Very nice place to stay at in Tuscany
A wonderful place to stay at. A real tuscany dream and the hosts Monica and Giovanni made us feel really comfortable and welcome. To recommend: a dinner when Monica cooks for you. The best meal during our stay. Lovely.

Beautiful, welcoming and lovely place
I really want to recommend a stay at Villa Lean where Monica and Giovanni have created a beautiful, welcoming and lovely place. The view of the valley of Lucca and the surrounding mountains is stunning and you can enjoy this view from the bedrooms and the garden. In the garden there are a couple of beautiful places where you can relax and have your coffee or your aperitivo looking out over the fantastic valley and the sunset. On the day of our arrival when my husband turned 60, we, our five grown up children and three of their partners were served the most delicious dinner. It was, to be honest, the best dinner we had during our Tuscany holiday. Monica is a brilliant chef and has her own production of excellent cheeses. Don't miss this opportunity of having dinner and buying cheese or beautiful wool crafts when you visit! On a rainy day we had a nice evening in the sauna, which is small but convenient. We took turns. When the sun shone we had a lovely day by the pool. The farmhouse is also close to the mountain villages, Lucca and lots of other interesting and beautiful places.

Absolutely wonderful!
We are so happy that we found Monicas lovely house. The pictures were nice on the website, but the reality was even better! We were 9 colleagues that had a mini conference in the house and the inspiration we got during our stay was priceless! We started it all with a dinner that Monica had prepared for us at our arrival and the food and wine was delicious. The best of all was the homemade tiramisu! The day after we went for an excursion with Giovanni and his friend, where we discovered small villages and the nice nature surroundings. An extra plus during our stay was all the animals around the house, the dogs, the goats and of course Bippo the tame wild boar! We wish we could come back already tomorrow, we will definitely come back! Thanks for a great stay Monica and Giovanni!

Incredible stay on this gorgeous Tuscan farm!
What a fantastic stay on this beautiful farm we had! There are sheep and goats on the property, and everything was clean and lovely! The views are spectacular and the houses are clean, charming and comfortable! We were 6 friends traveling together and all absolutely loved this gorgeous property and wonderful hosts. Definitely do not miss having Monica cook for you – it was one of our highlights for sure! She prepared the most delicious 4 course dinner made with fresh, local ingredients, her homemade cheeses, and wine from a friend's vineyard! We were only sad we hadn’t arranged for her to cook another meal for us. As other reviewers note, be aware that the internet is spotty (which actually allowed us to just disconnect more fully while there :-). Also be aware if you use heat, that you will be charged separately for that, and it is best if you have cash to pay the day you leave, and it is quite expensive. The place is even better than in the pictures and I would go back again (and again) in a heartbeat and stay even longer (and have Monica cook more meals)! Grazie, Monica and Giovanni!

Tuscany Farmhouse
More of a farmhouse than a Villa. Our host was lovely and a wonderful host; her cooking was excellent. But to be quite honest…it was rather disappointing and I think VrBO ‘over promised’ and falsely advertised. Again, the host was outstanding and a treat to ve with.

Magic in the hills overlooking Lucca
Monica is a marvelous host and busy! With her goat herd and cheese making duties how does she find the time to cook a fabulous dinner for us? Fresh ingredients from her garden and wine from her neighbor's vineyard. The view is magnificent though we are miles from town so stock up; before you land. You won't want to leave.

Beautiful location and comfortable old farmhouse
We enjoyed four wonderful days at this beautiful old Italian farmhouse. The rental property consists of two buildings one has one bedroom with its own bathroom, a small sitting area, and a kitchen.. the other building has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and also a Kitchen. Be forewarned, all of the bedrooms, except one are up fairly steep stairs, and can be a problem for older people or those with mobility problems. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious with comfortable beds, plenty of good linens, and an abundant supply of very good towels. Kitchens are well stocked with plenty of room to move around. The greatest feature of this property is its location. It is on a hillside in the hills above Lucca. The property looks down upon a vineyard just below and then into the valley of Luca in the distance. It is a spectacular piece of property. One more forewarning: we were there in relatively cold weather, and had to use the heating system. At checkout we were informed that we had to pay extra for the heating, and that the payment had to be in euros. I must admit that we had a bit of sticker shock, and had to do some scrambling to come up with the auto code. I’m out of euros. It would’ve been nice if this information had been provided to us at time of check-in. That inconvenience notwithstanding the entire experience was wonderful, and we would highly recommend this property for anyone visiting the Lucca area.

