Great Place to Vacation
This property was great. The host are very kind and friendly. The location was quite and close to everything. It exceeded our expectations and more. The house was amazing inside and out. Old world Florida Paradise
What a tropical paradise place to stay. Beautiful accommodations surrounded by beauty indoors and out. The hosts were charming and our stay was like staying with old friends. Such a relaxing and beautiful place to stay.

NSB Gem
Herb and Susie may just be the lovliest people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. From the moment we clicked "book" , Susie was the most hospitable host. She called the next day to let us know the check in process as well as all of the happenings in the area that week. The location is perfect and lands you right in the middle of canal street and flagler ave. The home is walking distance to everywhere. The carriage house is one of a kind, it is very clean, and the grounds are just beautiful! We very much enjoyed the private dock and fishing, but were also able to ride the bikes around town. Would 100% recommend staying here and we are hoping to visit again in the near future!

Enchanted Cottage
As beautiful and peaceful as the cottage is, the imprint on our memories are the hosts, Herb and Susie. They will have a place in our hearts forever. The most special people we have ever known. Now, to the cottage; enchanting. peaceful, spiritual, a work of art and a garden of love. Did I mention the house is convenient to EVERYTHING? Our stay was amazing!

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the property
To start the owners were amazing ! Beautiful place to stay with everything we needed . Beautiful private pool and the gardens were spectacular. We fished almost every evening off the dock. I would definitely stay here again ! And did I mention the owners are amazing and so kind . When we left she sent us off with hot out of the oven muffins and butter . Amazing overall !! Thank you !

Garden of Eden meets New Smyrna Beach
We loved our short time here and only disappointment was that we had to leave. Our hosts Herb & Susan were simply wonderful. I would wake up most mornings and enjoy coffee on the deck overlooking the simply magnificently tranquil setting then maybe a little fishing after. The house is Artsy, Whimsical and a little nostalgic. Just a great deal of fun and was a real vacation from the ordinary. The town is well within walking distance and night or day we always felt very comfortable wherever we went.

A Hystorical Master-Peace
Susie & Herb, our warm, caring, attentive (but not overly) hosts of the Carriage House were more than helpful. The space itself was spotless, cozy & so well equipped , there was little else we needed. Very peaceful indeed.....plus the central location of the Carriage House lent itself to daily outings, walking or driving, very good near-by restaurants, shops, museums, the beach, & so much more. Our 2 poodles were overjoyed with Susie & Herb's hospitality as well. What a beautiful experience!!!!! Thank you.

Wonderful stay!
The property was perfect. The house is adorable and equipped with all you need. Extremely clean and hosts went above and beyond to be accommodating. The gardens and pool area are amazing even though the flowers were not in bloom during our visit. We look forward to another stay in the future.

Relax and recharge
The property was a dream. Hosts were very thoughtful in supplying everything you could possibly need. There was an unexpected delight in a personalized gift basket waiting on me. Although the property is within a neighborhood of historic homes it was as if you were in a secluded nest surrounded by art and nature. Setting is very private but easy walking distance to Canal Street and all is interesting shops and eateries. Short drive over the causeway bridge to Flagler Avenue and the beach. Planning my next stay.

Good experience!

Tropical Paradise
This was a wonderful experience! We typically stay on the beach but this year spent a second week at this charming place in town. Susie and Herb were so welcoming and just the right mix of being attentive without being intrusive. Very close walk to downtown and the marina, and the property was so lovely. And the private pool! This is a fantastic spot for two people and I would love to do this again.

Magical!
Fell in love with this house, grounds, and the dock immediately. Sitting on the upstairs deck was like being in a treehouse, with many birds, anoles, and nighttime frogs, relaxing and restful. It was a short drive to the beach, and a short stroll to Canal Street and it’s shops and restaurants. Herb was helpful with any questions, and he and Susie really went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time. Our one month stay was not enough, and we look forward to coming back next year.

