The hotel feels a bit old and worn out, although the staff at the reception are very friendly and helpful. The location is about a 30-minute drive from Catania city center, and without a car you are quite limited, since most restaurants are in the center. The breakfast staff are also very nice, though the male breakfast host clearly has his favorites—he runs over immediately to seat them and serve coffee, while we had to wait around five minutes just to get a table or order an espresso.
The food in the main restaurant is not very good, and the prices are extremely high compared to what you can get in Catania, where the food is excellent and costs about half the price. Other guests even warned us, and we later learned that the hotel changed its chef last year and significantly raised prices.
We have traveled extensively in Asia, the US, and the Caribbean, usually staying at high-standard hotels, and I have never before been asked to pay extra for sunbeds and umbrellas. At this hotel, however, guests are charged €30 per day if they want to sit by the sea. The sunbeds by the pool are free, but the area is overcrowded.
Overall, I would rate this as a 3-star hotel rather than the advertised 4.5 stars.
