The Spylaw Bank House is a gorgeous late-Georgian era (1780s) historic property with fully modern amenities. I visited with my daughter, and we found that it had the most comfortable beds & pillows we slept on during our entire vacation. Thanks to this, combined with its quiet surroundings, it provided us with the most restful stay we enjoyed during our trip to the UK.
Its large, well-appointed rooms have plenty of storage space and power outlets. The full British breakfast is delicious. As an added bonus, the coffee is truly excellent (French-pressed). The host, David, is a talented conversationalist who is charming, engaging, welcoming, helpful, accommodating (e.g., we were late for breakfast) and very knowledgeable. He is a true polymath who will reward your curiosity on any topic that arises.
It is conveniently located to downtown Edinburgh. We drove, and it's just 20 minutes from downtown. There are also public transportation options just a short walk away.
It is also just a block away from a wonderful village. We found the people there to be tremendously welcoming.
I cannot recommend this property highly enough, and I wall stay here again when I return to Edinburg.