Magical!
The moment we stepped onto this magnificent property we were greeted by the beauty and fairytale like charm of the garden. Susie and Herb, our gracious and wonderful hosts, gave us a quick tour of the Carriage house and grounds. The cottage was filled with antiques, original art, and fresh flowers in every room. The cute as a button I love Lucy kitchen was stocked with everything we could have possibly needed. We were greeted with a welcome basket full of snacks, champagne, coffee, and even a danish for the morning. On my husband's birthday they decorated and bought him a cake complete with hats and a candle! All of the amenities we needed were there for our relaxing vacation.. Bikes, kayaks, a private pool, even fishing poles, all we needed was bait. The dock across the street was great for fishing, relaxing, or just watching the tide come in. We saw a couple of sea turtles and caught a few fish. The garden and the private pool are a little piece of paradise. The deck on the back off of the kitchen is magical, it sits among the old live oaks dripping with Spanish moss. The whole place is just gorgeous, we didnt want to leave. Our hosts Susie and Herb's generosity and hospitality can never be matched. They even got up early and brought us fresh blueberry muffins the morning we left! We can't wait to go back! Indescribably beautiful!
Susie & Herb are top-notch hosts! They put their heart and soul into making sure guests feel pampered and cared for, and the Carriage House is a perfect getaway. The attention to detail is just astounding. If you have any questions or concerns at all, just reach out, they are easy to communicate with and will help you think through anything that comes up. We have two darling fur babies (black labs) and they were welcomed with open arms and included in the welcome basket! The house is in a great neighborhood (historic district) and we were within walking distance to local shops, restaurants, art galleries, a brewery, a museum, and a park (with a Farmers Market and live music). I was also able to get up super early the second night to see the SpaceX night launch! The rocket comes right past the private dock and it was an amazing treat to see it. I still can't get over the beautiful gardens. Important things to know: you are the only guests; the Carriage House (CH) is it's own separate building with 3 exits; you have private use of a very nice washer and dryer; private use of a full kitchen, including a grill on the back deck; private use (registered guests only) of a beautiful deep pool that is gated off; use of the dock for fishing and kayaking (provided) and launch views; use of two adult bicycles; CH is a 2-story building, so be aware if baby gates are needed; 3 televisions (living/dining room, bedroom, and what I called the sitting room - with the fold out couch bed) with access to cable, netflix, prime, and youtube; there are tons of delicious restaurants within a 10 minute drive, and Susie & Herb have great recommendations; this property is on the Intracoastal Waterway (gorgeous) and the beach is a 5-10 minute drive. We are already dreaming of our next trip!

The Perfect Overdue Honeymoon

Peaceful Retreat
We had a wonderful week at The Carriage House! Herb and Susie are fantastic! We were treated as if we were one of their family. The house was clean, cozy and well equipped for our needs. The pool and dock were favorite spots to sit. We saw dolphins each day and a manatee on the last. The gardens are beautiful! Kayaks and bikes are there to use as well. Our dog, Marlow enjoyed the trip as well!! A basket of goodies awaited us when we arrived, including a toy for Marlow. Susie sent us off with fresh blueberry muffins that were phenomenal!! Highly recommend!!!

Worth the Wait
This was our first vacay in 4 years and boy was it worth the wait! We were greeted with a gift basket of goodies, wine, fresh fruits and veggies along with fresh flowers in vases around the carriage house. Such a nice touch we’ve never experienced. The gardens are a tropical oasis with the sound of water fountains and the waterfall in the pool. So nice to listen to in the evening and the gardens are lit all evening. There was so much to do we couldn’t fit it all in. Bike riding, swimming, beach going, fishing, visiting family just to name a few. Susie and Herb are vivacious, tireless and so friendly. It was a pleasure getting to know them. They went over and above to make our stay fabulous. We wish we had half the energy they have! When it was time to leave, they even sent us off with warm muffins. I mean, who does that? We definitely recommend trying this quaint vacation spot.

