Clean and friendly
Friendly staff, clean rooms with perfect temperature, nice beds and fluffy covers, towels for rent. It’s a 15-20 min walk to the city. Located near cafe noir that serves amazing coffee, if you choose to not take your breakfast at the hostel. There is also a kitchen if you want to make your own breakfast. The hostel is really clean and nice and I would definitely stay again.

Good decent place for a short stay in Edinburgh
Excellent lounge and staircase ! Bedrooms less so, two levels of bunks would be much nicer ... ensuite in bunk rooms v.welcome. Kitchen etc too small for the place. Good location, fine for the money, recommended...

Great hostel, very beautiful, one point of improvement; the bins in the ladies bathroom were full for three days in a row. Other than that it was all very clean and nice.

Was placed in a room with an entire group of young men who were under the understanding that they were the only ones staying in the room. They came in at 3 am turning the lights on and being loud and said that they booked out the whole room. Its pretty frustrationing that they wouls put a single in with a large group when there was clearly other bunks availabile in other rooms. Large groups should be booked on separately or have explained very explicitly that someone else will be bunking with them

Hi Jessica,I feel your review is a bit unfair.Firstly you booked a 24 bed MIXED DORM with a shared bathroom. This means that the dorm is mixed gender and has 24 beds. We cannot specify who or what gender books the dorm as it clearly states mixed.There were other room/dorm choices to choose from when you made your reservation as we have female only dorms and 6 bed and 9 bed mixed ensuite dorms.The other guests in the dorm did not book in as one group. We had a number of different nationalities in that dorm. If you felt uncomfortable you could have come to reception and one of our staff members would have moved you to another dorm. Our reception is covered all night.Kind RegardsWest End Hostel

The hostel is far too expensive for what it is. It is a perfectly decent simple hostel but this should be reflected in the price. I stayed in a much nicer hostel the week before for less than half the price.

Really enjoyed my stay, but would recommend the hostel to have curtains around the bed considering the lights in the bathroom are automatic and keep you awake at night. But for the rest, great hostel! 8/10

I was sceptical due to very mixed reviews but it was the only hostel left when I booked (end of August, fringe festival). It was totally fine though! Sure, the triple bunk beds aren't the best idea, but the room I stayed in was clean, I slept well, the room had an ensuite (shared with everyone else in the room ofc) and the WiFi worked perfectly. There are lockers in the room but they're riny, just big enough for a purse maybe but definitely not a trolley or backpack. And they require 1pound/euro to use. Luggage storage isn't even a separate room, just in the corner of the bar. Not as centrally located as many other hostels but not too bad either, it's like a 10/15min walk to the centre.

Estaba limpio, pero la luz en los baños iba por sensor y cuando te estás duchando se apaga la luz y no hay posibilidad de encenderla sin salir… lo mismo en el wc … así q esto fue lo que menos me gustó. El personal muy majo. La localización a 20 minutos caminando del centro

Beds were uncomfortable. Double bunk beds are fine but three is not ok to sleep in. Mattress was worn out. Light sensor was only present in the bathroom but not in the toilet and shower so people ended up often in the dark. Room was too hot.

12er Schlafsaal Frauen: für einige Nächte voll in Ordnung, allerdings kein erholsamer Schlaf, da ständig jemand auscheckt/ eincheckt/ Wecker klingeln etc. Blöderweise ist der Bewegungsmelder für das Licht in der Dusche in einem anderen Raum-> man duscht öfter im Dunkeln :D Alles in allem echt okay, hat alles was man für einen kurzen Aufenthalt braucht, für mehrere Nächte würde ich kein Großraumzimmer empfehlen. Unterkunft ist aber schön und in diesem Sinne empfehle ich sie weiter!

Cheapest,worst place in Edinburgh
Terrible,charged me for my bookings twice and never returned the money,I had to request wrong payment from my bank.The same thing happened with a chinese student checking in at the same time as me.Not very friendly staff if you don't spend money in the bar.This place might be cheap but they will scam you if they think they can get away with it and the place is not very friendly to foreigners

Good evening. I am sorry to hear of such an occurrence here at The West End Hostel. In regards to the double payment - after the initial contact you were asked to provide us with proof of the double payment. As this was not received we were unable to proceed with a refund. In regards to staff rudeness to another guest - we have no knowledge of such an occurence, nor have we received a notice of complaint. Should this have happened, we would have rectified the situation as soon as we had knowledge. However, we have not. Lastly, the statement about "foreigners" is a total lie. I like the quiet area of Edinburgh it is in. The washing spaces did seem a bit limited and the self catering kitchen could have done with more fridges. But generally a good place to stay on a budget.

Greedy management
Way too many beds rammed into the room. Bathroom was filthy. Only toilet for men was upstairs while women had several. Kitchen utensils and pans were all old and scorched.

Mi cuarto sólo tenía 6 camas y tenía baño privado :). Lo único malo es que los contactos eléctricos USB para cargar tus dispositivos no todos servían para cargar la batería, así que era difícil encontrar donde cargarla.
