Margaree-a-ville Cottage

Welcome to our lovely cottage on top of Xavier Hill with beautiful views of Margaree Harbour and the Margaree Valley. The 26 acre property is a beautiful mix of meadows and forest. We've done extensive renovations to the cottage featuring new pine wood interiors, new light fixtures, new windows and vinyl flooring. Kitchen has new full size appliances, sinks, countertops and cabinets. It's fully equipped with a microwave, toaster oven, dishes, pots and pans, and more. The bathroom has new large walk-in shower with rain-head shower head and wand, new sink and cabinet. There's a queen bed and a double bed in the 2 cozy bedrooms and there is a private den with an oak roll top desk and a single size daybed. Fresh linen, towels, pillows and blankets are supplied. The cabin has all the comforts of home with high speed internet, WIFI and 50" Smart TV. There is excellent cell phone reception. The well water is filtered and softened. Each room has its own electric heat and there is a new wood burning stove in the large open family room. A bright covered sun room complements the wrap around decked patio. Outdoor fireplace is also available for evening get togethers around the fire. Come and hit a few golf balls off our professional 4x5 golf mat. It's about 100 yards to the flag (see photo). Take an easy hike to the river on our marked trail. The air is sweet and fresh. This is a great place to stay and enjoy the peaceful countryside and visit the many restaurants, stores, golfing, beaches, hiking & fishing spots along the Cabot Trail.

Our experience at Gus & Gert's cottage was memorable. They are warm, kind, welcoming and helpful hosts. The cabin is perfectly located, well equiped and quite spacious for a small family. We could not have wished for a better place to stay in Cape Breton!

We had a wonderful stay. Pictures do not do the place justice. The deck area was perfect. It was raining on and off while we were there and the gazebo canopy was a pleasant and much appreciated surprise. David was fantastic at responding when I had any questions. I would definitely stay again!

Gus and Gert made us feel extremely welcome from the off. The cabin was well-equipped, cosy and set in a quiet, idyllic location. We were in striking distance of Inverness beach, the gypsum mine pool, and Baddeck was only a short drive away for the Bell museum. There is so much to see and do here, but the cabin is such a pull that makes it difficult to need to go anywhere else! We will definitely return here.

A lovely and private cottage. We absolutely enjoyed the scenic views. The hosts were responsive to our requests. Although there is no AC, the nights cooled and we slept comfortably.

Amazing cabin, beautiful property

Our stay in Margaree was absolutely perfect! The little cabin was spotless and had everything we needed. Gus and Gert were friendly and very kind and welcoming. We have rented other places in the area and this was by far our favourite. The property is gorgeous and a short drive from many beautiful spots. Don’t hesitate to book!

Above and Beyond

Gert and Gus are the most welcoming and helpful hosts! We were so grateful for the gorgeous welcome basket, the contents of which we were able to enjoy for the entirety of our trip. The little cottage is absolutely enchanting, with its beautiful location, perched high on a hill with commanding views from every side. The walk down to the river through the beautiful forest is not to be missed! The stars at night are absolutely beautiful from this location, too. You will have everything that you need, and more, in this idyllic retreat. I’ll highly recommend a stay here, with the best hosts that you could hope to meet!

Beautiful Margaree River property

We had the most wonderful time staying at Gus and Gert’s. Their cabin was perfect for our family as there was lots of outdoor space for our kids to play and everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. We loved hiking down the well-maintained trail to the river to fish, as well as play the golf hole on the property. Gus and Gert were outstanding hosts - the friendliest people you will meet. We would highly recommend this property and hope to come back again!

Best views in Margaree!

You can see both the river valley and the harbour from "Margaree-a-ville"! It was beautiful. We had fun testing our golf skills, and enjoying the quiet. Gus and Gert's place had EVERYTHING we needed for an awesome weekend at the cottage! Thank you!

Beautiful cottage

Highly recommend this place! Gus and Gert were wonderful hosts, so friendly and incredibly kind. The views (yes, plural!) were stunning and the location was perfect – close to the ocean, close to the Cabot Trail, close to amenities. The cottage was lovely, super clean and had everything we needed and then some. Will definitely come back again.

Fabulous Spot!

We had the most wonderful stay at Gert and Gus’s place in Margaree Harbour! From the moment we arrived, they gave us such a lovely welcome and were incredibly helpful with suggestions for things to do in the area. The location couldn’t be better -perfect for exploring Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the many gorgeous local beaches (and there are so many to choose from!). We loved using the driving range and taking our morning walk to the river for a float/dip.The place is even better than the photos - with stunning views in every direction: the valley and river on one side, the ocean on the other. Our teenagers (15 and 16) had a fantastic time, too. This place truly made us fall in love with the area, and we will definitely be back. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Cape Breton!

Beautiful property in the hills and woods

The couple that own the property were there to welcome us to the separate guest house. VERY welcoming and effusive couple. House was exactly as described and was very clean. A beautiful walk through the woods down to the river. Delightful gift basket on arrival of local goods. Everything you want for a local authentic experience.

Great time at Margaree-a-ville

My wife and I spent 9 fantastic days at Gus's and Gert's cottage in Margaree Harbor. The location for Cape Breton activities is perfect and the views from the deck are breath taking. All the comforts of home in an impeccably furnished, well appointed home away from home. Gus and Gert are wonderful and warm hosts who aim to please. We highly recommend Margaree-a-ville and hope to return soon. "It's A Slam Dunk!"

Simply AMAZING!

My young family had the best time at Gus and Gerts! I can’t say enough good things about our experience. We truly felt at home here - the cabin had everything you would need plus little extras. Their attention to detail was so appreciated, especially with little ones in tow. We cannot wait to come back for not only another stay in the cabin, but to see Gus and Gert. They are two of the nicest people we have met, so responsive and so kind with us and our 2 little kids. Anyone would be lucky to stay at their cabin!
