SugarSkull Retreat is a fully renovated 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment located just a 2-minute walk from Mass Street, placing you close to Lawrence’s best dining, shopping, and local attractions. Thoughtfully designed with subtle Sugar Skull–inspired artwork, the space blends personality and comfort while remaining calm, clean, and easy to enjoy year-round.

Inside, both bedrooms feature comfortable queen beds with quality linens and ample storage for a relaxing stay. The living area is spacious and inviting, with a soft couch, a 60-inch smart TV, and Sonos surround sound, making it a great place to unwind after a day out.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, dishes, and essentials for everyday meals or takeout from nearby restaurants. Complimentary coffee and tea are provided to start your mornings with ease. While there is no traditional dining table, the layout works well for casual dining and relaxed evenings in.

The apartment is professionally cleaned before every stay and prepared to look exactly like the photos, so you can arrive with confidence. Guests also enjoy ample parking, including space suitable for larger vehicles.

The location is one of the home’s biggest highlights. Being just steps from Mass Street means you can easily walk to restaurants, shops, and entertainment, while the University of Kansas and Rock Chalk Park are only a short drive away.

Guests have full, private access to the apartment. This is a self-service stay designed to provide independence and privacy, with support available if needed. Messages are monitored daily between 7 AM and 9 PM, and we respond promptly to help ensure a smooth experience.

A few things to note: the apartment is split-level and requires navigating seven stairs to access the unit. As with many multi-unit buildings, occasional footsteps from the apartment above may be heard. Minimal neighborhood noise is possible due to the central location, and earplugs are provided for light sleepers.

Great little 2 bed apartment on a lovely little college town street. So much older architecture to see there. Beds were comfortable, and living space was sufficient. We even had enough hot water for 4 girls and one bathroom! Parking was not an issue, especially if you use the alley.

Location is amazing if you are going to downtown Lawrence. An easy walk to concerts or shopping. Got back around midnight the first night and the CO detector was beeping low battery. I sent them a message and within 30 minutes a replacement battery was by the door. I wasn’t expecting that in the middle of the night. I feel the host really cares about the comfort and happiness of their guests and that is greatly appreciated.

It was a nice place, the air worked really well. It was easy to find and get into. Just didn’t know it was a down stairs apartment, so it was a little different being somewhat under ground. But over all it was a nice stay. Would recommend it to other who Ned a place to stay

The sugar skull apartment was very comfortable and clean. Ned’s were so comfy. We were passing through from a week trip and this place was the perfect fit for me and my husband. The only thing I would say that needs to be addressed is the main door to get in the complex needs to be fixed.

Perfect location. Will stay here again!

Property is clean and comfortable and the photos are accurate. Parking is a breeze and getting into the unit is also simple. Communication with the property manager was fast and efficient. Mattresses in both rooms were wonderful. The sheets and comforters were soft and high quality. The kitchen is well stocked with lots of spices, oil, coffee and tea. We will stay here again the next time we are in Lawrence!

Simple and convenient spot
