Great place to stay
This was a great place to stay, convenient location, quiet neighborhood and a large yard. Really liked staying here and Dave, the property manager was quick to respond. It was great to have access to beach umbrella and beach chairs. The only thing is that all the toys on the property inside or outside are pretty much broken. Tried to check a couple of board games, but they didn't contain the peaces are were probably all mixed up between the boxes. We enjoyed the beach and the outdoors. It's was a very nice house and a quiet neighborhood. Will definitely stay here again if we'll be in the area.

A hummingbird paradise
Great location in town. Quiet and comfortable. This was our second time staying at sweet Alice. we like the comforts of the interior, the large outside area and the birds haven all around! Dave is a responsive and helpful host.

Nice property, affordable and centrally located between the beach and inland amenities like Target and Trader Joes. I would definitely stay here again. Lovely grass yard where my wife and I enjoyed have an evening drink in the shade

Sweet Alice is indeed Sweet
Perfect location to the zoo, safari, Legoland and Sea World. The beaches are pristine. We loved Carlsbad Beach. Sweet Alice Is private and has a beautiful yard for the kids to play. We would definitely stay again.

Updated Comfortable House
Really enjoyed our stay here. It's an older Encinitas home that has been updated to make it more comfortable and to enjoy the view. Very quiet location above small canyon, with a Catholic Church behind you. We did notice lots of traffic on Christmas Eve, since the drive shares the road with the Church, but that was short lived. The two bedrooms were very comfortable and quiet. Bring some eye masks if you are a late sleeper, because there are no blackout curtains in the master bedroom. The kitchen was small but adequate for cooking for the 3 of us. The house sits on a nice piece of property with a lawn, some fruit trees, and a firepit where you can all sit around and make s'mores. The front room was a great place to relax with a view of the canyon and the sunset.

Sweet Cottage
We took a family girls weekend to the beach and stayed at Sweet Alice. It’s super cute and we all felt that the owner took pride and care in helping their guest feel comfortable. Sweet little touches everywhere like they really thought about what their guest would enjoy. We would definitely stay here again.

OK… but there were issues!
The property is lovely and as depicted in the description and pictures. But: 1. The driveway entrance to the property is totally torn up with huge chunks of concrete that we worried we’re going to damage our car every time we drove in or out. This was a hazard. 2. We had a massive ant infestation that was dealt with by the property exterminator but we had to live with aunts everywhere in the kitchen for 3 days. Once the exterminator came the problem was resolved but until then all food had to be kept in the refrigerator. 3. Nothing tells you that the property shares roads with a church and its very busy school. If you try to leave or come home between pick up hours you cannot get near Sweet Alice Lane. You also run into bike and car traffic from the Middle School and preschool across the street! We know and love the area… but these things were definitely concerns. And since I came in recovering froze an unexpected broken hip, these issues added complications! Under different circumstances we would have used the grounds more…. Loved the birds! Please fix the driveway and tell folks about the school hours! Carole Levine

Thanks for the review Carole. We have repaired the driveway and installed a new gate. We have a pest control company that services this home, however this year was especially bad with ants. Apologize for any inconvenience.

Great hideaway for family
We needed a place to stay for a sports tournament in the area and this place was perfect. The GPS took me to the wrong address, but it wasn't difficult to figure out where to go. The driveway had some damage, but we just avoided it and it was fine. The house itself was full of thoughtful touches and very well maintained. The host was responsive and accommodating. Location was perfect with groceries, restaurants and activities nearby. Best feature is the location of the house. It's really hidden away which is great for me and my family. Quiet neighborhood and peaceful.

Always a pleaseure to stay at Sweet Alice.
We rent this home every summer and always enjoy the homes privacy, location, and amenities. Our kiddos love the large grass area and the outdoor fire pit for tasting marshmallows. Can’t wait to come back next year.

Comfortable Stay

Great family vacay
Overall, we had a great stay! The house had everything we needed (toys, books, games, pack n play, booster/high chair seat, beach towels, etc.). My girls loved running around the yard and throwing the frisbee and kicking a ball around. There were some appliance issues, but Dave was very responsive and had repair guys out to fix them ASAP. We spent most of our time at Legoland, so didn’t affect our stay too much. We’ll definitely return!

Quiet and Nice
The house was perfect. The entrance is terrible. The concrete is busted and the gate hard to push open and very rough entering and exiting. The yard was fantastic. The fire pit!!! Get rid of the rusted out thing and replace it! It was stated to make sure and put the screen over the fire…….no screen….rusted! Broken chairs. Make it nice to sit out. We willl consider staying again.

Thank you for letting us know about these items so we can take care of them. The driveway concrete was broken due to a neighbors tree roots. This has been corrected and we have a new driveway now. We have also replaced the fire pit was a new one. The coastal weather makes these fire pits rust quickly.

Great home base
Great house for family trip. Nothing fancy but had everything we needed. Feels very private with a great yard and view. Perfect home base for San Diego adventures and a 5 minute drive to the beach.

Peaceful haven!

Very nice home base
Perfect location to go to the beach and restaurants. We went to San Diego quite a bit and it was a good location for that. Love moonlight beach. The big yard was a nice place to relax and hangout. Could use more towels. We had thought we would be able to check in a little early, but for some reason that didn't work out. Overall we had a great stay. We would definitely stay again.

