Wooden house in a quiet location on the edge of the forest. Nice view of the forest edge from the window. Very quiet access road at the back. For walking enthusiasts, you can take a beautiful walk from the house through the forest and along the Oich River and the house is within walking distance of a stage of the Great Glenway. From the holiday home, Glencoe, Skye, Culloden and the beautiful Scottish landscape are easily accessible by car (more than an hour). Fort Augustus seemed mainly focused on mainstream tourism. In October it is almost extinct in the evening. Loch Ness is and remains beautiful. We stayed in Wildwood in the fall and found the house (upon arrival) very cold. The first evening there was no hot water from the tap. Information in the home was not clear about this. Inquiry with owner was clear. The furnishings of the house are basic. Necessities such as dishwasher tablets, coffee (not a coffee machine), tea and garbage bags are also measured or not available, so keep that in mind. Apart from that, we are grateful that we were able to enjoy a week's stay at Wildwood wooden house in the forest in this very beautiful country. Thank you for your review - Wildwood is set within the forest of Auchterawe and consequently is somewhat remote, yet at the same time only a 10min drive to the local village of Fort Augustus. Our housekeeper does set the heating prior to the arrival of guests and she also leaves firewood and kindling for the first night. There can of course be the occasional hiccup, which in this instance was resolved quickly with a phone call. The furnishings of the house are far from basic (please read other reviews), unfortunately we cannot cater for everyone's perception. A few dishwasher tablets are left for the first night only, after all, this is a self catering facility where the guests need to bring their own supplies. If we were to supply everything for guests then our costs would increase and our prices would need to go up to cover the items. We strive to keep Wildwood affordable for all. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Wildwood in the future.

Wildwood was a great base for us to explore around Loch Ness to the north and as far south as Loch Lochy. The house itself is rustically furnished and offers enough space for 7 people. In the evening you can end the day on comfortable sofas in the living area. We had a pleasant time! Hi Stuart, thank you for your review, good or bad helps us be better. I'll pass your concerns on to the housekeeper with regards to cleaning. Haven't been notified about the bench, will get the housekeeper to check this out also and will replace as necessary. There are a number of silver/grey folding chairs in the Boot Room for guests to take outside also. Ray & Laura Review translated We had to worry about this vacation for a long time, but Scotland just relaxed the restrictions in time. We were not disappointed. Wildwood is just outside of Fort Augustus, a small town on Loch Ness, within easy walking distance. The house is very pretty, has spacious rooms and is equipped with everything you need. We (two families of three) have all found plenty of space. There are lovely walks and the place is a good starting point for car trips to many places in the Highlands (which are at least as beautiful as you would imagine). We felt very comfortable the two weeks in the house. It corresponds to the photos and the description. Thanks Laura and Ray!