Beautiful villa
This 12th century villa is beautiful-rustic, stunning scenery, wonderful hosts, and even sheep n goats!! Monica is a wonderful cook and Giovanni’s mtn villages tour a definite highlight!! Cons: very intermittent n limited wifi, transportation is difficult espec at night due to location, and sauna that is advertised on web is not currently in use. Overall- highly recommend if dont mind remote location n lots of steps!

Villa in Tuscany
This villa was everything I wanted when I pictured a villa in Tuscany! Monica's hospitality is unmatched!! The food she prepared was the best we had on our whole trip, so it was well worth having her make a couple of dinners for the 8 of us. The view from the villa overlooking Lucca was unmatched! Beautiful and welcoming
This property is gorgeous with expansive and lovely views of the Tuscan hills. The hosts, Monica and Giovanni, were extremely warm and friendly and made great suggestions for unique and interesting outings. We enjoyed 2 meals cooked by Monica, which were superb! Giovanni took us on a fascinating tour of several medieval hidden villages in his LandRover. We hope to return soon!

Dream location
Villa Lean was the most breathtaking Villa to call home for two weeks. My family of nine were made to feel right at home. The accommodations were perfect and Monica was an amazing host. We had her make dinner our first night and it was the best meal - hands down - that we had in Italy. We can’t wait to go back!

Our entire family got together for a fabulous week in Villa Lean. We had a wonderful time, the children were delighted with the animals, an unforgettable experience on a farm for kids growing up in a big city. They were even allowed to participate in herding of the goats before the storm. The puppies were adorable and we miss them. But it was Monica who made our stay as special as possible, kind, always smiling and a truly fantastic chef. We dined on her tummy creations which were served in beautiful settings. Giovanni was also a great host, friendly, and smiling and always helpful. We will always remember this wonderful week, and hope to return one day! Thank you so much Monica! Agnes and the family 💕

Entspannter Toskana-Urlaub mit großartiger Aussicht und tollen Gastgebern
Wir waren 2 Familien mit insgesamt 4 Erwachsenen und 5 Kindern zwischen 10 und 16 Jahren. Das Objekt war dafür ausgezeichnet geeignet. Unsere Kinder liebten die 3 jungen Hunde sehr. Besonders gefallen hat allen, dass unsere Gastgeberin uns mehrfach bekocht hat, es war ausgezeichnet und sehr reichhaltig. Mona besorgt alle Lebensmittel regional und kocht mit dem, was bei ihr oder Freunden gerade erhältlich ist, unter anderem auch mit selbst hergestellten Produkten aus Milch (Ricotta/Käse...), Olivenöl, Eiern, Obst und Gemüse, Kräutern.. Nach Lucca sind es 20 min mit dem Auto, zum Strand knapp eine Stunde. Ein besonderes schönes Erlebnis war auch der Tagesausflug mit Giovanni zu 2 Bergdörfern mit Lunch und Baden im Fluss mit Klippensprung. Da es sehr heiß war, war auch der Pool häufig frequentiert. Der fantastische Blick ins Tal, verbunden mit Abgeschiedenheit und Ruhe wird uns lange in Erinnerung bleiben.

Above and Beyond expectations !
So much to say about our stay at Villa Lean. It was a dream come true to spend a week with Monica and Giovanni and the wonderful authentic spirit that is their way of being. The Villa itself is like something of the old way of family living, rustic and charming in every way . Monica is a wonderful cook and though she was suffering from the extreme heat she still cooked 2 amazing meals for our family of 10 including 4 hungry boys 17-20 and arranged a table for us at lovely nearby restaurant one evening . The pool was a godsend and well used in the heat. 3 rambunctious adorable puppies provided much entertainment with their antics! The highlight (for all but 3 of us who went to bike the Lucca Wall) was the mountain village excursion that Giovanni guided in his Land Rover one day - it was adventurous and amazing according to the participants !!! We would be remiss if we did not mention Monica’s fabulous goat cheeses! They became a daily staple beyond what we were treated to at dinners. All in all so many memories were made and all of us will remember our time there for many years to come. Thank you Monica and Giovanni - Ciao 💕

Graduation Celebration Vacation
We had an amazing experience at the Villa. The property is rustic and authentic with amazing views and a great pool with cool water. Monica and Giovanni are excellent hosts and were very accommodating to our needs and with recommendations for the area. Monica prepared a wonderful dinner for us one night accompanied with her freshly prepared cheeses and other ingredients from her farm. It was amazing! There were 3 new puppies at the villa that greeted my daughter each morning and that ended up being a highlight for her. She wanted to take them home. We highly recommend this property and hope to return one day.

