Excellent facilities, helpful staff, rooms cleaned before you arrive, and a beach only a 10 minute walk away, make for a pleasant, relaxing stay. Then there are the swimming pools and jacuzzi, great for cooling down after a frantic day sightseeing.

In the evening, if you want to stay in, you can relax in the air-conditioned living area and thumb through the supplied guide books to work out what you want to do on the morrow. You can catch up with your friends using the free wifi, or simply watch the news or a movie on TV .

The kitchenette has all you need, from a toaster to a microwave and induction cooker. Don't feel like cooking? There's the restaurants just down the road, while the fabled night market is short bus ride away. Highly recommended for the vegans and vegetarians amongst us. There are also several schools where you can learn to cook Thai food and sample your creations, too.

If you feel like the delights of western-style shopping, there are two shopping malls south of the centre, and again within easy reach by bus, or by the legendary tuk-tuk taxis.

Then there are the activities designed for the fitter amongst us, such as cycling, kayaking and sailing. Hua Hin also has its share of noteworthy tourist areas suitable for all age groups, which include one of the king's palaces, some stunning Wats, and the old railway station. The elephant sanctuary too is worth a visit as are the vineyards in the hills above the town.
