  • Welcome to Fantail Cottage - previously known as Rowan and Bengairn Cottages! Nestled in amongst native New Zealand bush, this cottage is host to fantastic views of the Akaroa Harbour and scenery.

    With the trees surrounding the cottage, you'll enjoy the privacy privacy this home offers, allowing you to really escape. Wake up and wander out onto the balcony to take in the fresh South Island air.

    Enjoy the cosy, laid-back holiday living setup of this studio-style cottage, fitted with all the essentials you might need on your trip. Bedroom one has a kitchenette and lounge area with fireplace, with an ensuite. And bedroom two also has a lounge area with fireplace and ensuite.

    In winter get comfy in front of the fire, put your feet up and unwind. The kitchenette has all you need to prepare quick, easy meals, or choose to head into Akaroa village to sample some of the great cafes and culinary venues.

    Or perhaps take a scenic cruise around Akaroa Harbour, host to amazing sea mammals and birdlife, including the world's smallest and rarest dolphins, the Hector's Dolphin, New Zealand fur seals and white-flippered penguins. Everything you need for a romantic escape awaits at Fantail Cottage!

Excellent Property

Lovely location and the access to Childrens Bay, Akaroa and the local walks. Beautiful spot and hopefully we will be back again.

Beautiful location but disappointing stay

Outside windows were stained and covered with cobwebs, gatden needs some trimming so you can enjoy the view. No wifi network at all. Cobwebs and spiders all through the inside and very dusty. Sticky surfaces. This place really needed a good clean. Location was beautiful and only took a small walk to get into town. We had booked for two nights but only atayed one. Definitely wish we had booked somewhere else.

I was very disappointed with this accommodation. The driveway was scary, the exterior had lots of moss on the bricks and tatty weeds on the driveway and paths, and it looked very tired. Inside, the exterior doors had significant cobwebs on the hinge parts of the frames. One of the televisions didn't work, one of the heaters didn't work, one of the fridges was set at freezer temp and froze my milk, eggs, lettuce, hummus solid. The lounge kitchen drawer was filthy, the west bathroom door's hook was broken, the view out of the lounge window had dead flax flowers and rust streaks.On a positive note, I loved discovering a Nespresso machine because I love coffee. Thanks for that. But I would not use this for any future stays in Akaroa. I truly expected better and was extremely disappointed.
