Highlights: If your stay wish list includes starting your day with a steam shower under aged timber, having coffee on a stone patio surrounded by butterflies, shopping in a boutique town, lazy reading in front of a massive roaring fire, cooking in a chefs kitchen, and ending the evening in a soaking tub listening to your favorite music, all while cocooned in an historic stone cottage, then this is absolutely the home for you.
The construction of The Tavern was started in 1680, and while the house and itsâ county have evolved and grown since, the place hasnât lost its purpose as a welcoming respite from the world. One of its most famous rumored regular visitors was George Washington, who said âPerseverance and spirit have done wonders in all agesâ and so it is with this home and its owners.
A careful and loving restoration has happened over the last four years and the end results are stunning! Hidden technology and utilities like radiant heated floors, a Sonos sound system, and concealed mood lighting are the thoughtful touches that make staying at this home a truly gorgeous experience. It must be noted though, that its position, while convenient for the travelers of olde, means that for todayâs guest, itâs on a busy road (we provide a sound machine and ear plugs if needed).
Two chimneys anchor each end of the main level gathering spots. A super elongated sofa, perfect for napping, sits across from the fireplace. Behind one of the beautiful beams is a hidden projector screen, making for a memorable movie night.
Across on the other side of the main floor is the dining area. Another huge fireplace and a beautiful generous table are the main accents here. While the house sleeps a very limited number of people, it would make a lovely spot for hosting a dinner party for friends.
Upstairs is the principal bedroom suite, with vaulted ceilings, supported by beautiful 300 year old timber. Spacious and creatively furnished, with its own sitting area with tv and luxury bathroom, this is the ultimate cocoon within a cocoon. The bathroom has a steam shower and heavenly Aesop products.
For lunch or dinner, the 15 minutes to Kingston will get you into the areas best restaurants or just a little further north, 20 minutes to Woodstock. Or take advantage of the homesâ well stocked kitchen, where the professional grade appliances and cozy seating will no doubt contribute to the makings of many great meals.
The kitchen area has french doors to the stone patio, brining a fourth entertaining space into the fold. There is also a Dutch door in the mud room - ideal for when you would like fresh air but want to keep a little one or pup inside.
The lovely garden has a west facing stone patio (perfect for evening cocktails) with bistro seating and an adorable fireplace with Adirondack chairs.
The Tavern is so named because at one time in its history it was a stopping point on the thoroughfare used by travelers. The road, Rt 209, is still a busy road to this day. Itâs important for guests to know that while much of the Hudson Valley is bucolic and peaceful and made up of farmland and hillside, this particular property is on a road which sees traffic throughout the day. Those seeking a quiet experience may well be suited to a different property.
Like all Upstate Place properties, this home has a pack nâ play, highchair, baby bath etc. available to make even the smallest guestâs stay welcoming and easy.
The Tavern would ideally suit a single traveler, couple or a couple with a small child / children vacationing together.

As stated in the listing, this house is located on Route 209, the main thoroughfare between the village of Stone Ridge and the city of Kingston. It can be a busy road. While many homes Upstate are in the woods or up mountains, this isnât one of them. We provide a sound machine and ear plugs for those that may want them.
Utility Outages: As Upstate New York can see itsâ fair share of inclement weather and is primarily a tree rich area with overhead power lines, please know we do not assume responsibility for utility outages during your stay. If electric, water or Wi-Fi service is impacted, we do not refund. Of course, if an outage were to persist for longer than 8 hours we would allow a cancellation without penalty.
Weather: During the winter months, there may be ice, snow, and hazardous conditions. We recommend driving a vehicle with AWD or 4WD. Please ask about the plowing schedule for the house. Most driveways are plowed at or before 3â of accumulation.
Animals and Pests: The house is in a rural environment and surrounded by countryside, farms and wildlife. Although itâs wonderful to observe the eagles, deer, bears, and adorable chipmunks, it can also mean you will hear coyotes and foxes at night, and encounter the less cute mice, flies, snakes, ants, bees and ticks. There is very little to be done about it, but by keeping doors closed or screened and food in its appropriate storage, unwelcome guests will stay outside where they belong. All our properties benefit from scheduled pest control, but we are in a natural environment and we can not fortify the houses completely.
Cleaning Guarantee: We are very proud of our housekeeping team who go above and beyond. Because of their hard work and high professional standards, we are able to guarantee our cleaning to our guests. We take time stamped video and photos of the cleaned property and do not refund for any small issues found during a stay. Instead, should a guest feel that something is amiss or needs additional attention, we will gladly have a housekeeper attend the home to take care of it within 12 hours of an issue being reported.
This home may have weekly lawn and trash services as well as monthly pest control service. Service providers may access the exterior front yard and back yard during your stay to ensure the home is properly maintained.
Rental Agreement: Please know that we require all guests to sign a rental lease agreement.
This house has two levels and may not be suitable for guests who donât wish to use stairs.
Additional Fees: Depending on their requirements, guests will be subject to the following additional fees
Pets - $75 per pet per stay
