We have just returned from a short visit to Dubrovnic (spent one night) as our base was in Podstrana near Split. It was absolutely ideal for us as we wanted to visit the old town, enjoys the amazing views. Our host, Felix, was very welcoming and very keen to please. After a fairly long drive, we opted for a quick "fix" at the fast food bar below the apartment which we ate on the terrace of the apartment but there are 2 other restaurants close by. The room was all we needed with drinks in the fridge, an immaculate bathroom. The breakfast from the bakery downstairs (virtually) was the best way to start the day- highly recommended! The remparts offer breathtaking views but is a hot walk and takes a good hour (not good for vertigo sufferers or people with mobility issues). The old town oozes charm and history where you can relax in cafes, restaurants and indulge in souvenir shops but be warned, everything seems to be so much more expensive than in the rest of the country. The trip on the cable car (which you can catch from outside the old town) is well worth it and gives you a true perspective of Dubrovnic's incredible setting. After a "hard day's trekking, a swim in the nearby pebbly and rocky beach was simply wonderful. We could not have found a better spot to stay especially when you compare the prices at nearby hotels. We would go back there without hesitation.
