Our family of four had a nice time overall. The house has some pros and some cons. We’ve been to dozens of home rentals by now, and we’ll try to provide thorough feedback.
Pros of this house: the location is amazing - a short walk to one of our favorite beaches in Maine. It's also an easy drive into Kennebunkport. The plot of land the house is located on is lovely, and there are nice views from the dining area and deck. The home is fairly well equipped with most things you need in the kitchen and laundry. We especially appreciated that the owners provided a beach wagon and beach chairs, making our trips to the beach much easier. (No beach umbrella).
Here are some of the cons: The furniture in the family room was not very comfortable for our family of 4 to hang out - it includes an old couch and two chairs that are not comfortable for lounging around in. We were supposed to have my parents in law with us, and the family is definitely too small for six people to hang out on a rainy day. The TV does not have cable, and you have to connect to stream from your mobile device. The bathrooms are quite old and outdated. The master bedroom bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The owners offer a pillow-top for an additional price, which personally didn’t make us feel like our comfort was their priority. (If you can make our stay more comfortable why not offer to make it so).
Also, we weren't aware that we had to bring our own bedsheets until about a week before arriving (a first for us with any vacation rental) - we don't have a king size bed, and had to purchase sheets before coming (we opted not to rent them which was suggested as an option by our hosts). This seems like a small detail, but it would be nice not to have to bring our own sheets from 400 miles away.
Overall the house is nice and perfectly located. With some minor upgrades to make it more comfortable, it can become a great rental.
