Loved it!
We came from the north to meet friends from the south for a fishing trip. And the cottage was clean, neat and comfortable. The kitchen had amenities like spices and zip lock bags and dish soap which was really appreciated. Yes, the railroad is nearby, but it really didn't disrupt our visit or sleep. We hope to return for another visit!

Lovely, quaint little cabin
Although this cabin is close to the tracks and river, and the train is fairly loud, we didn't mind. It's actually my toddlers favorite part. The cabin was cute but small, very clean, and has all the utensils you need to cook. Its a bit too tight if you need to bring a play pen for a toddler to sleep, so be aware, but otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Great Location, close to Shasta and day hikes.
Central, family friendly and charming, very cozy cabin. I read about the train, but it really didn't bother us at all. The owner was helpful and provided me a list of family friendly hikes. We would definitely stay there again.

Very relaxing and comfortable
The beds were probably the best, it is hard to find a place where you sleep well. The trains did go through often, but did not bother us one bit, love the sound of trains. Beautiful all around, kitchen had everything we needed and enjoyed sitting in the living room next to the fire. I would definitely come back!

Delightful and homey
My partner and I stumbled upon Dunsmuir a few years back when looking to celebrate an anniversary. We instantly fell in love with the area. This cabin was the cherry on top of a return trip. The fire was so cozy. The living space had games and books and just felt so welcoming. We didn't want to leave. Our host was amazing and communicated everything we needed. We were already discussing coming back there in the future after day one.

Spring fishing attempt.
More amenities than expected. Grampa had issues with shower because I am a fat man,, but only knocked soap dispenser off once. TV took all 3 of party to figure that one out. Great time, very nice cabin!!!!! No fish in the sac yet! Thanks!

Forest setting, functional, clean and fully equipped. Peaceful with river just steps away and the wonderful mystery of train , where is it going , where did it come from, sort drive to Mt Shadya city and its Lemurian influence as well as its beauty and hiking, sling and snow shoeing

The train runs 50 yards from the house and honks all night long at the crossing. There is no river access and the property is run down. We left after one night :-(

Sweet Cabin in the Trees
Our family loved staying in this little cabin in the woods. Close to downtown but feels very removed- in a good way. The kids loved the train nearby. The beds were comfortable and the cabin was clean. We really enjoyed our stay!

Wonderful retreat in the woods
This little house was absolutely darling! It was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with pots & pans and all of the essentials. Especially enjoyed the lovely front porch-- a great place to have morning coffee and listen to the birds. It was a 2 minute walk to the river which had some nice swimming holes. I highly recommend this cabin and hope to return again in the future.

The location was amazing! A drive to Redding or to Weed to stock up ain't far. Yaks is right down the street, don't miss that stop. The cabin was secluded and has beautiful scenery. And if you're down for a 20-minute hike, up the railroad tracks got you two beautiful waterfalls to dip right in.

Nice Cabin in the Woods
This cabin is a nice choice for the Shasta area. Close to both Dunsmuir and Mt Shasta towns. Easy access to I-5 to reach all nearby adventures. Clean property and nice to have a fully stocked kitchen and washer/dryer on site. Trains do pass just down the street, we really didn’t notice them while sleeping as the bedrooms are on the other side of the house, but they are noticeable from the living room, etc.

Cute and Comfortable
Cabin was clean on the inside, just needed a bit TLC. Light above the stove was out, bathroom nightlight was out and the outside f the cabin was unkept. After we swept and cleaned up the front/back it was the perfect setting. Even with the minor glitches we would absolutely go back.

This was a perfect cabin to stay in. My husband and I stayed here for 4 days. We brought food of course. But I could not believe how well equipped this cabin was. Everything you need and more. It was clean, and inviting. A welcome sign when you arrive. Omg the best. We did not have one complaint. Make one wish when you stay at other places in the world like hotels, that you wish they had all the amenities this cabin had. We will return again.

Noisy trains, but pretty nice
Overall, nice. Pros- Cabin was clean, mostly as described, and served our purposes for this visit. Great location to visit the local towns, good hub to see the sights. The falls, multiple hiking trails, and botanical gardens are not far away, and are beautiful. Cons- Trains are more than the "occasional" listed by the description. Our first night, they ran every 1-2 hours, and with the track crossing being 3 houses down, the bells, the horns, squeaks of the tracks, and rumbling were quite loud. Made for a restless night. The second night was better, but still counted 5 trains between 10P and 6A. The twin beds were uncomfortable, obviously very old- they had that lovely 80's avacado coloring to them. Probably OK for the kids, but for a 200# guy... not great. The town is cute, but not a lot to do there. Most shops seem to be focused on crystals, mystical healing, yoga type stuff. A few good restaurants too, but it looks like a lot of the shops are closed down. Same in the neighboring towns. Overall, we are not sorry we stayed there, but go in with your eyes wide open. Definitely much better than a hotel.