Thanks Karen for the kind review. We just purchased all new towels and provide extra towels in the hallway closet. We try and provide 8-10 taels for stays. Unfortunately we could not check you in early as we had guests leave earlier that day, we do our best.

Great house, great location!
My family and I stayed at Sweet Alice during our time in Encinitas and we loved it. The interior and exterior are wonderful and it was the perfect location for everything we wanted to accomplish in the San Diego area. The kids also loved that it was less than 20 minutes to Legoland! We would definitely stay here again!

It’s becoming a habit
This was our third stay at Sweet Alice, and we enjoyed it every bit as much as in the past. The house is not terribly upscale or fancy, but it is bright and fresh and features a wonderful airflow that captures the slightest breeze. The lawn and garden are large, quiet and very private, and the fire pit is a nice setting for a glass of wine in the evening.

Our family spent a week at Sweet Alice and it was perfect for our twins that like to run around. The grass area and all the outdoor space to explore was amazing. A Cancer Warrior Trip of a Lifetime
Sweet Alice was the ideal central location for hitting the Southern California Amusement Parks. As a family we headed out to give my 2 year old Grandson who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor/cancer (DIPG) a trip of making memories and enjoying life. We left from Washington and headed down the coast through Oregon and headed to Disneyland as main attraction then onto San Diego as the furthest destination. We wanted to hit Lego Land, Sea World, San Diego Zoo and the Safari Zoo Park after leaving Disneyland. Having Sweet Alice as a central stay we were able to do everything we planned and able to have one place to stay for that end of the trip. It was perfect and Dave was a Great Host in making sure we had everything needed for our stay. We were very pleased with the location and everything we needed or wanted was within a few miles. If we get the opportunity to plan another road trip with our little man in the area we would definitely plan a stay here again. Perfect location and quiet.
Our family had an outstanding time enjoying the Sweet Alice property . I say property because there is a great lawn for games, fire pit for cool nighttime gatherings, cute patio to have a conversation and dinners. Oh yea there is a home to. Just the correct size for us and is so bright and cheerful. Lots of Widows bring the outside in.! All in All this was a shear delight VRBO. Dave was also wonderful to deal with in setting up our stay.

Lovely, private property
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Sweet Alice. It was clean, the modern kitchen had everything we needed - in fact, the whole house did! Once the gate is closed, you feel quite secluded, even in the midst of a bustling area. We’ll definitely try to stay again.

Sweet Alice Cottage
This was our fourth time staying at the cottage. The cottage is so cozy and accommodating. Location is perfect with the beach and shops close by and the freeway right there. Dave had called in to check on us while we were there to make sure everything was ok.

Best little Cottage in Encinitas

Sweet Alice is one of a kind.
Our family has been using VRBO since 2015 and once again, We hit the Jackpot!!! What caught my attention first and foremost was how big the yard is, especially for my 2 and half year old son, a must for us. The second added benefit was we were easily two blocks down from our family. But I believe the overall charm and history of the home is what made it feel like home. Simply decorated and tons of natural light shining through all the big windows. Sweet Alice has everything you need and more. Plus the smell of the Ocean, who wants to leave! Thank you Dave for a most pleasant vacation. We will be back!!!!

Steve and Jeanette from Florida love sweet Alice cottage!
My wife and I were visiting our son from Fort Lauderdale, FL. The cottage was very clean and cozy. It had all of the appliances we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving dinner along with a nice size refrigerator for our leftovers and refreshments.The location is excellent was really close to everything and loved that we didn’t hear any traffic. We will definitely be back soon for another vacation and stay in sweet Alice. Thank you so much 😊

Charming sunny cottage!
This home had the charm of a sunny cottage built in the 40's, with plenty of modern upgrades such as A/C, appliances and super comfy beds. Lots of room to spread out, and a full kitchen to use. Close and convenient drive to beaches and restaurants. Host was terrific.

Great return visit
Our second stay at Sweet Alice, and just as good as the first. We love the privacy and quiet nature of the property, as well as its proximity to the beaches, Encinitas, Leucadia, the Botanic Garden and I-5. There’s always a nice breeze flowing through the living areas. And, although you can’t quite see the ocean, the sunsets are terrific.

Wonderful and Relaxing
Our son who is an over the road truck driver had a heart attack while waiting for a load. We received the call about noon and immediately went on VRBO to find a place to stay . Sweet Alice came up . We emailed a question an got an immediate response and it was only 10 minutes from the hospital! We were there 5 days and what a wonderful place!! Secluded ,quiet, everything you need is provided! Great place for a family as the yard is large and lots of room for kids to run and grownups to relax. Our son spent 2 nites with us after discharge from the hospital and so much better than a motel room!! Of all the places on VRBO someone from above pointed us to Sweet Alice and her wonderful managers in a stressful time! We highly recommend and would love to come back ourselves Elmer and Judy

Home away from home
Our family completely enjoyed everything about this perfect little vacation home. We arrived and the house was perfectly clean and we had a gift basket full of goodies waiting for us. Our kids quickly found all the toys books, puzzles and games. The beds are super comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals at the home. Highly recommend.
