Amazing
The cabin is clean and neat. April responded promptly even when contacted late at night. Her directions to the property are crucial, google maps will not bring you the right place. Would definitely recommend for a cozy get away in the mountains.

Highland paradise
Absolutely gorgeous property nestled in the woods. Little tricky to find in the dark but well worth the adventure. Definitely print the instructions provided by April. The cabin was clean and well stocked with everything we needed for a week. The hot tub and wood burning stove make for a VERY relaxing stay. Would definitely book again. Thanks for a wonderful week!!

Amazing stay

Explanation to get into the property was confusing and could not get key code to work, had difficult
We had a good time playing games with family, Weather was Blizzard conditions first few days and got so cold negative 4 lost power for few hours and pipes froze so we were without water for 3 and half days. made it a little difficult with cooking and flushing toliets. Lets just say it will be Christmas my kids will never forget.

Good place needs a little
The cabin is in a great location with a bit of a drive, not bad but steep. Nice cabin with bath and good layout. We enjoyed the proximity to Grayson Highlands, West Jefferson and Boone.. Cute cabin with true mountains feel. Washer and dryer always a nice to have even though we didn’t require it. We thought it was a nice place in need of a little attention. Not very bright inside but light bulbs out everywhere including the area at the approach steps. Way too much chemicals in the hot tub. All simple fixes for a great little cabin. We would stay there again and hope the little things are addressed. Sticking doors were also hard to open.

Nice Escape
Great property for an escape to nature. Close to horseback riding and Grayson Highland State Park and the wild ponies. The restaurants in town, mentioned by the host, were great. Enjoyed utilizing my 4wd to get up to the house just because it was fun. Now, know when one up there says close to things, that means everything is about a 25 minute drive. Also, I knew from a previous review that the swimming hole creek was not right outside the door; it is back down at the end of the fun driveway up. I tried my luck at fishing and it was a beautiful location. Daughter enjoyed exploring the creek and my wife enjoyed the beauty. I simply loaded a chair and fishing gear in the truck and parked at the bottom by the creek. Front porch with rocking chairs and Hot Tub was hard to leave!

Escape from the hustle
I loved the ride up to the cabin. The views and winding roads are a sight to behold. The driveway up to the cabin is a rollercoaster ride but with a 4x4 it's not a issue. The cabin itself is comfortable and well taken care of. I was surprised at how good the Internet connection is despite being way out in the woods. I was fortunate to have the space to myself up until the last morning before I departed. Overall I loved my time here and will return.

A Good Mountain Retreat
Overall, I had a lovely time here-just what we needed to start off 2022; relaxed and refreshed, filled with that good ol’ mountain air! This cabin was great! Very clean (minus a few dishes here and there, but nbd-point is there we’re dishes and silverware I didn’t have to bring with me), upstairs beds were comfortable (as were the sofas), firewood was provided to keep warm, and lots of room for the dogs to get their energy out and smell ALL the new smells! Good, easy hiking if you go UP the hill-it levels off a little from the direct incline of the driveway. Pros: open concept, all working appliances (oven/stove, microwave, propane grill with cover, coffee maker, fridge, etc.), and people have clearly left some non-perishable items behind for the next guests to use, such as olive oil, random spices, salt/pepper, so you don’t have to bring or buy most basics as they’re already there. Hot tub was warm and relaxing, not chemically harsh or off putting at all, but smelled of chlorine(if I don’t smell chlorine, I’m not getting in a strange hot tub lol). We didn’t touch any of the kid stuff, but there’s a whole kid corner with assorted toys and things in the loft area, which I’m assuming is great for families with young kids. Nice porch views, etc. Cons: that driveway leading up to the cabins is NO JOKE. We ended up leaving a day earlier than expected as neither my husband nor myself wanted to downhill slalom in our SUV back to the main roads in the rain. She isn’t kidding when she says you need 4WD/AWD. I couldn’t imagine doing that as a commute or on any regular type basis. We left to get groceries one time and then stayed put until we left, as you should do when escaping to the mountains for a weekend. Also, the stream pictured is along the main road, not right outside or even a quick walk away as the ad suggests-I had no desire to fish, so it had no effect on me, but that may be important to know as you’re considering booking. That being said, traversing the area being our biggest and only con, we really enjoyed ourselves and would 100% go back (pending a paved/less Jeep commercial-type driveway :)

So relaxing!
We stayed for a few days after all the Christmas bustle. My boyfriend, dogs, and I had a great time being away from busy life and enjoyed hiking and visiting downtown West Jefferson! We look forward to returning!

We had an enjoyable stay. The cabin is lovely and we enjoyed the hot tub, even though the evening was cold and windy. Appreciate the use of the Subaru, as, yes, the driveway is very steep. Early disclosure would be helpful.

