We cannot understand this review and have never received a review that was one minute praising us for being good hosts and then telling all the things that she did not have for the visit. We sent her our telephone number and explained to her that we lived only 5 minutes from the rental house and would be there to help them any time---day or night. VRBO has a record of this conversation. We have someone who does the cleaning and another person who fixes anything that might be torn up. After she left this review, we called our repair person. Fred went with him to the house and there was nothing wrong with the heating. We suggested to her that if she had not liked the water, she could have bought what she liked to drink in town. Fred is a retired Enviromental Engineer and has been retired for over 20 years. His job for this area was to make sure that the water supply was safe for consumption along with many other areas in Virginia. Our neighbor now has this job and we are sure that he is doing a good job. We have sufficient cooking equipment in the kitchen to cook anything you would like to cook. If you will look back over some of our reviews, you will see that we had guests who cooked most all of their meals at our rental house with no problems. Thank you for your review. I do not understand why you rated me with 4 stars with you saying in your review all the nice things about the house. The house reflects the time that we lived in the house plus you were able to see all the pictures of the bedrooms, dinning area, living room, and den. We raised our 2 children in this house and we had plenty of room for them. After my mother moved into our house because of having Alheizmer's, we moved her into the bedroom with 2 beds because she needed to be next to our bedroom. My office was located in that bedroom before my mother moved to our house. I designed this kitchen to have everything at my finger tips because I was a career person and did not have a lot of time to prepare meals, so every minuted counted in my day. Also, you had FREE Fire Wood, which most vacation rentals do not furnish, plus coffee, sugar, creamer, and several other items in the cabinet. I am sorry about having 4 steps that someone has to climb to reach the main floor of this house. This house is a split level house but we do not rent the downstairs. If he had just asked me, he could have driven his car around to the back part of the house. There are only 2 steps to use to access the deck. The deck is attached to the dining room, so he could have used that entrance. He asked me about a grab bar in the bathroom and I told him that we had a grab bar plus a shower with 2 seats in it for someone to sit on while taking a shower. That is the only thing he asked me about before booking. Again, I am sorry but I could not help him with his problem since I did not know he had a problem.

Nathan contacted me and asked to check-in 2 hours earlier than our normal check-in time. I told him that would be o.k. My husband and I had gone out for dinner and upon arrival at our house (which is less than a mile from the vacation rental) found that our Electricity plus our Internet Service was not working because of a storm, which had blown through our area knocking down poles for the Internet, Phone as well as Power Lines. There were 5 AEP trucks sitting next to our driveway when we arrived home to work on getting the problems fixed. I told them they would have to wait for me to take my renters oil lamps for them to not be sitting in the dark, before I could get our locking gate open (by unlocking the cylinders with a key). My husband went with me to our vacation rental and upon arrival noticed that there were 6 people at the house instead of the 5 that was booked by Nathan. We have lived in this neighborhood for over 40 years and know our neighbors very well. The neighbors said that sometime after 12 o'clock that night, our driveway was full of cars. I only found this out yesterday. Nathan and his guests had completely filled 1 extra large trash can liner and 1/2 of another trash can liner full of beer cans. I know that 5 people could never have consumed that much beer in 2 nights. They had used all 5 beds plus the two couches for people to sleep on. We had a Solar Powered Light outside near the front sidewalk, which was mounted onto the house. They broke this off of it's attachment. If they had asked, we would have brought this into the house for them. Also, they left a mess in the sink for my housekeeper to clean up. AEP restored the Electrical Power by 5 a.m. Saturday morning. Our Phone and Internet was not restored until yesterday morning, because of this storm, and I cannot predict the weather in advance. If you will check my listing, you will find that I never promise anyone free wood for the fire pit. I hope no one ever books with this person again, if they want to not have a big mess, plus have our neighbors upset with a party going on next door. This neighborhood is made up with people who have children plus people who are retired. We respect our neighbors and they respect us. Fred & Carol Kaurish, Owners

