Crete stay
Pros: nice space; room darkening shutters that also kept the noise out; each room had its own air conditioning; nice deck and patio; close to the sea; owner provided a bottle of wine, some fruit, a cake roll, a couple bottles of water, and raki. Cons: each bathroom had only a half a roll of toilet paper and we were there 4 nights. A spare roll for each bathroom was requested, but owner stated that it was not in the house rules to provide that. He did say he would bring one over that evening, but he did not. (I know he wasn’t feeling well while we were there) We requested a trash bag so we could empty our kitchen garbage. Request was denied. Could be better: there was no plastic wrap, foil, or baggies. If you plan to cook and store leftovers bringing some ziplocks would be useful. Coffee, sugar, and salt were provided, but no additional spices or cooking oil. I know some VRBO’s don’t stock many of these items and others do. I tend to be more satisfied for the places that do have the extras. I think it’s good to know ahead of time. There were some beach chairs in the back of the house that we didn’t see until the last day as it wasn’t pointed out on check-in. Shower heads were hand held, which was inconvenient, but doable.

Perfect!
I would give more stars if I could. Property owners were amazing. Even took us to the grocery store to stock up. Baked us treats and we had welcome wine and local raki. We had so much fun. Villa Eva was perfect for us!

What an amazing property and overall experience!
What an amazing property and overall experience. Located just outside Heraklion, close enough to ancient and modern cites but outside of the city, near the sea is ideal. Someone wrote that the airplanes bothered them, I don’t know what they were talking about, the planes stopped at @11pm and were not a problem for us. Three couples stayed there and there was plenty of room and amenities for all. A great garden for our breakfast, a nice balcony to relax in the evening. The house is modern with some nice traditional-looking furniture. But the property’s great advantage is the owner, George. He treated us with local drinks (raki and rakomelo) fruits sweets etc. he also gave us three superb recommendations for dinners. One taverna specializing in seafood and one in grilled meats. Both were more than what we expected. Fresh delicious food and reasonably priced (both owners were great as well). He also suggested a pricier seaside seafood restaurant to celebrate my birthday. This was also a great choice. If you are a party of six looking for accommodations in the area this is your place!

Wir sind als Paar 79 u.74 Jahre sehr gut empfangen worden und Gregor ist mit uns erst einmal einkaufen gefahren es ist alles auch zu Fuss erreichbar Tavernen und Minimarkt Bäckerei wir haben uns für 5 Tage ein Auto gemietet direkt nah ch beim Haus haben aber gemerkt dass es bessere Anbieter gibt und günstig ere .Das Haus ist einfach zu der Nähe zum Strand optimal allerdings durch die Nähe zum Flughafen auch mit Fluglärm aber man gewöhnt sich daran U

Lovely property very close to a good beach
The property was exactly as described and the photographs truly reflected the property and garden. The owners were exceptional. Eva and Georgio went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable and trouble free. On arrival we were met and a lovely lunch was waiting for us along with many other food and drink treats. Georgio then offered to take us in his car to show us the local area, where the supermarkets and restaurants were and which roads to take. It saved us a lot of hassle in trying to find your own way around the small narrow roads. The beach is only a short walk - less than 5 minutes and there are lovely sun beds to hire for not a lot of money. The beach is a lovely clean sandy beach and really good for swimming. We ate out a lot at the next village along the coast - Kota Gouves which is a lot larger than Gournes - it has lots of really good restaurants and has a good atmosphere and buzz about it. Would thoroughly recommend a holiday here.

Superb house in a great location
We spent a wonderful week in this house. It is not too far from Heraklion but the neighborhood is quiet and there is a lovely little beach just 50 meters away. The hosts were delightful and very responsive. We highly recommend this property!

Wonderful Villa...
Our family of four just returned from a wonderful five-day vacation at Casa Eva. The Villa is exactly as pictured -- spacious, tastefully, lovingly furnished, and very clean and comfortable. It features a lovely, well-tended garden with a variety of flowers. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Eva and George with a home-cooked breakfast, fruit and bottles of wine and Cretan raki. All the basics were supplied. George was so kind that he even took us for a drive around the area to familiarize us while offering tips on restaurants, grocery stores and attractions. He was available to answer all our questions. Casa Eva is located in a quiet area next to a family beach. The quiet was interrupted only by birds and cicadas and an occasional airplane (mostly heard while at the beach, but hardly noticeable while inside). Crete is a beautiful place -- we drove around quite a bit to Knossos, Heraklion and Rethymnon. We look forward to coming back to Crete and Villa Eva.

