I am sorry to say that this was a situation of someone not doing their due diligence to ensure the space was appropriate to meet their personal needs. During our initial communication Dolores stated her husband "has mobility issues", which can mean many, many different things. At no point did she mention he was entirely dependent on a wheelchair to get to and into the unit. She asked if there were steps to get to the unit or steps inside the unit. And although there are no steps to get to the unit or into the unit itself, I did say there is one low step up to get onto the deck and a grassy slope going down to the unit....a slope, most definitely not an embankment or a hill. I went further than trying to describe it...I sent her detailed pictures showing exactly what the access looked like...to which she replied, "great, I am booking now". If she had told me the only way for him to get to the unit was in a wheelchair, I would have most certainly advised against it...as my unit is not advertised as wheelchair accessible. Also, my description does in fact state it is a walk out basement, so this should not have been a surprise....and we have rented to many seniors with no issues. And as for being unavailable when she wanted me to call her, I was on a plane at the time...but communicated via the app (as is the policy) as soon as I could. Given their abrupt exit, I knew it would prove difficult to try and re rent the space on such short notice but did offer to refund for the remaining unused days if I did get it rented...to which she replied, "thank you for your help". I even went as far as posting it on several social media groups to try and get it rented. When I personally rent a place, I thoroughly read the description, examine photos carefully and ask important questions if something is unclear, especially if I have very specific needs...such as needing it to be wheelchair accessible. In the past I have given refunds for many reasons...hurricanes, snowstorms and someone actually showing up a week early when they booked the wrong dates (and then finding them a new rental). But in this case I feel as though I fulfilled my responsibility by given a very detailed description/photos and answering questions based on the information she gave me, which did not include even the mention of a wheelchair.
