Noisy, dated, unprofessionally managed
We booked this hotel on the belief and trust that it was genuinely a 4* 'boutique' hotel. Sadly the reality of this property and it's management is far below even average expectation, it belongs deeply in the 'Faulty Towers' category, without the comedy.
Following a long day of travel from Sweden to the UK, we arrived at the hotel by private car. It was approximately 10pm and a quiet residential area situated approximately 10 minutes walk from the center of sleepy Guildford. There was nowhere to park, the hotel car-park was full.
Upon entering reception we were confronted by loud thumping Indian-themed music and random drunks wandering around the lower floor, I invited the manager to the room to listen for himself, he declined demonstrating that he was clearly aware that the room was not fit for purpose.
The room was dark and basic, the ceilings creaked with every movement from above and the basics expected from a 4* hotel were simply not present. The coffee/tea cups were mismatched, the toilet featured a grim and unhygienic plastic shower curtain and we found it rather ironic that the TV volume was limited, meaning that we could not turn up the volume sufficiently to overcome the noise from the event room next-door.
The music stopped at 1am, we complained and were told that we would not be provided with a refund. The Managing Director claimed that it was our responsibility to find a quiet hotel when locating somewhere to stay, and blamed us choosing the Mandolay Hotel.
