My husband and two dogs had wonderful time!! Very clean, beautiful location, access to trails practically out your back door!! Star gazing so awesome with no light pollution! Hosts are welcoming, wonderful! So quiet!!

Weekend getaway

Girls Weekend
Emily & Matt’s place was the perfect place for a quick girls weekend getaway. Everything we needed was there, down to the coffee creamer! Direct access to the great trail system, and a short jaunt into town should you need anything. Super clean, super spacious but with a cozy feel and some friendly chickens to greet you at the patio door in the mornings. We loved the stay and will definitely be back!

Idyllic cottage
Everything was exactly as described on this cottage. It was spotless. The bed was very comfy. The setting was very private. We spotted multiple deer each morning, as well as turkeys and some huge fox squirrels. Loved watching the chickens walk around. Scratched behind the ears of a quite tame charolais cow. All in all - a wonderful stay .

Wonderful quiet getaway!
Awesome little cottage in a beautiful location. Kids loved the downtime and playing with the animals roaming around. Lots of trails and beautiful parks within walking distance and short drives. Can't wait to be back!

A Regular Weekend Getaway
This is our second weekend stay at the Rookery and it was every bit as relaxing and enjoyable as our first stay. Great access to outdoor activities on a beautiful property. Our second weekend was so lovely that we've decided to make it a bi-annual trip to get out of our regular day to day routine and relax with friends. I highly recommend going outside late at night and taking a look at the sky-can't be beat!

Amazing!
Nice spacious cabin and very clean. We especially enjoyed our “neighbors” - very friendly dogs, chickens, a goat and cows. Emily and Matt have thought of everything. There was plenty of firewood, charcoal, lighter fluid, lighter, roasting forks, grill tools, paper towels, etc. There are even food and water bowls for dogs! We loved it and will be back!

Perfect weekend getaway
We wanted to get away from the "big city" and disconnect for a couple days. This fit the bill perfectly. Friday night was perfect campfire weather and I got in rides at Whiterock Friday and Saturday morning. It rained Saturday afternoon and evening, but getting caught in the rain is no problem when there is a warm cottage with a hot shower waiting for you. It was perfect weather for staying in and playing games. The cottage was larger than expected with plenty of space for four adults and two dogs. We made full use of the kitchen and there really wasn't anything we wanted but didn't have (though Emily says they are hoping to get a gas grill eventually and that would be a great addition.) One thing to note: the door between the two halves of the cottage is a sliding barn door so it does nothing for sound. We are already discussing a return trip.

Perfect Cozy Cottage
Emily and Matt's cottage was absolutely perfect for our family weekend getaway. As avid outdoors people, we were looking for somewhere to get immersed in nature during this last stretch of winter. This was the perfect spot. We were surrounded by miles of hiking trails in Whiterock Conservancy, some an easy walk to from the cottage, others a mere minute drive down the road near the river to access. Our kids and pups had an amazing time. Emily was a perfect host. She was easy to communicate with and got a hold of us a couple days before our trip to make sure she could have the cottage ready with anything we might need, like food bowls and extra towels for our pups muddy paws. The cottage is stocked with quite literally everything you will need. We will definitely be making a return trip to the cottage when it gets warmer for further exploring. Thanks again Emily and Matt!

2nd Stay - It was Great!
This was our 2nd time staying amount exactly a year later. It was nice to get away and reconnect. It was also great to see that they did minor updates to the cottage: New doors, new windows, etc. The hosts are amazing people.

Best vacation spot
Matt & Emily are honestly the bests hosts I think I ever stayed with. There accommodations were amazing and such amazing hospitality. Everything you need is there I would rather stay with them then at a 5 star hotel. I loved the chickens as well as my son did and everything was just amazing. We had booked the trip as a get away from technology and be more in touch with nature. Watching the stars at night was purely breathe taking. If you have the extra cash I would highly recommend staying here.

Great place for a quiet getaway.
The owners were awesome. The place is beautiful along with surrounding countryside. Enjoyed Kiwi the goat. He seems more like a dog as he wags his tail when you pet him.

Great stay!
The property was VERY clean which made us feel comfortable. They had everything you can think of there, incase you forgot anything. They even had fresh eggs from their free-ranging chickens in the fridge for us! I gave 5 stars for everything except for accuracy of listing and location/neighborhood, those are 4 stars, WHICH WAS STILL GREAT! It's not totally negative in any way. This place was, overall, absolutely AWESOME! I just felt that way due to owners home/workshop/chicken coop being (kinda) close to the cottage and also the location of it being on/close a gravel road. The cottage owners home was still a good distance away and they were EXTREMELY nice people. The gravel road was nice cause on one of the hiking trails, it was easy to figure out where we were/how to get back to the cottage since we knew it was on the gravel road (this will make more sense when you give this place a try). Also, the cottage sat back about 60ish yards back from the gravel road. Ideally, we were just wanting it to be a tad more secluded. All-in-all, VERY enjoyable stay, quiet, clean, owners were helpful with how to get around the trails, awesome scenery, spacious cottage, dog pet friendly and firepit. I was just a well needed - great time!

Perfect farm weekend!
Emily & Matt were great. Our daughter wishes to live on a farm so this was awesome for her. She got to feed the goat and chickens and collect eggs. The cottage has so many amenities that I wish there was a detailed list. I wouldn’t have packed so much. Including a floor fan for each room. Really great and we’ll be back.

Exactly what we were hoping for!

Perfect cozy cottage with a great location and everything we needed!
We had a lovely stay at The Rookery Cottage - perfect romantic Valentines weekend. The cottage was cozy and comfortable and the hiking trails afforded us beautiful walks with our dogs. It was an absolute winter wonderland with a beautiful all day snow also - the woods were magical. Highly recommend Emily & Matt as hosts as well. Great Night Getaway
Home was so cute and cozy! Only stayed two nights and had to leave early but it was a great stay! Great area ! So peaceful and beautiful. Everything was absolutely great! Being greeted by Emily felt welcoming! Love her! Shes very nice and has made a great place for people to stay and enjoy a home away from home. Can't wait to come back for a girls weekend in the summer and go hiking and have a campfire and enjoy the summer night

Excellent!
Our family of 6 enjoyed our stay at the Rookery. The little decorative touches throughout the cabin give it character and create a cozy and inviting feel. Emily and Matt have done a great job thinking of all of the items you may need during your stay. We had plenty of pillows and blankets for our family (we usually have to travel with extras of these!). We are thrilled to have found this wonderful place to stay! Our family had room to spread out and even though family events and weather kept us from adventuring outdoors we were able to enjoy the beautiful landscape scenery from indoors! We will be back again and look forward to exploring all of the outdoor opportunities the cottage provides! Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Unplugged & Deeply Connected
My family and I stayed here for Thanksgiving holiday and found solid serenity and beauty in the middle of the White Rock Conservancy. The cottage was so accommodating, simple, and cozy for our pack and the trails were extremely exciting with so many new sights & smells for our canine kids. The Rookery looks like it will be our Thanksgiving family tradition!

Plenty of room-- even if stuck inside for a few days!
We enjoyed our quick getaway to the Rookery. While rain kept us from the outdoor activities we hoped for, the Rookery had plenty of indoor space for our family of 6 and dog. Thanks for sharing the perfect spot for us! :)

Great place, great people.
Had a group of college friends that wanted to get together for a float trip. Found the Rookery as a central location and it couldn't have been better. On a private acreage in the middle of a nature conservancy, the area is quiet and peaceful. Emily and Matt could not have been better hosts. We will definitely be back!