The view is worth it
We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed over New Years in 2022-23. The home is a restored farmhouse, very quite and clean. We were warm enough with the heating system, and even sat outside in the evenings for supper. The hosts live next door, and were available for any problems that came up. I highly recommend this place.

The property is beautiful in the hills of Tuscany.
A beauiful view of the valley. All appliances worked well. The outdoor wood-burning oven was great for an evening of home-made pizzas. Downside is no internet in the house. We were told it worked when outdoors - but as our trip was in the winter - outside on the internet wasn't our desire. Monica's cooking and Giovanni's helpful assistance in getting us what we needed made this an unforgettable experience. We'll be back....

Tuscan reality
Stayed in an a stone Tuscan Villa, in the foothills of Lucca, that looks and seemed like a movie. We had an amazing trip and Monica and Giovanni are the salt of the earth. A lovely villa
We had a wonderful time at Monica's place. The view was amazing, the villa charming and having animals on property was fun. Monica cooked for us two nights and the food was delicious and hearty. It was great to have a meal right in our own place. We also took the Medieval Mountain Village tour by Giovanni - it was spectacular and we saw places that we would have never seen on our own. Wonderful Vacation Villa
Located about a half hour from Lucca in the mountains of Valgiano with truly stunning views overlooking the valley below. 13th C Villa was perfect for our family of seven which included two primary school aged children who were enchanted by the lovely dogs Minnie and Olga, the farm’s sheep, goats, chickens and Rosina, the cow whose bell you can sometimes hear at night as she wanders the fields. The hosts live in a private attached section of the Villa but afford their guests great privacy and only there if you need them but helpful and attentive if you do. Despite traveling at the very end of Sept., we were able to swim in the pool every day. Bracing! Internet on the lovely outdoor terraces area only or in the attached annex which had a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath for our use. This gave us an opportunity to unwind and unplug, read, relax and enjoy being together. This is a very beautiful property with history, flowering gardens, spectacular setting, comfortable bedrooms and we loved our time there. Would be happy to go back anytime.

Breathtaking historical home
We were a group of 10 adults and we absolutely loved our 5 days stay at Villa Lean. Monica is a wonderful host and she cooked our first night meal which featured all local ingredients, including her homemade goat cheeses. The bedrooms are all charming, clean and in keeping with the Italian experience. We enjoyed seeing amazing countryside villages during an all day tour hosted by Giovanni which included an agri-tourism lunch, cold swim and lots of folklore. The view from the villa is spectacular. We highly recommend Villa Lean and thank Monica and Giovanni for their welcoming hospitality. We will be back. Adventurous Canadians

Authentic, rustic and picturesque
From the moment we met Monica we felt her warmth and her welcome. Nothing was any trouble for her. We arranged for Monica to cook for us on our first night and on our last. She is an excellent cook and sources most of her produce from her farm or from others locally. Her creamy goat cheese is sublime!! We were a family of 3 generations from Australia and UK. The in-laws (UK) found it all a little too rustic at first but by day 3 they really relaxed into it and by the end of our stay they didn’t want to leave!! The pool area is fabulous. There was plenty of room on the property for us to spread out. A well equiped kitchen and plenty of outdoor seating areas with magnificent views from all angles. There are beautiful scenic hikes for the more energetic (4.5km climbing 600m to the top) where there are waterfalls, wild boar and and different flora. Monica is a true animal lover. Her eyes light up when she talks about her goats, sheep, chickens and dogs. One sweet dog, Olga, stole our hearts. Just watch out for the chicken that thinks she’s human! She will try and follow you inside. Only small downside was poor wifi but otherwise no complaints. Thank you Monica and Giovani. You are lovely hosts and we hope to visit again one day.

