It’s been there since 1860, so has natural limitations in terms of modern facilities, and in many ways is all the better for it. My room was quirky, but reasonably comfortable, but the heating is variable and there’s no TV (although the WiFi is fine).
The archaic floor layout reflects the age of the building, but the excellent food quality and ambience around the log fireplaces more than compensates. If you like great food with every ingredient explained to you, you will love it. The wine list is a revelation, as is the sommelier service.
Breakfast, however, is a real let down - stuff left in heaters with just eggs/omelettes available to order, and after the grandeur of dinner it’s underwhelming.
I stayed one night and it was an experience; next time might be dinner only.
