You’ll be within easy walking distance of Methven’s cafés, restaurants, bars, supermarket and ski‑shuttle pickup points. The award‑winning Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa are about a 10‑minute walk away. It’s a short drive to Mt Hutt ski area, which boasts a 683 m vertical drop and 365 ha of terrain.
Summer guests can explore mountain‑bike trails at Mt Hutt Bike Park, kayak and paddleboard the Ashburton Lakes, take a jet‑boat ride through the Rakaia Gorge, hike the Methven Walkway, Mt Somers Tracks or play 18 holes at Methven Golf Club.
Character lodge: This is a well-loved ski lodge, comfy but not newly renovated – think relaxed and cosy rather than hotel-perfect.
Guest have full access to main house and private spa pool, Gardens and main house driveway/parking. There is a separate tenanted apartment on the right rear of the property with its own driveway and entrance, however, the main house, spa and lawn are for your exclusive use.
Spa & young children: The spa is unfenced and the log burner has no fire guard, so this home isn’t ideal for toddlers. Please supervise children closely. We service and balance the spa regularly. Guest has access to Chlorine for small daily dosage.
Bunk room: Purpose built with its own wall mounted heater and Oil fin heaters.
Heating & hot water: Log burner in the living area, heaters in all bedrooms. Water heating is via gas.
Self-Catering Property: Well-equipped kitchen with starter supplies (dishwasher tabs, rubbish bags, cloths). As this is a self-catering property, please bring extra or source extra supplies locally. No BBQ at present.
Rubbish & recycling: Bins can fill quickly with large groups. Please take excess recyclables` to the free Methven Recycling Drop-off Facility.
Log burner: You’ll need to light and tend the fire safely yourself, and it heats the house quickly.
No pets; no smoking or vaping. Quiet hours: 10 pm – 7 am.
A car is the easiest way to get here and explore the area – it’s about a 1-hour drive from Christchurch with free off-street parking at the lodge. In ski season you can leave the driving to the locals: Methven Travel and Snowman Shuttles run daily buses between Methven and Mt Hutt with pick-ups around town, and the house is within walking distance of Methven’s cafés, supermarket, Ōpuke Pools and ski-bus pick-up points.

Once your booking is confirmed, you will be directed to fill out our check-in form where you will be required to complete an identity check by scanning your licence/passport before being provided with your arrival instructions. This provides security for the owners of the property so they are comfortable that you are who you say you are and you have the documents to prove it (similar to a hotel check-in procedure). This process is necessary due to the fact that we have a self-check-in system.

- The primary guest making the booking must be at least 25 years old and staying at the property for the duration of the reservation.