Qute and cool at the same time
We've only stayed for two nights but were surprised by this cottage. It's qute and cool at the same time. We felt adventures although all the luxury was there. Even Netflix. It's quiet and in the woods. The only thing that could be annoying is the train that comes by a few times a day. But we made that a fun thing.

Great little house!! We had 4 if us for our stay and it was perfect! House has tons of character.
My daughter and her husband and my husband and I stayed at the cabin this past weekend. We had a great time!!! Great little house with tons of character. The house is perfect for 4 people. It’s about a block from the railroad tracks so the trains run pretty often but it didn’t bother us at all. My husband spent his summers in Dunsmuir when he was growing up at his aunties house. That’s why we wanted to plan this trip. So he could show us where he made his funnest childhood memories. The river is right by the train tracks a block from the house. We fished and cooled off in the river. If you come to this area you have to take a hike 1 mile up the train tracks to see Mossbrae Falls. It is nature at her finest!! A truly magical and beautiful experience. We also picked fresh wild blackberries to make ice cream with. We will definitely make plans for another trip in the future. The owner of the house was great to work with and always answered my emails very promptly. All in all a great experience and a great trip. I’m sad it had to end but have something to look forward to in the future.

Hi Paul, I just wanted to follow up. I hadn't noticed your full review somehow it got pass me. The home does have fast speed internet. I recall going over all the information regarding the internet prior to your arrival. I wasn't aware that it wasn't working for you during your stay. If so we would of had made sure that we got it going for you. We hope everything else was accommodating for you and we hope to have you back to stay with us again.

Booked the cabin 2 months in advance, about a week prior was given the address the morning of the trip I realized they didn’t send me any instructions on key codes or how to get in. I immediately sent an email around 8am a few hours later was told the “office will contact me” after another few hours sent another email stating that no one has contacted me yet, all while en route to the cabin we arrived about 4:30pm with no way to enter after driving 4+hours, sitting on the porch trying to get ahold of anyone to help us, we had to contact vrbo to get put up somewhere else for the night.The cabin owner called around 8pm to give us the info after we had just got situated. We lost a lot of food because the hotel couldn’t accommodate everything, and lost time going back to the cabin the next day to set everything up. No one contacted us other than giving us the key info which was a voice mail, no one apologized. The actual cabin was cute and stocked but the neighbors were very rude. I would certainly look else where.

Technology is a bit challenged in our remote area but we did send her emails (verified) with check in instructions and lockbox code and also a call the day of check in and a text too. When she texted us that she did not have the lockbox code and had to stay at a Motel - we were shocked but offered to pay for the Motel if she gave us a receipt. And...yes.as susspected...she couldn't produce one. Then for her to give us a one star. Nope....This is a great cabin and doesn't deserve your review and the staff at MSVR gave you the information you needed. We went back and verified 4 different points of contact to this guest.

Very bad experience
We walked in to a very bad musky, moldy smell. The furniture is very, very old. The mattress's were bad especially the twin mattress's. Three cabins down is a main train line that run's 24 hours a day with trains coming by ever few hour. They blow the whistle and it is so loud it vibrates the cabin. I will think twice before booking with VRBO again

I am sorry you didn't like this home on the river. The river does give off a musky smell but the house itself is mostly new and all furnishings including all mattresses and bedding are all new. There is a train nearby and that information is disclosed in the description. Readers should move on to read all the 4=5 star ratings on this fabulous river cabin.

We spent several wonderful days in this cabin. Took local hiking trips and had a nice dinner at Dunsmuir Brewery Works. The only word of caution is to be aware of the trains. The railroad trucks are just a few hundred feet away from the cabin and we could not get enough sleep because of the passing cargo trains noise and horn blasts.

The setting of this cabin was very nice; set off the river with the occasional train going by created a bit of old fashioned charm. The cabin was nicely setup and had been updated recently. We were very happy with our stay.

End of fall. Welcome winter!
my 15 yo son and I stayed at the River Run cabin for 3 nights over Thanksgiving ( unfortunately my husband was out of country). We really enjoyed the cabin and the whole area. After 1 full day of rain ( which did not interfere with our hike to the Faery Waterfalls), it started snowing, and we were leaving from the winter wonderland. Dunsmuir is a bucolic place, very peaceful and picturesque. We loved the cabin!!

This cozy cabin had all we needed for our family get away, we absolutely loved it!
This cute and cozy cabin has everything needed for a relaxing get away. It was clean, equipped with all the basics and very comfortable. The location is perfect for access to river, Moss Brea Falls, walking distance to downtown Dunsmuir and local park. Close to Mt Shasta and easy access to freeway for all other sight seeing in the area. We rented it for 3 days and it was just perfect for our family of 4. We wil definately rent it again.