Thank you for your review. I appreciate that very much. Sorry about the wood, but we just do not have the time to pick up wood for our renters. We offer a very good price for a large house, so we figure the people visiting can pick up their own wood or we have some people who bring it from their own home. I know the kitchen is small but we lived in that house while our children were growing up. When my children were growing up, I worked very long hours and did not have a lot of time to fix meals, etc. so I wanted everything at my fingertips in order to not waste time in a large kitchen. Thank you for your review. I am sorry about the knives not being sharp. Most of our guests have small children and leaving really sharp knives in the kitchen can be dangerous. In the future, I would suggest that if someone wants sharp knives that they bring them from their house and then they can then return the knife to their house. We try to be very responsible hosts to all of our guests, but especially when they have children. The kitchen is not really large but everything is very close, so you do not have to run around in circles looking for what you need. I (Carol) designed this kitchen myself, when we built this house years ago. I was a career person, who did a lot of traveling and did not have time to waste, so I wanted everything handy for my use, plus those who stayed at our house to do the cooking and cleaning. Thank you for staying with us. I am sorry about the neighbor's dog barking but in this area almost everyone has dogs. They are great for letting you know if you have maybe unwanted visitors. The people who own the dog are very good neighbors and we are glad they live next to our house. Come visit us again and just so you do not hear the dog, bring some ear plugs. Thank you for your stay at A Hemlock Haven Vacation Rental. I am sorry that you were unhappy with our driveway. We have had in the last year people who have stayed there who parked a Motor Home plus maybe 5 cars in the driveway with no problems. Also, one group of people parked a Panton Boat plus several cars in the driveway with no trouble. We lived in that house while our children were growing up. We loved to have people to join us to celebrate different Holidays so we would have maybe 10 or more cars to park in the driveway. This year my brother who owns a heavy equipment company came to the house and widened the driveway so that two cars could park side by side. In this area many people have gravel driveways. When people travel to this area they are either looking to ride or hike the trails, boating, or just enjoying the natural beauty that we have in our area. If someone is just looking for pavement, they probably need to visit a city because this is just country here in this area with lots of farms and beautiful mountains to visit or view. Also, I want to address the fire pit. All you have to do is walk a few feet from the house and then you do not have to climb up a tiny little hill to the fire pit. This is the first time I have had someone who was not happy with the fire pit. Like I said we our country and we are not remote. It takes maybe 10 minutes to be into town and I would not call that remote. You can check to see how many people visit this area each year. Have a Happy rest of the year. I am sorry about your experience with the snow but I am going to list the times that I contacted you. On Dec. 2, 2020, I sent an email asking about your time of arrival plus offering you the best directions to the vacation rental. You sent a response on Dec.13, 2020 telling me that your grandson would be staying and was there an additional expense. I replied back to you on Dec. 13, 2020 and told you no we would not charge for him and sent the best directions to travel to the vacation rental. I also explained that we would have the temperature set on 70 but you all could adjust to your needs. On Dec. 26, 2020, you sent an email around 2 p.m. telling me that you were getting on I-81 coming toward the vacation rental. I sent back an email saying that we would look forward to their arrival sometime after 4 p.m. Sometime during the night we had a snow storm to hit our area with record low temperatures. We were fortunate that we had electricity because there was no electricity at our other vacation rental for 24 hours and we had guests staying there at the time. I sent you an email on Dec. 27, 2020 telling you that we would be having someone to come and scrape the driveway plus clean the sidewalks off where it had snowed. Also, I enclosed my private phone number for you to call or you could have sent an email. I never heard back from you so I assumed everything was o.k. We only live about 1/2 of a mile from the vacation home and if there were problems you should have answered my emails. We do keep the basement locked because we have our cleaning items stored in that area plus there is a sign on the door which says Employees Only. Also, on the deck (which was just outside of the dining room door) was located a large trash can that would have held any trash bags for everyone to deposit their trash from the house. I have had large families to stay there for a week and they had no problem with their trash. I do not feel that your complaints were justified because I gave you plenty of opportunities to contact me with any problems you might have had. We have someone who will fix any heat problems for us very quickly. I do not know why the fireplace did not work but if you had contacted us, we would have had that checked out for you.