Best location for exploring the archeological sites.
Cool, spacious, well equipped and amazing views. Yes, under the flight path for Heraklion approach, but it’s fun & definitely no problem with double-glazed doors closed at night & a/c on; I slept like a baby!! Appreciated the fly screens too. Wi-Fi brilliant. All cooking appliances & gadgets there, condiments etc., it felt like staying with close friends. As for the gifts on arrival! What can I say! Eva, Georgos & Natasha were so generous with food for our arrival, wine (& more!), daily gifts of home cooked treats, & also Georgos showed us the vicinity on arrival, where to shop, where to eat, pharmacy, routes, car parks, everything imaginable to make our stay fantastic. We can’t thank them enough! Must also add, photos are true to the reality! No staged scenes, no airbrushing; really honest. Also, there is a hair dryer, good drying area for beach clothes or general washing, cold tap outside to wash sand off feet. And then the garden . . . The perfumes were heady, frangipani, jasmine, scented geranium, basil, mint & twinkling lights in the trees! Loved it! Oh & lashings of hot water; plumbing really good!! Thank you all for a lovely stay.

Beautiful villa
The hosts were absolutely amazing - they greeted us with home cooked meals, drinks and a big bowl of fruits. Very friendly and welcoming. Also, since we didn't rent a car and taxis were surprisingly expensive in Greece, Eva's husband gave us a ride to a local supermarket to get some groceries. We are very grateful for Eva's hospitality.

False advertisement - intensive passage of planes over the house
On the presentation card, it is indicated VERY CALM. It was the impression we had when we arrived around 1:30 am. But what awakening around 7am during the resumption of activity of the airport of Heraklion: thrill of jet engines in phase of landing every 5 minutes ... I understand why the owner was very eager to receive the balance of our payment immediately upon our arrival ... It was very quiet then. The villa, presented as very quiet, is actually in the air corridor of Heraklion, with aircraft passes at very low altitude (150 to 250 m) just above the house. The notion of calm flies up in smoke instantly ... Goodbye good naps and relaxing nights ☹ The owner did not respond to our request to cancel our second week on the VRBO website. His answer was: "you will see that you will get used to the sound of planes ...". So we had to stay and lock ourselves in this house with shutters and windows permanently closed for 15 days and nights. Not top during the month of July ... During a shower & beard shaving & drying, I counted up to 5 plane passes: record to beat ... The shadow of the planes passes squarely on the house. We had to rent a car urgently to escape the day to avoid this ceaseless noise. In short for calm and serenity, you must forget. This explains my very negative note ... The surroundings are not interesting or beautiful: next to the former US military base disused, with remains of shabby barracks and squatted by homeless . A shallow sandy beach is accessible to children, right next to a small port without charm: watch the boats pass by the swimmers. Other than that, nice house, with 3 air-conditioned bedrooms with double beds, and a sofa in the living room / kitchen, that is 8 people. The layout is clean but average, not very practical. No luxury or the hot tub announced in the beginning despite the announcement that has been changed since my remark to the owner! The shower room on the first floor is badly lacking storage space to put its things. BBQ without accessories like tongs. Pity! Small garden on the front of the house and parking space provided but without table to eat. kitchen: dishwasher and huge fridge private terrace upstairs with sea views but it's complicated to eat there because far from the kitchen. Many problems of connection to the unstable wifi at startup / exit of standby. In summary I do not recommend unless you like planes ... you can find better and much quieter elsewhere.

I would not like to comment on your unacceptable behavior both to me and my family. as far as I was concerned, I was best treated as all my guests. Perfect place to Relax
EVA & Her husband were really nice & went out of their way to show us around & even took us to the store. Eva was so kind with the food she made & it was soooooo good. The house is big & perfect for any group or family. We Loved it.

