My friend and I were visiting Sulphur for a race. We decided on the Motel 6, being that all of the pictures posted online looked as if it had been newly refurbished. It was also an inexpensive choice, and since we were in town for only one night, we simply needed a place to rest our head before race day.
Upon arrival, things seemed relatively fine. We checked in at the front (where we were charged an alleged refundable $100 incidental fee). We made our way back outside and up the stairs to the second floor to our room, and that’s where the immediate regret set in. Upon unpacking, we noticed our microwave was open and had obviously, recently been used. The bathtub was stained with black mold and the towels in the bathroom were damp (I am hoping from not being dried well after washing, but who knows). There appeared to be remnants of vomit left in the sink, food stains on the bed sheets, and the main event was a brown splatter/smudge on the wall next to the bed, wherein I can assume landed there due to previous patrons getting a little too freaky deeky in the sheets.
While I understand one must not expect too much from an establishment called a “motel”, I do believe it is not unreasonable to expect basic human decency and cleanliness. Maybe I can use the refunded $100 to go toward an STD panel after spending a night in such a questionable, unclean setting.
