Amazing Place to Stay

It was great waking up to the beautiful ocean view, seeing the amazing sunsets over the ocean, and listening to the waves crashing on the beach at night. The gated property was clean and felt very safe. It was also very private. The pool and patio were also great places to relax and take in the views. The host was very attentive.The driveway is a bit challenging to navigate, but typical for the location. There are also quite a few steps from the parking area to the home, but well worth it for the view. If you are looking for a place with privacy and a great view to relax, check this place out!

Absolute magic - Cannot wait to come back

Our stay at the Emerald Abode was truly unforgettable — pure magic from start to finish. My husband and I came to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place.The house itself is a dream. It does take a little adjustment to the outdoor kitchen and semi-outdoor bathroom, but once you settle in, it feels like paradise. Waking up to the 180-degree ocean view every morning was breathtaking — pictures can’t do it justice. The privacy and view alone make it top notch.What made our stay even more special was April, the owner. She is incredibly kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the area. She had a bottle of rosé, fresh fruit, bread, and eggs waiting for us, which was such a thoughtful touch after our late arrival. Her hospitality made us feel instantly at home and very safe. Santa Teresa is a beautiful, laid-back town filled with lovely people and easy access to beaches, snorkeling, and wildlife preserves — we did a ton in the area but honestly, it was hard to tear ourselves away from the serenity of the Abode.We are already dreaming of coming back. It’s one of those places you almost don’t want to share so it can stay a hidden gem — but it deserves every bit of praise. Thank you, April, for making our 10-year anniversary so magical!

3 days in paradise

Clean, amazing view. Great host who had a welcoming present of cold beer and fresh fruit waiting in the fridge. Just be advised that the road up to the house is quite steep and best to have an ATV or car with 4x4 mode. The view is worth it!

Emerald Abode is awesome. Fantastic location...so close to world-class beaches, yet secluded up on the hill for peace, quiet and wonderful views. The pool was amazing. April was a lovely host. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

I booked this beautiful property. Check in was very smooth and the property immaculate. Unfortunately, my friend had a family emergency and we could not stay the evening but I would highly recommend. The view is amazing and you cant find a vetter spot for sunsets in Santa Teresa

Pura Vida in Santa Teresa

Santa Teresa is a magical place with miles of unspoiled beaches, brimming with an off-the-grid, no-frills vibe, and teeming with surfers, yoga-seekers, and a myriad of restaurant choices. Nestled in the trees just up the hill from the main roadway, Emerald Abode ices the Playa Santa Teresa cake as an oasis of privacy, simplicity and one-ness with the area. With the ever-present sound of the ocean waves, and the open-air layout of the patio, lounge area and pool, it provides stunning views and amazing sunsets creating a difficult choice between beach and quiet seclusion. April is an exceptional host, thoughtfully providing a stocked kitchen, beach gear, and bathroom amenities, which enables you to live your vacation. She also goes above and beyond providing expert recommendations for activities, dining options, and even facilitating transportation options (quads/ATVs are recommended) and taxi from the nearby airport. 1000%.

Home away from home

Perched on the hill above Santa Teresa, the Emerald Abode became our home away from home. Just off the main road, the leg-in driveway to the home is just steps from the beach access pathway. The infinity pool is so nice we found it difficult to choose to leave for the hustle and bustle of town. If you can drag yourself away from the Emerald Abode, try Shambala on the beach. They have excellent food and superb cocktails (try the Mezcal Tere). Finally, get to know April. She’s a sweetheart.

Everything just as shown/described on the advertisement and by other reviewers. April has ensured there is everything you could possibly need from beach towels and snorkel gear to the essential foods for when you arrive. She has her own property on the grounds but the house is totally private and secure. The pool is perfect for cooling off after a day’s trekking or being in the beach. The house allows for views of the sea from every room. Sunsets every night! I will miss that. We really enjoyed our evening swims gazing up at the stars after being out all day. House and location are perfect and April is the perfect host. The beach is a 10 minute walk away or 5 minute drive. You will need a 4 wheel drive not only for the Emerald Abode but for Santa Teresa. Highly recommend you choose to stay here if coming to the area. We plan to come back and stay longer next time and I wouldn’t choose anywhere other than Emerald Abode to stay. out all day.