Great stay - the best meals
This property is the perfect place to relax with stunning views and a beautiful country home. The highlight for sure were the meals Monica prepared for us, they were the best meals we had in two weeks in Italy made with only the freshest ingredients. Our FABULOUS stay at Villa Lean
I cannot begin to tell you how much fun we had during our 2 week stay at Villa Lean. It was everything we thought it would be and more. Monica is the perfect host and made us feel so welcome. The heat was pretty unbearable so she supplied us with more fans. The pool was a great relief which we used daily. We had Monica cook 4 meals for us while we were there and all were wonderful. It was one of our granddaughter’s birthday the day we arrived and she asked if she could do the cake. Simply beautiful! There were 10 people in our group and we are all animal lovers. Polly, the hen, will always have a special place in our hearts, along with the dogs, Olga and Meenie. Giovanni was a wealth of knowledge. Unfortunately, it was too hot for us to hike with him but we will look forward to that the next time we visit. We have so many wonderful memories thanks to Monica and Giovanni. Very nice farm stay
The rustic farm house is high on a hill over Lucca with a great view of the valley. The bedding was very comfortable. Monica is a terrific host and great cook. It was unusually hot while we were there but there was a breeze and things cooled off in the evenings. We all spent a lot of time in the pool due to the unusually warm June. There are several excellent and reasonable restaurants nearby.

Amazing vacation experience!
This property was beautiful!!! And Monica was AMAZING! She helped us with everything, including making dinner reservations when we were not able to communicate terribly well in Italian over the phone. Monica was warm and just always made us feel welcome and like the most important thing was giving us a wonderful vacation experience. We loved having all the animals around us. It just made the experience more fun. Monica is the best cook we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing!! Truly a marvel! Giovanni took us on the most beautiful and fun hike in the mountains and to a lunch place in a mountain village that was fantastic! We would never have been able to have those experiences without a local person with knowledge and connections. He knew EVERYBODY! And they all seemed to love him, which makes total sense because he is every bit as warm and helpful as Monica. If you are considering visiting Tuscany, I would recommend this Villa without hesitation and I hope to return some day!

Expected more high end luxury and found very basic accommodation but the host did make for this somewhat by her friendliness and excellent dinner

Gorgeous and beautifully renovated farmhouse on the hills above Lucca
The property was the perfect location for my family which convened from all over the world for the Christmas holidays. Monica’s sister beautifully decorated the house for us so it felt very festive. We walked on the trails above the farmhouse and played games by the fire ( the house was a super cozy place to hang out on the rainy days. It was a great location from which to explore the region. Highly recommend Monica’s dinners.

Home away from Home
We enjoyed every minute of our 5 night stay at Villa Lean! It was a perfect location for getting around Tuscany and The views were breathtaking! Monica was a wonderful host and cooked magnificent dinners for us while we were there. Make sure to ask her about the jeep tours and property tours- we were sad to miss out on these. I look forward to going back to this magical place!

Tolles Ferienhaus in der Maremma
Wir haben mit 9 Personen (7 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder) 2 Wochen bei Monica verbracht. Der Platz war dafür mehr als ausreichend. Das Haus ist toll und mit allem ausgestattet was man braucht. Überall laufen ganz liebe Tiere rum die sich mit Kindern super verstehen (2 Hunde, 2 Katzen und ein Huhn).Monica ist als Vermieterin sehr nett. Sie und ihr Partner wohnen auch in dem Haus (separater Eingang). Uns hat das überhaupt nicht gestört aber wer mehr Wert legt auf komplette Privatsphäre ist hier vielleicht falsch. Monica produziert super Käse und ist eine fantastische Köchin. Einzig der Poolbreich könnte noch etwas mehr Liebe vertragen. Wir können uns sehr gut vorstellen wieder zu kommen. Vielen Dank für die Zeit bei Dir.

Lovely villa in the heart of Tuscany
Positives: stunning views, beautiful pool, great location near Lucca (which is fantastic) and with Pisa and Florence in driving distance for day trips. We had a wonderful stay there with our family of 7, and the villa was cleaned once during our stay which was good. Negatives: the host lives on the property in parts that are visible in the photos and quite a few people walked onto the property as it was advertised as an aguturismo. Whilst this didn’t spoil our stay, we would have preferred more privacy. There were parts that were not that child friendly - a steep and uneven climb up to the pool, some steep stone stairs inside the villa, and the fact that the master bedroom is downstairs away from the other bedrooms upstairs. There is also no TV and the wifi signal is very weak and only works well outside the host’s part of the villa. Monica prepared some delicious food for us while we were there that was a real treat - we had some communication issues agreeing courses and prices but overall it was very nice to have that option at the villa.

