Beachfront living at its best and only a 5 minute walk from town.

The property has been remodelled with love and charm and is full of homely touches matched with a modern boutique kiwi beachfront bungalow. There is many a nook to enjoy through the house, a cosy lounge and open plan entertaining in the modern newly installed kitchen and dining.

With a fully fenced property this is the perfect space for sharing with the wee ones and a safe outdoor indoor flow. The property has hi speed fibre wifi and is a great space to work remotely from.

The feature we know will be everyone’s favourite escape to watch the hours roll by will have to be the large double swing on the balcony with a view to relax and revive.

More than restoring a character house, Sheldon and Cass’ design and build journey has been about discovering how to connect the dwelling to the incredible Tasman Sea on their doorstep. Ways to enhance the overall experience and let the nature flow through the property, framing both the moon rising and the ever present amazing sun sets we are famous for.

Secondly and very importantly, how to raise a child on the edge of a vista so wild and beautiful while making sure equal amounts of freedom and safety are equally abundant. The playpen and fire cove has to be the envy of not only every children but adults alike.

Look carefully and you will find a Kāhu (NZ Hawk) keeping watch over you from the Macrocarpa tree in the beach garden.

Sunset Retreat is only 5 mins drive in a car or taxi from Hokitika airport.
From Christchurch - It is a 3.5 hour stunning drive over the Alps through Arthur"s Pass.
From Nelson - It is a 5 hour drive along an amazing coastal road.
From Queenstown - It is a 7 hour drive through ever changing scenery.


The property sleeps seven over three double suites, one featuring a double bed with single bunk above. Lovingly created with west coast rimu cladding and beautiful linens, this stunning escape is only viable on limited occasion, usually school holidays, for you , your family and friends to enjoy. We invite you to come and understand the beauty and power of the west coast and why you’ll never want to leave.

Yes, we are dog friendly and understand the joy is is to travel with your pooch but please make sure to note this on your reservation, they are special guests too. With respect to our role as guardians of our owners properties, we love to welcome pets that are well behaved, quiet and sleep on their own beds please.

Please note the stairs in all images. There are stairs to access the property and a step onto the lawn and internal stairs. This property is sadly not suitable for a wheelchair or people that may have trouble with stairs.
