mysigt hotell i centrala Newcastle
Ganska mysigt hotell nära floden med trevlig personal. Rummet var bekvämt samt rent och badrummet var oxå bekvämt.

Good Spot if you don't mind ear-plugs
The staff at the hotel allowed me to store my ruck-sack until my room was ready. The bed was comfortable, the bath/shower had endless hot water. On the downside, the windows are thin and starting at about 4 a.m. I heard everything going on outside including some sort of delivery (maybe food or laundry), and cars starting to arrive in the parking garage across the parking lot. The hotel provides ear-plugs, which helps. I came to watch a Newcastle match and found the 15-minute walk to the stadium to be very easy. As for things to see, I don't believe there's anything that's over 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Additionally, the lift does not work.

Great location, just needs a good refurbishment
Slap bang in the city centre, excellent for amenities and bars, restaraunts etc - But just an old tired hotel, needs a complete refurbishment that would cost gazillions, so a chain needs to take it over- Staff were nice and room was clean but just run down.

Lovely Little Hotel.
Lovely clean room and clean, comfy beds, nice and quiet although noisy outside, but I wear earplugs so not a problem.Great that breakfast is served until 10am, lovely selection of cold items, cooked breakfast made to order with “real” bacon by a lovely lady. One minor complaint about the shower tray being a bit tatty around the edges but other than that we had a lovely overnight stay and would definitely stay again.

Not the most encouraging entrance to hotel - area is pretty grubby - but on exploring you are really well located to wander a lovely area of the city along the river etc.

I thought on first impression it looked rather dated and sad. Our room hadn't been cleaned or hoovered. Our bathroom had a dirty toilet and the shower dripped all night. This was a room given to us as ours was not ready at the time......... The room was a the side of the building so we heard most of the travelling night life and party goers

Great stay as always
This is the 2nd time I've stayed here and it's been comfortable and clean both times I've visited. It's convenient for the city centre, train station and National Express coach station. I'd happily stay here again.

You get what you pay for
The Surtees hotel is cheap considering its in the centre of Newcastle. Why? Because its wedged between a railway line, an overpass, and a multi storey car park. It's on one of the busiest noisiest streets for nightlife, above a gentleman's club, and next to the cathedral whose bells toll loudly hourly. The entrance is at the back of the building behind the bins and poorly lit. There's no working lift, and it's fixtures and fittings are slightly scruffy at the edges. Having said all that, the young man who greeted me on reception was friendly and professional. The room I had on the top floor was huge, reasonably decorated, and very well equipped - more so than many more expensive hotels. And ear plugs are provided. It's also very convenient for the city centre - and some great bars and restaurants!

Leider überhaupt nicht wie laut Bildern erwartet. Schmutziges, muffiges Zimmer, Blick auf Parkhaus, laute Klimaanlagen an Hauswand, Fahrstuhl defekt, abgewohnt, teilweise nicjt funktionierende Fenster, unbequeme Betten. Nur für 1 Nacht, guter Ausgangspunkt für Unternehmungen von der Lage her

'Boutique' budget hotel.
Better than expected for a budget hotel. Room better than first impression of dingy,worn reception. Room would b improved by boil curtains due to awful outlook. Thoughtful addition of ironing board, iron & fan. Excellent breakfast.

Can't complain for the money. It is in a good location for the bars and nightlife, the buffet breakfast was decent and the hotel is upfront about certain rooms being subject to noise due to its location and single glazing. There was no noise from within the hotel and the staff where great. On a hot day, which is rare for Newcastle, it can be a little uncomfortable as no air con and opening the window can be very loud around the weekend, but if your just after a good location to get your head down then great. Parking worked cheap Sat to Sun and its next door.

O.K if your not spending much time in the hotel
Great location, which is probably why they charge so much for a room! Car parking opposite hotel and a short walk from a variety of things Newcastle has to offer. The room was basic, bed not overly comfortable and bathroom was dated. Because of its location you can hear a lot of noise during the night but if your looking for somewhere to sleep after a night out yourself and not a lot of time actually in the hotel then this place is for you. I did not have the breakfast so cant reflect on that, the staff were friendly and quick check in / out. Would stay again

Good value, excellent location.
I booked a single room but was pleased to find myself in a spacious double with a large bathroom. The room was very clean and I found the firm bed very comfortable. My room overlooked Dean Street so was very noisy late at night but I was expecting this, and the booking confirmation made it clear that guests should request a back facing room if noise is an issue. The staff at check in and check out were friendly and happy to help (e.g. providing change for car parking etc.) I stayed one night and only really needed somewhere to sleep but was pleased it exceeded my expectation for the price and I would recommend to others with similar needs.