Beautiful Villa
Our stay at Monica’s villa /farm was the highlight of our trip to Italy. The place was a perfect location for everyone to gather and enjoy a perfect stay in a magical garden with beautiful views and crystal pool. There was a fantastic kitchen where we made many dinners and a delicious crostata with Mónica’s fresh goat ricotta- delicious! And there were beautiful hikes right out the front door! There were also some lovely animal friends who we will never forget Polli the chicken and Tina the cat- we will miss you!

heart warming home in the countryside
after a small odyssey through the countryside you find a beautiful, well equipped and spotlessly clean house with flowers, plants and friendly animals all around - and of course a stunning view from the hill. monica is a very nice host who even served a delicious tuscan birthday dinner. we stayed with 2 families and had a very good time. 100% recommendable!

Wonderful break
I had a wonderful holiday with 8 others staying at Monica's holiday home. It is in a beautiful location, with views across the local area. We spent our time either relaxing next to the pool or exploring nearby Lucca. The house is very spacious, clean and comfortable. We would love to stay again and would recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxing break!

Fantastic home in the Tuscan Countryside! We had an amazing visit and highly recommend!
We had an amazing week at Villa Lean. Two families with 6 kids ranging in age from 2-14 were extremely comfortable with the space. The views were just lovely! Monica and Giovanni were fantastic hosts and the meal she prepared for us was delicious. The home was a short drive to Lucca, Pisa, and Florence which made for fun day trips! We would definitely stay again and recommend this home very highly!!

A little bit of Paradise
This is a fabulous place for a family, a friend group, or a couple's getaway. The house is set in a beautiful property with a gorgeous view. There is room for the kids to run and explore, play with Olga the dog, pet the goats and sheep and maybe even feed them. We had an amazing dinner prepared for us by Monica on New Year's Eve, (she's a chef), and Giovani took us on one of the most fun and beautiful hikes I've ever been on. This is a place to stay for at least several days to explore the surrounding area and truly enjoy the beauty at Monica's house. This is a place we will definitely return to.

Wonderful hilltop villa close to Lucca
This was an absolutely fantastic experience - 20 years after we had first visited Monica’s villa for Y2K (look it up if you don’t remember). The site of the villa is exceptional ensuring the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets throughout our late December stay. The villa has been beautifully restored by Monica making for a very comfortable experience for all guests. And wonderful sunny weather while Switzerland where we had come from had been experiencing rainy grey days. Monica and Giovanni, along with their wonderful menagerie of very friendly dogs, cats, sheep and goats among others, could not be more welcoming and helpful throughout our time, suggesting great places to visit. In my view this is the best location in all of Tuscany and we will be back in future years to enjoy it.

Excellent family holiday
We were a 3 generation family group of 10 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay: accommodation, location, views, animals, pool etc. Monica and Giovanni were extremely helpful and Monica's cooking was the highlight of the holiday, we had 4 excellent meals sitting outside on the terrace. For the children seeing the dogs and hen wandering around daily was a delight as were the goats, chickens, doves, ewe, wild boar in their pens. Giovanni took a group of 6 on a trek and swim in the mountains and all came back having had a wonderful time. All in all a holiday to remember !

A Tuscany treasure!
We rented this villa to accommodate a small family reunion. We were 11 people in total with differing ages, interests and abilities. This villa was an absolute perfect fit for our group. There was something for everyone. It was the perfect place to visit and relax between our outings to Luca, Florence, Pisa, the Mediterranean, and other local villages. The rooms were comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped, the pool refreshing, and the meals prepared and served by Monica and Gio superb. The Villa itself was enough to receive a five star rating. However, it was the added blessing of having Monica, Gio and Marcello as our hosts that really made our trip so memorable. They are hard-working, kind, and generous of spirit. They shared their home and hearts with us, and we really appreciate them. We also loved meeting all their animal family. Polly will always have a special place in our heart! Thank you Monica, Gio and Marcello. We miss you already! Jennifer and family from the Canadian prairies and the Netherlands.

Real Tuscany
We were looking for a real taste of Tuscan life. Our group of twelve (ages 2 years to 69) moved in and took over the property. Monica is a wonderful hostess and an absolutely amazing cook. Her meals were as good as any (and better than many) we had during our 10 day stay in Italy. Both Monica and Giovanni were delightful to talk with and gave us some great recommendations to enhance our stay. Monica was eager to make dinner reservations and winery tour arrangements for us. The view from the property is magical. The pool was a wonderful retreat after a day of sightseeing. The animals were a delight for everyone. When departing Villa Lean for the airport we all realized we had truly experienced authentic Tuscan life.