Fun vacation
We had a really good stay. You definitely need a 4 wheel vehicle to get to the cabin. The owner was quick to respond to questions. There were a couple of small things that needed replacing, but the cabin had most of what you need.. Would have been lovely if the tress were cut to see the view.

Amazing Trip!
This cabin is beautiful, as is the property around it! Fishing is wonderful and very accessible for fly rods. The views from the front deck are amazing. Would highly recommend staying at this wonderful place!

Roach Problem
On our first night, we noticed the donuts and pies we purchased were covered in ants. We were able to salvage some items and when I went to stick them in the fridge, I saw a couple of baby roaches. I killed them and didn't think too much of it until I opened the dishwasher later that night and there was a roach party in there! I let the owner know first thing the next morning. At first, she told me I was mistaken, that they were stink bugs. I assured her these were definitely roaches. Within a couple of hours the owner had the pest control lady there. She happened to be staying at the second cabin. She told us the previous renters had mentioned seeing roaches but that the owner didn't believe them because they'd never seen them. The pest lady sprayed, but said she would really need to douse the place when no one was living there to get rid of them. The spaying killed a few of them, but I would say every night we were there, the party in the dishwasher got bigger. The live roaches also started feasting on the dead roaches. We left the sealed snacks we'd brought out on the counter (everything that had been opened was in the fridge) but when I picked up a bag of chips to bring with us on a hike and there were multiple roaches crawling all over it, that's when EVERYTHING went in the fridge. We'd planned a few meals to cook while we were there but that DEFINITELY did not happen. The last night my daughter found a live roach in her bed! In hindsight, we should have left as soon as we noticed there was a problem. Because not only do you have to deal with gross roaches while you're there, you may end up taking them home with you! I started thinking about this while we were packing up. When we got home, we didn't take anything inside--we left it all out on the porch and then my husband and I spent HOURS checking every nook and cranny to make sure there were no roaches. We also washed every single item of clothing we brought, because roaches like to lay eggs in clothing. Needless to say we found TWO roaches in our stuff. I'm just hoping we found them all!!! The next day we spent hours deep cleaning the inside of our car in case any were in there. I told the owner she shouldn't rent it to anyone after us until the problem is resolved. The day before we left, the owner did reimburse us for one night of our stay. At the time, I appreciated it, especially since we had to eat out so much. After finding roaches when we got home, I was not nearly as satisfied.

Thank you for your honest review. Here are the facts: We employ two companies for pest control: 1 for critters and spiders and another for insects. Neither company had found any evidence of roaches in their previous treatments. Additionally, our cleaning crew has never encountered a roach, dead or alive. Unfortunately, you were the first guest to truly alert us to this problem. As such, we immediately requested our pest control company to treat again, which they did during your stay. Immediately after your stay the entire kitchen was taken apart and deep cleaned as well as treated twice by the pest control company. Upon inspection they found this to be a new problem (most likely carried in from a previous guest or groceries) and by the second treatment the problem has been resolved. As a host we strive to provide our guests with an enjoyable and relaxing experience. We apologize that we were not able to provide that for you but feel confident that future guests will be able to stay with us with no further issue.

Beautiful cabin!
We had a lovely stay! We had a little bit of trouble finding the road up to the cabin, as we came in from the opposite direction. After carefully scouting out the area, we finally found the steep road up to the cabin! Luckily, I drive a Subaru Forester so we climbed the hill with no issues. It’s nice that they offer guests a vehicle to access the cabin if needed. The hot tub was lovely, however the chlorine levels were a bit high. Our bathing suits got bleached from the chlorine levels. The wood stove was a wonderful addition. It was a lovely weekend getaway for my fiancé and I, & we would definitely come back!

Amazing cabin and property
Great getaway! The hospitality, the property owner went above and beyond anything I could’ve ever hoped for. The cabin was cozy and clean even stocked with board games. We loved the hot tub and the grille on the deck for cooking! The stream at the bottom of the hill had the best trout fishing I’ve ever experienced. We caught a ton of rainbow trout and Brooke trout. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone who want to get away. The view is beautiful and we can’t wait to get back!

Peaceful weekend
We loved the peace and quite and being able to hear the river below near the entrance to the property. All accommodations were as shown and just really enjoyed the long weekend. We didn’t have to use them but thought it was pretty cool they offered two vehicles to access the property due to the grade of the drive. Thanks for sharing the property with us. We love the area !!

One of my Favorite Mountain Cabins Ever!
We have stayed at a lot of mountain cabins over the years including this one twice. This cabin is one of my favorites! It is very well built and equipped for a small family. Owners communicate well and are very friendly. The driveway itself is even fun! There are also very cool hiking trails right behind the cabin that we enjoy every stay. It is also a short drive to West Jefferson downtown for shopping/ restaurants. We love it here!

