Thanksgiving 2023
This was a perfect location for our stay near our daughter’s farm for the holiday. The host was very responsive. Being close to the General Store rescued us several times. We would consider coming back.

Perfect location, just what I needed
I really enjoyed my time here. Except for a little lock combo snafu at the outset, it was everything I could have hoped for. The little town is cute, I was there for a class at the Folk School and was so close I could walk. Everything was comfortable. Directions were great. The hosts were very accessible and helpful. Enjoyed exploring the area. Will definitely return!

Great Experience
I came here for a quick personal getaway and it was exactly what I was looking for- charming, unique, comfortable, clean and the perfect location. It is a great spot because not a lot of preparation is necessary to stay here. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfortable, and there is a general store a block away with everything you'd need; also a coffee shop and other restaurants. I also went for a hike at William O'brien State park just a few minutes away. The house is super unique and the location doesn't get much better- small town feel in the beautiful historic river valley. Highly recommend.

Cute town
The furniture in place was very uncomfortable. It needs updating, more care, and repairs. Our door was hard to open and there were several trip hazards on the property. If you are just staying a night or two, it's probably tolerable. It did teach me to do more research before signing. We would have left after the first week.

Hello Denise, Thanks for the review. After you booked the unit for your two month stay because you sold your home of 20 years, we reached out to you to come and see the unit to make sure it would work as your temporary home before your move to Florida. We offered to let you cancel but you would not (we were hoping you would as it seemed like you were a complainer by nature about everything). You began with the question, “Why are these cars parked so far apart?” 10 seconds after your arrival. Did it matter? “Is it a smart TV, because we’re smart people” “I can’t get the grill to light”, “When I sit in the dining chair running my business all day it’s uncomfortable”… You win, the worst guest we’ve had in 8 years of vacation rental business. Good luck condo association in Florida.

Great location, spacious, excellent communication with kind hosts!
We were relatively comfortable in our VRBO apartment in Marine on St. Croix. It is a spacious apartment, the kitchen is adequately appointed and it had a good shower with nice towels. This could be a TERRIFIC place but the entry hall needs attention — fresh paint, improved lighting, new carpet and some kind of fumigation to get rid of the musty smell. The BBQ area was completely neglected— the area was overgrown with weeds, the grill was rusty and full of insects. The lighting in the apartment could use some improvement— new brighter lighting fixtures and new window coverings would be welcome. But our primary issue was the bedroom—- it desperately needs new carpeting, new window coverings, and a new mattress. Every time one moves in the bed, it squeaks and creeks. The bed linens could use an update too. That being said, it could be a wonderful place and we’d return if attention were paid to our specific criticisms. We come up to Marine on St. Croix a couple of times a year to see dear friends in the area and would rent this apartment if some updated work was accomplished! We were very appreciative of the host’s kindness in allowing us a last-minute adjustment on the day of our arrival and departure due to a serious emergency at our home. The spacious living/dining area is a lovely feature that we truly enjoyed!!

Great place to stay! Just what we needed.
We did trip a circuit when I was blow drying my hair— my husband looked everywhere on the property to find the electrical box—- finally found it in the dungy basement. We did find some spiders in the bathroom- expected in an older home. The WiFi never worked for us— always said we needed a password for the guest. I could not find a cell # for the hosts which was a bummer but we survived. What a cute area across the highway- enjoyed the little shops!

Comfortable place, good location
I stayed in Unit #3 on the first floor. I enjoyed my stay in this one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. It’s decorated very well and comfortable; the pictures reflect the place accurately. The hosts made the unit very welcoming by having the air conditioner (a very nice newer floor model) on and battery operated candles on. There was also a bottle of wine available and the kitchen was stocked with some food items (canned soups, beans, hot chocolate, cooking oil, spices.) The bathroom towels are nice, there is a hair dryer, extras in the bathroom - shaving cream, disposable razors, shampoo and conditioner. The bed was comfortable. Free WiFi, but occasionally slow. The main part of Marine on Saint Croix is across the street within walking distance. It is only about two blocks long. Very quaint. Stillwater is a short drive for more things to do. Some state parks are also nearby. I appreciated the detailed check-in information the hosts provided especially how to find the parking area behind the building. The units are in a historical building, it is very old and the hallway to the unit is not pleasant, has a very musty odor. But again, the unit itself was nice. I would stay here again.

4 day get away
Kitchen well stocked with basic spices, soups, cleaning supplies. Fresh coffee beans with grinder. Tropical seaside theme. Rooms very spacious. Sitting area for reading. Kichen cabinets dated. Owner very prompt when wi-fi went out. Great location in the St. Croix River Valley between Stillwater and Taylor Falls.

