Robert, Thank you for your kind review. At Abacus, we pride ourselves on our high standard of cleanliness, the generous breakfast and the friendliness of the staff, so thank you for noticing. I agree, the bathrooms are small, however, there is no option to review this. Since opening, 22 years ago, we have given this a lot of thought but without knocking down the whole property and rebuilding, unfortunately, there is no way that the bathrooms can be enlarged.Although Abacus is in a quiet, rural, wooded cul de sac, ideal for those wishing to escape the urban noise and bustle one would expect poor reception, however, we have never previously had complaints. Is it possible that your device needs updating?

Thank you for your review and positive comments. I am sorry that not all was to your liking. I have checked our records and you were sent only one set of entry instructions the day before arrival, as promised on booking. As we have only one single room, which you booked, it would have been impossible to modify. Never before (in 21 years) has anyone mentioned a dangerous ceiling nor a shortage of fire exits, there being a front door, at the front of the house and a back door (with key) in the kitchen at the back of the house.

Hi Manzil, Thanks for your review. Glad you find Abacus clean. We find some people love the rural location and some people hate it. Abacus is secluded and ideal for guests who enjoy quiet, walking and cycling but not for townies who prefer shops and pubs.

I find it strange that you have given us such a poor review having requested to stay with us again! May I suggest that your real grievance is that as you were unable or unwilling to provide card details to secure your booking, we became fully booked and hence we were unable to accommodate you? You could have given us details during our phone calls or securely online, although some guests prefer SMS or email. You are correct. We noted it was cold in your room and our housekeeping staff believed this to be your choice. For guests’ comfort, all our rooms have adjustable radiator thermostats; the one in your room was turned to zero throughout your stay. Had you mentioned your discomfort to a member of staff, your mismanagement of the heating controls could have been corrected. We have a large, fully equipped kitchen where guests may prepare and cook themselves an evening meal. As the majority of our guests take advantage of this, there will naturally be cooking smells in the kitchen area. It is clearly stated on the booking website, the confirmation email and our pre-stay email that only a self serve continental breakfast is provided. However, guests are welcome to cook themselves a breakfast in the kitchen, as some guests do. If you wanted a B&B serving hot food, why would you book with us?

We are disappointed that you have given us a poor review score for things that are clearly stated on booking. It is made apparent on booking that we do not provide a cooked breakfast and that our four shower rooms/toilets are shared.