Un grand merci à Éva, Georges et à leur adorable fille Natasha! Nous avons été très chaleureusement reçus et comblés de cadeaux dès notre arrivée.(vins, gâteau fait maison, petits sandwichs, etc...) La maison est spacieuse et impeccablement tenue. Située en dehors du tourisme de masse, tout près d’une petite plage fréquentée par les autochtones (ce qui nous a beaucoup plu). Georges nous a, dès le premier jour, montré où s’approvisionner et indiqué les meilleures tavernes des alentours. Que dire d’autre qu’un immense MERCI à ces hôtes d’exception. Françoise

Wunderbarer Ort zum entspannen. Wenig Tourismus. Strand vor der Türe.
Mein Kollege und ich waren für 10 Tage in Eva s Villa. Wir wurden so freundlich und herzlich empfangen von der ganzen Familie. Georgius hat mit uns sogar eine Rundfahrt gemacht um uns kurz alles zu zeigen. Restaurant, Einkauf, und weitere wichtige Infos. Das Haus ist riesig und hat einen tollen Garten, wir jedoch haben uns immer im oberen Balkon aufgehalten. Es gibt nichts schlechtes zu sagen. Die Flieger die vorallem Abends über uns hinwegflogen haben uns nicht gestört. Wir haben uns immer sicher und wie zu Hause gefühlt. Die Griechen sind sehr freundliche Menschen. Aufjedenfall empfehle ich diesen Aufenthaltsort für jeden auch mit Kindern.. My college and myself were 10 days gest at eva s villa. We had a great time there. They received us so friendly. Georg showed us by car where to eat and where to by food etc. What a friendly family. We like the place because its quiet even if its next the airport ( what is also a privileg) We hardly heard the planes flying buy. Or you get used to it.. Its a place without turism, its quiet and tipical greek. Its a place for family aswell.the garden is beautiful and also the balcony upstairs has a great few.i often felt like home.thank very much Gergius, Eva and Natasha☺️🤗😉

Ruim huis op rustige plek met fantastische host!
Villa is gelegen op heel rustige plek, vlakbij het strand. Hele mooie uitgangsplaats voor het bezoeken van bezienswaardigheden. Hele ruime, schone villa. Eva houdt van koken en bied je regelmatig griekse koffie en kretenzische lekkernijen aan. Heerlijk zitten op het balkon!

From the first minute we arrived at Villa Eva, we were amazed at both our surroundings and our hosts. The Villa is magnificent and the spectacular proximity to both the beach and the major road routes, made everything we wanted to do simple and everything else possible. Go to Crete. Rent this Villa. Schönes Haus in nicht ganz ruhiger Lage
Das Haus war für uns (4 Erwachsene, 3 kleine Kinder) in seiner Abmessung ideal. Es sind 300 Meter zum Strand- der insbesondere für kleine Kinder gut geeignet ist. Die Vermieter sind- wie an anderer Stelle schon erwähnt- sehr nett. Das Umfeld ist- durch die Lager in der Einflugschneise des erstaunlich geschäftigen Flughafens von Heraklion- und einige Ruinen und aufgelassenes Armeegelände- allerdings nicht als idyllisch zu bezeichnen.

Günstiger Standort für Leute mit kleinen Kindern
Wir waren mit 4 Erwachsenen und drei Kindern (3,5,8) für zwei Wochen in der Villa Eva. Das Haus ist groß und bietet durch Terrasse und Patio im Obergeschoss auch die Gelegenheit, dass nicht immer alle gleichzeitig am gleichen Fleck sein müssen. Die Lage auf der Insel ist günstig, weil die Anfahrtswege zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten überschaubar ist (um die Ecke das Aquarium, sehenswert - 1h30 Matala/Palmenstrand - 15min Knossos/Heraklion - 60min Agios Nikolaos / Spinalonga - 1h10 Tropfsteinhöhle Sfentoni/Anogia - 1h40 Rethymno). Allerdings muss man mit der Einflugschneise zum Flughafen Heraklion klar kommen. Von den Vermietern wurden wir sehr herzlich empfangen und unterstützt mit guten Tipps bezüglich der Ausflüge und beim Auffinden von Supermarkt und Tavernen. Außergewöhnlich war aber auch dass Frau Papadimitriou uns immer mal wieder mit köstlichen typisch griechischen Gerichten überrascht hat. So was haben wir noch nie erlebt. Der Strand ist schmal, aber reichte aus, da außer am Wochenende wenig Betrieb ist. Für uns war besonders günstig, dass das Meer flach abfällt, sodass die Kinder stundenlang im Wasser toben konnten. Nicht ganz so idyllisch wirken die nicht mehr genutzten Einrichtungen der US-Armee, aber das empfanden wir nur bei der Ankunft als sehr störend.

