Pet Friendly "Reel Chill" Lakehouse

Experience peace, quiet and fresh air on George's Lake! Quiet cottage on large, tranquil lake perfect for swimming, fishing and boating. Sunsets are incredible from the deck and star-gazing on the dock is magical. Grill out, unplug and let your cares float away in our low-key cottage.

Close to Gainesville, Palatka, Melrose, Keystone and just a stone's throw from Jacksonville, the lake house feels like a world away but it doesn't take forever to get here!
The space
This is a low-key, no frills lake cottage where the main focus is unplugging and enjoying the great outdoors. The cottage is clean and comfortable but it's not the Ritz Carlton! George's Lake is casual, laid back and country. If you love to fish, boat, swim or just read a book, you'll love it here!

We've got a living room with cozy seating and big windows overlooking the lake and our long fishing dock. There's an eat-in kitchen, a mudroom to store wet floats and soggy shoes and a fire pit for cool nights.

We're on a dirt road right along the lake. Onsite parking will fit 4 vehicles.

FAQ
1. Is fishing gear or boating equipment available?
No, please bring your own!. There is a public boat ramp .

2. Do you have a grill?
Yes. Don't forget to bring charcoal and lighter.

3. Where is the closest grocery store?
Hitchcock's, Harvey's, Dollar General are nearby. If you want to really stock up, there are Walmarts, Targets and Winn Dixies on the way in! Please note there are no delivery services out here - no Instacart or Uber Eats.

4. Is all bedding provided?
Yes, pillows, sheets, blankets, towels, etc.

5. What about alligators and snakes?
While we have rarely seen gators and snakes in 40+ years at our property, in Florida, there's always a chance you might meet some of the locals. Keep a sharp eye on pets and kids, don't swim after dusk, don't leave food outside overnight and if you do see a critter, please don't feed them. (It's illegal! And it's almost surely a death sentence for the animal.)

All outdoor activities by nature come with risk and by booking our cottage, you assume those risks.
There are 3 exterior security cameras on the property. They cover the dock, deck and parking/walkway.

When I saw the five star reviews, my expectations were pretty high. However, upon arrival, we learned that that the heaters cannot all be running at the same time otherwise the circuits will blow. This turned out to be an issue as it was extremely cold in the house for three of the nights that we stayed there. It was too cold to take a shower in the morning. I'm from the North. The home definitely needs a deep clean. Liz, the host was great. And the view from the yard is great. Unfortunately, the home just wasn't a 5 Star experience. You get what you pay for.

Perfect lake house

House had plenty of seating! The host left us body wash, shampoo, conditioner and sunscreen! Also, had coffee and sugar along with plenty of of other basics to help us enjoy our stay. The neighbors are all friendly. We enjoyed walking around. The dock was perfect to secure the jet ski. Boat ramp was easy to find and use!

Perfect Lake House

We came down from upstate NY for winter break to enjoy a peaceful get away & see FL for the first time. Liz was amazing to work with between the early check-in, any questions we had, & the thoughtful gift she had left on the counter for us of roasting sticks and marshmallows. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaying time. The sunrises & sunsets were beautiful, the fishing was great!

Quiet Lakefront Home

We enjoyed our stay at Liz’s place. We stayed for an entire month. She has done a nice job with decorating a modest home. It was very quiet with tons of birds, especially raptors, and other wildlife, which was our favorite part. The kitchen is a bit limited for people who cook all their meals from scratch like we do but I’m sure it’s not an issue for the typical guest. Very nice pans. There is limited storage inside or hooks to hang robes, towels, etc., but a good sized entry space WITH a washer and dryer! I would suggest some more comfortable furniture for long stays. The dock is very sturdy and long with seating at the end. The sunsets are AMAZING! A highlight of every evening! Liz was always easy to reach. The negatives were out of the owners control. The lake had an algae bloom during our entire stay and the area is rife with people dumping unwanted/overbred dogs. We ran into a few of them on our twice daily walks…sometimes it was fine and others not so much. I helped get two of the dogs to a shelter but was unable to help the rest. This is a good location for a shorter stay. Very peaceful. We enjoyed it.
