The area:
Albert Lea is a pretty quiet town and my stay at AmericInn was no different. There isn't much to do in Albert Lea, especially before 11am. Most shops are closed on Sundays and with many businesses shut down or moved out that doesn't leave much to do on weekends besides walking. The nearby mall is like stepping into a time machine, somewhere between 1985 to 1994. It's a bittersweet feeling walking through this mall. The empty gated off shops with old arcade rides, games, and outdated building interior, and even the smell reminded me of my childhood in the 90's. Believe me, if you go there you'll understand. It was actually pretty comforting. We visited during a very windy weekend so we stayed at the motel most of the time aside from driving around the historic downtown area. The lake trails and state park would have been nice but unfortunately the heavy 30mph winds and rain would not have allowed us.
The Motel:
At the hotel there was a birthday party with a big family in the pool area but very friendly. They even gave us a whole pizza. The staff were very friendly on all shifts especially the general manager. The pool and spa area is very spacious and great for families. The breakfast/lobby area is very clean. My only complaint is that I would have like to had a more thick blanket or comforter as the standard one is quite thin. Maybe this is an AmericInn thing but overall the stay was very nice if you're looking for solitude away from the big cities.
