Cristian was a great host with lots of knowledge of the local parks, restaurants, tours. They manage a property with maybe 10 units. You get house cleaning every other day, and the unit is nice and clean. A few things are a little banged up, like one of the dressers was broken, but overall it was great. The security guards are very friendly, and the place and city feel very safe. We didn't have any troubles.
About Costa Rica, one thing we got tripped up on was the departure tax of $30/person. We flew out American Airlines and it's included in the ticket. We asked the lady at the counter. We couldn't get a ticket break down for proof but in the end it didn't seem to matter when we were at the airport. Might be standard in all tickets now. The rental cars are way more than you think because you have to buy the insurance per day. Ours was an extra $52 a day. Maybe check in with your insurance provider to see what they could do for you before time. The rental was $120 for a week, but then the insurance added $400. There are shuttle services that might be cheaper in the long run especially if there are only 2 of you. Jaco itself is very walkable and all the tours provide transportation.