Magical
My boyfriend our Staffordshire Terrier and myself visited and stayed for a week. Let’s begin by saying a week was not nearly enough. We loved Susie’s and Herbs beautiful Horse and Carriage home with the beautiful magical gardens and AMAZING pool. We went Kayaking, rode the bikes that they provide for the guests and enjoyed the peaceful and beautiful view of the personal dock. The place was so clean and comfortable. We slept like babies on the bed. The I Love Lucy kitchen was fully stocked with everything you needed and the cutest kitchen. We also enjoyed Barbecuing every day. The dog beach was amazing and short distance from the home. Kane went swimming in the ocean for his first time and he just enjoyed it so much. The neighborhood is also beautiful and we really enjoyed the dog walks. We have traveled a lot and let me tell you Susie and Herb are the most kindest, caring and thoughtful hosts we have EVER encountered. They really wanted to make sure that our stay was comfortable, fun and that we had everything we needed. They also surprised Jerry with Birthday decorations and a Birthday cake which made Jerry’s Birthday extra special, it really touched his heart. They even gifted Kane a dog bone, so sweet. Susie and Herb were are hosts but quickly turned into our friends. I must say we will miss them a bunch. From the bottom of our hearts we want to Thank you Susie and Herb, Much Love, Maggie, Jerry and Kane

Wonderful Escape

Everything You Could Possibly Want
Words cannot describe our week as guests at this beautiful carriage house. Herb and Susie welcomed us as family (including our labradoodle). Beautiful landscaping, beautiful pool, dock for fishing, kayaking, bikes which we used to peddle along the Indian River. The carriage house had so much character, and everything we could possibly need. The 2nd story deck was ideal for lunch and coffee in the morning and felt as if we lived in the trees. We had a full kitchen fully equipped. We received a gift basket and champagne, snacks, and even a toy for Chester. The generosity of Herb and Susie went beyond anything we could ever imagine. My husband has said it is the best place he has ever stayed and I am in full agreement. I cannot wait to make my way back to their wonderful paradise.

Beautiful with friendly hosts
We really enjoyed our stay with Susie and Hugh. The house was extremely clean and the grounds are immaculate, we felt right at home. Enjoyed kayaking and biking to the beach. Our dog enjoyed staying there as well. Only negative is occasional sounds of train horns that woke us up overnight for the first few nights. After that we got used to them. To be clear, the tracks are not close to the house but the horn sounds travel very far. Overall we had a fantastic vacation there and would consider coming back in the future!

Perfect Peaceful Vacation
Susie and Herb are consummate hosts. We have traveled to many places around the world and stayed at many VRBOs and by far this was the best. Susie sent us information about what was happening in town before we got there so we could prepare for our vacation. When we arrived, they gave us a tour of the property showing us around and explaining where everything was located. The Carriage House is decorated so amazing! You could spend quite a bit of time exploring the collections of paintings and books throughout. Other reviewers have said that “you will want for nothing” while staying here and I totally agree. The property is so beautiful, and you can tell they have put a lot of hard work and love into it. The sound of the many fountains throughout are so peaceful. The pool was amazing, I would have been in the pool the entire trip, but it was a little chilly, so I settled for reading by the pool daily. The dock on the river was also a place we liked to visit daily. This was exactly the vacation that we were looking for; a place to relax and gain some peace back in our lives. Family visit to new Smyrna...garden..pool.. dock.. fishing
We loved our stay at susie & herbs.. the grounds are amazing. The carriage house had so much to offer.Plenty of room to relaxe. Fantastic 2nd floor back porch w wonderful views. But my favorite is the dock in front of home..fished and kayaked and just hung out absorbing the view..It's really hard to describe how much this property has to offer. Besides all of that location was real quite but close enough to bike and walk to alot of places.. the only mistake we made... we should have stayed longer...we will definitely be back

Susie and Herb are among the most wonderful people ever. The house and garden and pool are so inviting. Susie brought me one treat after another, so the experience is a feast for your eyes, your belly (If you are lucky you may get her special meatloaf) and your soul. Charming house in convenient location
We really enjoyed our stay here. There are several comfortable sitting areas in the house to read, watch tv, or look out at the trees and garden. The pool is private and has multiple seating choices so you can move from sun to shade as desired. An easy walk to the downtown historic street and a short drive to the beach area. Didn’t try the supplied bikes though. Our trip was cut short due to the corona virus and so we did not get to continue our exploration of the area. Will try to get back. Great hosts - welcoming, helpful, and friendly.