DONT LEAVE YOUR KEY WITH RECEPTION
Hotel lift is broken. We were on the top floor. Rooms were okay, in need of some TLC. The staff were nice however they told us that they recommend that we leave our key behind reception when leaving the building at night to make sure it’s not lost on a night out. This was fine with us until we returned on the 2nd night of our weekend stay and the receptionist was no where to be found. We waited for 15 minutes at 12 at night and there was still no staff. A hotel guest told us he would be 20 minutes which made us annoyed because we couldn’t get into our room. That was 7ntil we realised that the door to the reception was unlocked so we were able to get our key ourselves. This is also what made me furious as anyone could have just walked in and opened the door to find keys for the whole hotel!! This is ridiculous and so unsafe! The hotel rooms were abit shabby, our curtains were torn. Blinds were stuck and the lighting was dim. The shower was pathetic and the beds were lumpy with burst springs.

Wouldn’t Stay Again
We were giving rooms on the second floor. The hotel had signs pointing to lifts but there weren’t any. There was no indication of this on the website or anywhere. With the hotel being on a slight hill then having to climbs flights of stairs it made the stay extremely uncomfortable. The hotel was not modern the bathroom needs updating. The rooms should have been cleaner. One of the rooms we booked had loads of hair everywhere.

Dear Guest, Firstly we do not advertise as having a lift on the booking site you used, we also sent you an email prior to arrival stating this. Our lift is listed and can not be repaired or replaced. I know .... Crazy, but I don't make the listed building regulations only follow them, which is why we don't advertise as having one. The hotel from hell
I have stayed in many hotels in my life in lots of countries. This was by far the worse experience of my life. uncomfortable room, freezing room, rude staff, especially the manager If you want to experience the worse place to stay and a waste of money book in for a night. Two nights would be too much for anyone.!!! They even had the cheek for charging me for a extra night for being late by one hour in court. We explained that the room was cold, the answer was we will give you a extra blanket. Sorry Expedia, you do not want to have these in your preferred list

Dear Mr Guest Thank you for your review To clarify a few points, our check out is at 11am you came to check out at 2.45pm, thats almost 4 hours late for check out not 1 hour. The morning of your departure during really bad snow you asked our receptionist to phone you a taxi, then after waiting no more than 10 minutes decided it was appropriate to scream in her face as it had not turned up straight away. You found it appropriate to shout about how much you hated the city and my staff at full volume in our reception area in front of other guests and outside contractors we had at the hotel. Then when you turned up almost 4 hours late for check out and were told you would have to pay for an extra night screamed at me that you wanted a different room, I explained that we were fully booked and you found it appropriate to then swear in my face. I'm sorry you found me rude when i pulled you up on your appalling behaviour to which your excuse was its ok to do it down south. God help any Receptionists or service members of staff down south if they have to put up with a grown man screaming in their face and swearing at them, but at this hotel we do expect guests to treat the staff with manners and not to be verbally aggressive. 2 lights didn't work, door handle was off, kettle was dirty, no mattress protector only a thin sheet. Turn out we had been put into an out of order room even though we paid extra for a deluxe room. Didn't have time to query it at the time as we were rushing straight out.

Great Hotel
Perfect for my stay in Newcastle! Glad that I booked this hotel, the bed was small but so comfy. The staff were friendly and the room was lovely and clean. Absolutely no problems!

Staff were lovely, room - tired and uncomfortable
The staff were lovely and very welcoming on our arrival. We were situated on the 3rd floor and unfortunately the lift was broken - a bit annoying when the key didn't then work so we had to head back to reception. The room on first impression was a little tired but it was clean with plenty of towels, tea and coffee facilities, iron, hair dryer and lovely toiletries. However trying to sleep was a different matter. The bed was made up of two single beds however the duvet was not big enough to cover the whole bed and meant by other half ended up sleeping on the crease in the middle. Overall,I probably would stay here again for the price as it was a bargain for the facilities and location.