Great value
Marine on St Croix is a beautiful little town. The property is easily walkable to the Main Street. The property was clean, easy to access, had the amenities we needed, and was a great value for the area. The living room furniture isn't very comfortable, but if you aren’t there much it isn’t a big deal.

It felt good to be home....
The stay was warm, welcoming and wonderful. I've always enjoyed the area and it was that much more special to stay in town for a few days while visiting family. Great hosts. Will definitely look for vacancy again when I need to return to the area.

This is the third time we've used this as overflow for our holiday gatherings. Always clean and comfortable, in fact maybe too comfortable since our guests that stay here are usually late for breakfast at our place a mile away.

Good location and roomy unit.
The apartment could be excellent with just a little attention. The hide-a-bed is not fit to sleep in. The second night we ended up switching the matresses. That made the hide-a-bed much more comfortable, the bedroom was sleepable. The decor is pretty, but I would suggest not setting the table up with dishes, it's not convenient. Also there was a light bulb missing in the bathroom - 4 lights, two regular bulbs, one a candle bulb, and one empty. It's a dark bathroom. Seems that would have been something obvious to fix before the next guest arrived. We had to call Dave for a bulb -- he did come that day. The chairs in the living room are cute, but not that comfortable. There is plenty of dishes in the kitchen, but could use a new stove. We didn't use it, but it didn't look clean. There were plenty of towels. There was not a strong WIFI signal, but it worked. Previously vacationers said that it smelled bad. There was no bad smell in the unit. It is an older building, so hallways a little bit, but not enough to bother us. Marine is a great little town, so if you want the conveniences and quiet atmosphere of a small town, this would be a great place. I suggest if they don't change out the hide-a-bed, that you stick to two people.

Great weekend!
Enjoyed our weekend in Marine! So much to do in this sweet little town. Had pizza and wine at the chocolate shop, breakfast at The Landing and saw a great outdoor concert and burgers at The Brookside. Once we parked at the schoolhouse, we were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. The apartment had everything we needed, was very clean and comfortable. Loved sitting out on the patio each evening. We would gladly stay here again!!

Perfect for a long weekend. Loved the area. The apartment had everything we needed. My only critiques would be the mattress on the pullout wasn't in the best condition. And no wifi. But other than that it was a great stay for the money.

Nice little apartment with everything we needed. Owners very accommodating. Affordable.
Old school house with old building smell. Worse in the hall, maybe the carpet. Had everything we needed otherwise. Good off street parking . Loved the Adirondack chairs. Wished we had time to use the grilling area but admired it. Location is great. Enjoyed shopping and biking in Stillwater and North to Osceola for kayaking. Owners are so right about Square Lake. Were able to call ourselves triatheletes after swimming these beautiful clear waters. The village of Marine on St. Croix is a little gem and worth time spent there also. Had a great time at the school.

Much better than a hotel!!
Enjoyed our home away from home! Nice quiet little town but Stillwater's just 15 minutes away. We really enjoyed the Brookside Grill which is right in town. The Marine on St. Croix Retreat was a great place to stay at a reasonable price.

More spacious than it looks on the photos
We were pleasantly surprised to find that the little apartment was more spacious than it looked in the photos. With high ceilings and plenty of room to move about the living room beckoned every time we opened the front door and we made generous use of it. The bathroom counter had enough space for two people to comfortable park their travel necessities and the spacious bedroom contained a comfortable bed. And then there is the location. Marine on St Croix is a walkable little town with good food, a local market, a post office and a bank... all with easy walking distance. Next time i visit the Minneapolis St Paul area I will definately book here.

The property was just as described...no surprises. The unit was clean and everything worked. David provided some basic food items--including coffee and wine--which were a nice touch. David provided accurate directions to the property and how to access the unit. We were very happy with our stay and would certainly stay there again if visiting the area.

First of all, it's difficult to find a full furnished one-week rental, so that was a good find. While being an older refurbished building, it was nicely decorated, clean, had all the comforts of home with extras. We liked the easy parking and access. With the move of our son to the cities in August, we planned a " just us " getaway> What a wonderful place. The apt. itself is amazing. History and elegance combined. The owner Dave, is very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. The sweet little area of Marine St Croix, is memory making and we are talking about returning next year. We made a visit to Pleasant Valley Orchards and came home with APPLES. We also visited downtown Stillwater. Really LOVED the bookstore and found everything I wanted. Thank You Dave !

Stillwater Retreat
WOW ! Amazing apartment, and part of history. We were greeted with candles (faux) twinkling and a welcome feel. My husband loved the bed. I keep sitting here and imagining this place as a school, I can hear them running down the hall. The area is amazing and friendly and the drive here was a gourgeous fall drive. Thank You, if all works out, we will be back again !