Perfect Location Unique Accommodation
The guest house is dressed to the 9s with something unique in every gaze! If that's not enough, the gardens are remarkably groomed and well appointed with statuary . As you stroll through the property, the secluded pool and gardens become apparent and then you notice a fairy garden tucked in just behind your lounge area. All a feast for your enjoyment. Suzie and Herb were the perfect hosts offering suggestions to local festivals and attractions. We even received a call to come outside on the dock to view a Spacex rocket launch.

The Enchanted Carriage House
Susie and Herb were both delightful and helpful with: current events, points of interest, restaurants, while providing navigable directions. The beautifully refurbished enchanted carriage house itself is a nested getaway when sun, sand and surf need a slight retreat. The secluded pool is concealed within the garden providing an oasis from the world. The 508 botanical gardens are a bit of Heaven’s reserve, and I cannot paint the appropriate prose to describe them adequately! They were worth every minute of exploration I invested in them: both night and day!

The owners, Susie and Herb were warm, friendly and accommodating. We were delighted to find a nice gift basket filled with goodies, even treats for our dogs and a nice bottle of wine! Absolutely beautiful!
My husband and I stayed in this adorable home with an absolutely beautiful garden of true heaven. We truly love Susie and Herb! We will be returning for another relaxing visit. Susie and Herb are such wonderful host.They had gifts for us and our pups upon our arrival and made us a lovely jambalaya lunch one day. I loved the pool too, even though I couldn't swim in it as much as I would've liked to. The property is so heavenly. They were very informative about places to see and visit which is always a great thing when it's your first time visiting the area. I highly recommend them and their beautiful private home. Can't wait for our next visit!

Fun for the kids, then later a romantic setting. So many thoughtful extras personalized by hosts!!!
This property is obviously loved by the owners as the entire place is beautiful and so very well taken care of! I had TWO back to back vacations there. The first was with my 'kids', who particularly enjoyed the pool and the proximity to everything as well as the comfortable beds and whimsical decor in the very well furnished carriage house. The hosts even bought a Birthday cake when I mentioned we were celebrating birthdays! Later, the same place served as a romantic setting where "K" and I enjoyed the lush, landscaped grounds, suggestions for activities by the host as well as a bottle of wine and even a special pot of gumbo when the weather wasnt great and they heard we were from New Orleans! We also enjoyed cocktails on the dock with its nice fire pit! So many nice touches, beautiful artwork, nice sheets and tons of other amenities including a washer/ dryer, TV/ WIFI, books, etc! Susan and Herb are simply beautiful, fun people who made our stays extra special! Referring all friends and family! Madeline Caruther 6/17/2019

Paradise!
In searching for a monthly rental in New Smyrna Beach, I looked at many VRBO properties that were lovely. When I came upon Susie and Herb's property, I immediately fell in love with the gardens, the carriage house and the historic significance of the neighborhood. We live in a Victorian village in upstate New York and we were drawn to this property. Susie and Herb are such wonderful hosts! Not only did they see to every detail to make sure our stay was peaceful and fun, they respected our privacy and gave us great ideas for places to visit. We arrived as renters and left feeling like we were old friends. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay! Truly paradise!

A Perfect Piece of Paradise
My husband and I recently enjoyed our second stay at the charming Carriage House. This cozy cottage features comfy furniture, antiques, art, collectibles, and stained glass that all meld together to create a warm and unique atmosphere. There is beautiful landscaping surrounding the entire estate, a tropical and tranquil swimming pool area, and even an enchanting fairy garden. You can wander the pathways or view all of this beauty from the second story deck. The entire historic property is lovingly maintained by the wonderful owners and hosts, Susie and Herb, who care about every detail of the vacation experience. We truly loved every aspect of our relaxing retreat at this very special piece of paradise!!
