Finding a reasonably priced hotel in Accra, Ghana is a hard thing to do, especially when you are a family of 4. So, not knowing anything about the city, we were happy to pay about one hundred dollars a night per room. I do want to point out that the staff tried their best to be accommodating and EXTREMELY pleasant the entire time. That said, it is definitely not a 4 star hotel for the following reasons:
1) It is at least a 45 minute ride to the hotel from Accra's city center. And then 45 minutes back. While this might not seem like much, it cuts out almost 2 hours out of your day -- and if you want to go anywhere to eat, usually that will be in city center. Count on at least 2 - 4 hours in a taxi per day.
2) The accommodations are basic. There is a decent bathroom. The king-sized bed was the HARDEST mattress I have ever slept on. The pillows also were very hard. There were no chests or drawers to place clothes -- only a closet with no hangers. So we used our suitcases. The bath mat probably had not been washed in a while.
3) The building itself was ok clean. Not uber clean, but functionally clean. There were multiple holes cut into the ceiling of the hallways for what I assume were for repairs, but it left an impression of lack of repair.
4) The pool was never cleaned. Chemicals were thrown in, but never cleaned.
5) The food was very basic. Basic rice, basic chicken. And service was SLOW.
In the end, come for the price, not for the hotel
