We were very surprised by the high ratings and “exceptional” descriptions in the listing. They were responsive to our messages and check in was easy, but we would not stay at this place again.
The photos were accurate but the apartment could use some sprucing up (ie, paint, chipped tiles, etc). We had a toilet that didn’t flush properly, and was a continued problem throughout the night.
The only a/c unit (located in the bedroom) wasn’t sufficient for cooling down the entire place, or even keeping the bedroom cool that night (with door closed). Both of these issues were mentioned to the owner/manager the morning we left.
A big concern for us was the area. You could describe it as “transitional”—an older area with homes that have “potential”. This place looked ok from the outside, but neighboring properties were concerning. Some homes boarded up; some with windows falling off or cardboard/plastic covering glass; some very run down; some overrun with lots of junk in the yards, etc. It didn’t just look like a neighborhood that was on the mend. Some homes were being improved, but it was a small percentage. The majority of the street and neighborhood wasn’t nice.
For us, it was more a concern about safety.
We weren’t allowed to use the parking spots at the house. We were told we had to leave our car on the street, which we did. But we were concerned for the safety of the car overnight.
We were very surprised this was not mentioned in any previous reviews.