The property was absolutely ideal for us, very clean and everything we needed was provided and more!
Villa Eva was lovely, wish we could have stayed longer. Very close to the beach and nice 15 -20 minute walk to shops, restaurant's and bars. The hosts, Eva, George and Natasha were more than helpful, providing us with gorgeous home made food and drink! (which we weren't expecting) taking us to the supermarket and even to the airport for our journey home, could not have asked for nicer hosts 🙂. Everything about our stay was wonderful and we would not hesitate to recommend to others, in fact some of my work colleagues are actually looking at booking next year! Thank you Eva, George and Natasha for being you 😊 Will definitely be back. Mike says, lovely, lovely, lovely 100% relaxation.

Très belle villa et accueil exceptionnel
C'est un peu par hasard que nous avons choisi cette villa mais nous ne l'avons pas du tout regretté. La villa est très spacieuse, neuve et très bien équipée. Elle est idéalement placée. En voiture il faut entre 10 et 15 min pour aller à Héraklion et cette position centrale permet de visiter facilement une majorité d'endroits (nous sommes allés à Agios Nikolaos, Réthymnon et Matala au plus loin). De plus elle se trouve juste à côté de la mer et surtout elle est à 200 m de l'aquarium CretAquarium ce qui permet de trouver facilement la maison (surtout les premiers jours quand on n'est pas habitué au chemin) car il est très bien indiqué. Mais le meilleur reste l'accueil des propriétaires qui sont juste à côté. Ils sont vraiment très accueillants et toujours prêts à vous conseiller. Nous avons eu droit à de nombreux cadeaux (vins,...) avec surtout une merveilleuse moussaka maison.

Beautiful and comfortable house and wonderful people!
The house is comfortable, very clean, well equipped and in a quiet position. Supermarkets are not far as well as some tavernas and other sort of shops. The sea is close to the house and it is not far from the National Road. It is also in a good position for whom, as we did, who would like to visit the island. The special "added value" are Eva, Natasha (Eva's daughter) and the rest of the family, the best hosts I have ever found, they were very kind and ... they spoilt us with delicious cakes. The house is exactly what I expected seeing the photos and the owners are super!

Gemütliches Haus in Strandnähe
Villa Eva ist ein nettes sauberes und gut ausgestattetes Domizil nur wenige Schritte vom naturbelassenen Sandstrand entfernt. Abgesehen von den nach Heraklion einfliegenden Flugzeugen ein sehr ruhiger Ort. Ein kleiner Supermarkt, ein Autovermieter, einige Tavernen und Restaurants sind leicht zu Fuß erreichbar. Den flach abfallenden feinsandigen Strand(ideal für Kinder)muss man an Wochentagen nur mit wenigen Badenden(vorwiegend Einheimischen) teilen. Liegen und Sonnenschirm sind im Haus vorhanden. Die sympathischen Besitzer wohnen im Nachbarhaus, sind sehr um ihre Gäste bemüht und Vermieterin Eva überraschte mit ihren Kochkünsten. Siegrid, Österreich

Maison très agréable
Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour chez Eva. La maison est impeccable, très confortable avec internet ,l'air conditionné et à deux pas d'une plage de sable fréquentée par les familles grecques, ce que nous avons apprécié. Eva est une excellente cuisinière, qui nous a offert de nombreux plats locaux cuisinés par elle (moussaka,légumes farcis, gâteaux. ..). Sa famille est très chaleureuse et nous a donné des bon conseils . Une voiture est utile. Héraklion est a 25 minutes maximum. A Qui veut connaître un peu les gens du pays, se détendre et se baigner souvent nous recommandons chaleureusement cette maison. Jacques et Maria (Paris )
