converted train. However everything is cleverly designed. I was ok with that. Next it is a hostel as posted out side of the lodge not a hotel as advertised on Expedia which is a reputable website. For the inconvenience of space they should compensate with a better service or/and included breakfast. Or just an included cup of tea or coffee. the location is very convenient for getting to and from Central Amsterdam and it looks like the staff are trying hard to be good but are limited. All this because the website chose this place for us when we clearly chose another place... poorly designed website. You either like it or you don't

One stop away from Amsterdam Centraal (3-4 EUR ride), < 30 mins by bike. Literally just steps away from Sloterdijk station. Very cute hostel with friendly staff available 24 hours a day. Slept in a 6-bunk car of all females; overall very nice and quiet guests throughout the hostel. Four outlets for the whole room. Shared bathroom was clean with ample hot water. Wifi worked great! Hostel holds luggage in an open area of the main train car, so be sure to lock your suitcase or take valuables with you. Towels can be rented for 5 EUR, or bring your own. The only negative comment I have is I paid for a bed in a 4-berth train car. There was some mix-up with my reservation so they put me in a 6-berth train car and told me that there weren't any other women scheduled to sleep there ("Yay! Lucky single!" I thought), but at 22.30 the door was opened and 5 other women came in. The hostel employee was kind about it, but it was jarring to hear at 22.30, "Sorry! You have roommates now!" when I was already in bed with the lights out. As I said before, the other roommates were very nice and respectful and very quiet when they came back later to go to bed so it wasn't an issue. I would stay here again if I were in the area; good value for the cost (Amsterdam is expensive to sleep in!!). You can buy some snacks & beer from the hostel. Supermarket nearby for other food.. I'm a light sleeper and it was quiet despite being near train station.

Check in was at 3, got there at 3, my cabin was still being cleaned, so I just sad there til 4:15. I paid for a cabin with 2 beds, was placed in one with 3. This is by far the smallest hostel room I've ever seen. The pictures look way different than the actual location. Way too expensive for what you get.

You never could have paid for a compartment with 2 beds because we only have 3 beds and 6 beds compartments! Its is a hostel in a train and the picture are clear about it.

I would recommend for the experience for a few nights as it was very interesting and fun. However, there isn't a lot of space in the rooms and it's quite far out from the centre so we probably would not return but are glad to have been once.

Train Lodge is a hostel in a original train like it is discribed. Train Lodge is 5 minutes by train from the centre and by bus or tram 15 minutes.

First time in Hostel
Thank you Train Lodge for an enjoyable stay, choice of accommodations was for for my 6 year old Son, Train mad! I normally stay in 4 star Hotels & very fussy about cleanliness, I was going with an open mind that I would take the Train Lodge as an experience. I arrived to a very clean bed, room basin was spotless, room didn't smell, communal shower room was clean every day & so was the toilet, I'm a person who finds dirt & dust so I hope people appreciate the Lady who cleans & does an excellent job. Location so close to Station but doesn't stop you sleeping, 2 mins to Spar shop, buses & trams 1 minute away, Don't hesitate to book I'm hard to please & I have nothing to complain about, my Husband is also happy!!

Fun to stay here
Great location for access to the city but not much around the immediate area. Staff was wonderful, especially Hannah Top bunk was quite stuffy despite the open window in the compartment.