Priced Right!
The cabin is cute and secluded! The hot tub on the deck was a hit with the kids, and helped fill in any downtime. The only "ding" to my review was that, based on pictures and listing of acres of land, it seemed there would be lots of space that was accessible for my tweens to explore on their own. In reality, there is only a very short trail from the cabin that was safe for the kids to explore on their own - the rest of the land is not manicured (lots of very tall grass and rough terrain for snakes, etc.) I did know from a review that the creek would not be near - which would have been disappointing, had I not seen that review ... you'll need to drive down if you have kids or anyone who wouldn't be able to hike a very steep hill. BUT if you know all this, you will be pleased with your stay! Clean and a fun layout with the loft, it is also a close jaunt to Mt. Jefferson and Greyson Highlands - I highly suggest both.

They are correct about steep drive way 4x4 required glad we brought ours. We also used the gas grill every night !! I would definitely stay again.

Situated for privacy
As described, the driveway is steep and is not for the faint at heart. Thankfully the property owners have two AWD/4x4 vehicles you can use to make it up the driveway. The cabin was quaint and tucked back in the woods. It was stocked with clean linens, cooking utensils and laundry supplies. The cabin itself could use a good sweeping, dusting, and cleaning of cabinets and fridge. We enjoyed the hot tub very much. Access to the creek is down that steep driveway so don't plan on taking some drinks down and making a fire unless you have a DD or are OK with walking back up to the cabin. I'd recommend this cabin to anyone who really wants to relax and enjoy nature around you.

Relaxing and Rejuvenating
It was very nice and clean upon arrival. The cabin was beautiful. My husband and I loved the property. Our children loved the toys in the loft. April was very tentive to our requests and questions. It was hard to find because our GPS took us in from a different way. If it wasn't for that we could have went straight to it by the directions that was left by April. Thank you so so much for the oppertunity to get a way for a few days. We really enjoyed our stay!

Great Weekend Getaway
This cabin was great for a couple with kids. Although, I will add that parents with younger kids should keep in mind wood stove and propane heater are easily accessible to young fingers. The view off the deck and the seclusion was great! We definitely agree with property owner and other visitors as you will need awd or 4wd to access the cabin. Perfect little getaway and will definitely return!

A cozy cabin with "themed" holiday items (V-day)
We really enjoyed our stay at Grassy Creek last weekend! It was so nice to check in and have the Valentines Day candy waiting for us along w/ the kitchen themed decorations. Comfortable bed and we enjoyed the hot tub! My only advice is to arrive in DAY LIGHT if at all possible - the directions from Owner were really good (PRINT IN ADVANCE) but we still missed a few turns in the dark.

Hard to find. Can't see anything in the shed coming from the direction we did. Some solar lights at the bottom of the driveway would have been helpful. Didn't have a phone number to call. Once we found it, it was fabulous! Very beautiful and nicely decorated for the holidays. Would definitely stay again.

A comfortable, relaxing mini-vacation
We loved this cabin! Before I say more, I'm glad I read the previous reviews re: the driveway. I've driven many hairy mountain roads, but this was the steepest. My AWD Mazda CX-5 and my daughter's AWD Subaru Legacy did ok. Luckily it was dry when we arrived. I wouldn't have wanted to drive it in the rain. Be sure to keep momentum, do not stop. The weather was pleasant the first day or so, and the sunny porch was warm and inviting in the afternoon. Even the rains that arrived later didn't dampen (ha) our pleasure. We read and played Monopoly then. My dog and I walked down to the Helton Creek "beach" one morning, and it was beautiful and serene. And a good workout going back up! The living room was comfortable, and the kitchen was large enough for us to work in without stepping on each other. The main bedroom was good-sized, and the bed was great. The loft is quite large and has 2 double beds, a sofa, and a TV. The gas heater in the dining area kept the cabin comfortably warm. We did fire up the woodstove the 2nd night, and it was almost too warm given how mild the nighttime temps were. The dogs loved hiking with us. There's a cabin right next door, but the occupant(s) was very quiet. Except for seeing a vehicle a couple times, we'd never have known anyone was there. The ladybugs were plentiful at this time of year (we didn't mind that), and so were the deer ticks. Maybe because the weather has been so warm? We checked ourselves and the dogs after every trip outside and always found at least one on one or more of us. Be alert. It looks like the weather is changing tonight, so hopefully this won't be an issue for guests the rest of the season. Thanks, April, for the use of your pretty cabin!

We had the BEST time! It was a little hard to find but that’s probably our fault for getting there so late. So quiet and peaceful!! Cabin was beautiful and the hot tub felt so good after long days of shopping and the cold night air!