Great Tropical Oasis

My husband and I were on our honeymoon. We picked April's place because of the beautiful view, the privacy, and safety. Any questions we had April was always there to help us out. She gave us lots of great suggestions for snorkeling. We checked in pretty late because of our flight time and traffic, but April was very accommodating. She had the fridge stoked with fresh fruit, eggs, bread to get us started for the first full day. She even left us a bottle of champagne, which was so very sweet of her. My husband and I enjoyed that on our first official night. Great time all around!

What a view!

Even after going to all the beautiful beaches and on some engaging nature hikes, our favorite part of the day was returning to the Emerald Abode. There we would enjoy watching the sunset from the privacy of the pool. As a matter of fact during the four weeks that we spent at the Abode, we only missed three sunsets from the pool deck. Of course our experience was enhanced by the ever gracious and informative April. Her thoughtful assistance was greatly appreciated and very useful. David & Teri

Awesome VRBO!

The property is very private and secluded, yet minutes away from local beaches, surf shops, stores, and restaurants. Some of the best sport fishing in the world is located south of Santa Teresa in the small port town of Malpais. We booked a half-day charter and caught Mahi Mahi, Roosterfish, and Tuna. The Emerald Abode is a fantastic property. Clean, and quiet, with spectacular views of the ocean and sunsets. The plunge pool is perfect for cooling off in the late afternoons and early evenings. We fell asleep every night to the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the beach. The property is very secure, with a robust, locking automatic gate. Be sure to rent a small to mid-size 4-wheel drive when visiting Santa Teresa. We rented a larger Toyota Landcruiser and it is much too large for driving in this area. The roads are mostly unpaved, with lots of pedestrians, quads, motorcycles, cars, and trucks of all sizes. April is a fantastic VRBO manager. She is attentive, professional, and full of local knowledge of the area. Her advice regarding places to visit and local cuisine never steered us wrong! When we return to Costa Rica, we will definitely be back to the Emerald Abode! Doug and Gayna

The facility and the host April was wonderful. April was very attentive. My only issue was the road to the property. It is very steep and 4x4 or quad required. Walked it twice bringing in supplies and then rented an ATV. This had no bearing on our stay or enjoyment of our stay.

As good as it gets

I almost never write online reviews, but this experience was special. Our host, April, was so helpful with information and making various arrangements for us. Her attention to detail shows throughout the property. It was exactly the tropical getaway we were hoping for. If you're the type of traveler who prefers the "Four Seasons"-type of resorts, complete with valet parking and luxury shopping then Santa Teresa might not be for you. OTOH if you enjoy seclusion amongst a lush tropical canopy with breathtaking ocean views and lots of wildlife, look no further. You can do a "surf check" from the comfort of your bed, or kitchen, or bathroom, or private pool, or the deck-mounted hammock. A well stocked kitchen made "meal prep with a view" a favorite activity. The local restaurant offerings were A+ in quality, far exceeding our expectations. Definitely try the local Soda's too. Santa Teresa has amazingly consistent surfable waves. If you prefer calm water for snorkeling or SUPing, it's an easy drive to Mal Pais, Cabuya or Montezuma. Thank you April! We will definitely stay here when we return to Costa Rica.

An amazing place!

This property is exceptional! This is not only the place itself (very well appointed, comfortable, great pool, fantastic view, close to the beach… a little oasis!) but also the owner. April, she Thrives at providing the best experience for the people renting from her. She organized a quad rental for us ( better than a car there), a taxi to Tambor airport ( the best way to get back to San Jose). We had a wonderful experience!
