It was a really cute stay for my birthday weekend The little touches from the pantry to the check in wine offered and the Madeline cakes hanging on the doors- and the room was so cute too. Little spa to use with an outdoor pool. Outdoor seating for a drink/ lunch at the brasserie. We had a pianist during dinner. Was a lovely stay

We had a wonderful stay at The Retreat. The room was spacious and comfortable and we appreciated the pantries with complementary drinks and snacks. The facilities are high quality, with an elegant feel without being dated. Food was good in both restaurants, as was breakfast. The spa was very relaxing. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely building, rooms and excellent service from staff. Spa good, but disappointed due to odorous water in outside hot tubs and excessive amount of foam and scum in the indoor hydro pool which put us off using the spa facilities due to concerns of cleanliness. A shame as everything else about our stay was exceptional. Complimentary room upgrade was appreciated although the shower tray was very slow to drain. The pantry room is a great idea and had a good selection of drinks and snacks to choose from. Walks suggested in the handy book in our room were well enjoyed. The Brasserie restaurant was excellent with a good menu and service was second to none - everyone was friendly and nothing was too much to ask. (N.B. Spa cleanliness was raised with reception at checkout)

Logistically breakfast doesn’t work. Too many guests and not enough seating. Tables not cleared quick enough so you end up standing with your food waiting for a table.

Fantastic pet friendly hotel, amazing food, great walks outside, great extras, love the pantry’s and the boots for free hire, the games in the lounge and the free night cap, to be super picky the only complain I could have is the outside hot tubs need a good clean and sadly while I was their only one was working which may be the reason for the tub needing cleaning due to over use. But it still gets 5 stars from me as the rest was stellar quality.

We enjoyed our one night stay however feel there are improvements that would enhance the experience. Breakfast was nice with a good selection and welcoming staff. The welcome wine was a generous touch at check in. The outdoor pool is great however would be improved with keeping the area tidy and organised when guests have left their towels and drinking glasses behind. I found it really unpleasant using the steam room when I noticed a plaster on the floor amongst many hairs, the next day the plaster was still on the floor and proved the steam room had not been cleaned, the sauna was also covered in hairs on the floor. Shame as the facilities were lovely but needed cleaning. I was surprised no slippers were available in the rooms with the robes. Also the water dispenser had not been replenished so on exiting the sauna there was no water available. It felt very low standards that the basics had not been seen to. Check in at 4pm also seems quite late. The room was nice enough for what we needed for a night however if staying longer there’s no wardrobe to unpack, just some coat hooks on the wall. The hotel is great for a night and if you’re lucky with good weather to enjoy the outdoor pool. Although we felt some areas needed improvement we did have a really good time and thought the young staff were very friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay, we loved that there was a pantry with drinks and snacks in, and the staff were so friendly from reception to breakfast the next morning. The pool area was good, and we'd come back again.

Buffet breakfast was tepid, warm plates would have helped. Our second morning after our request they cooked it fresh to order - massive improvement. Unfortunately for our evening meal we were served undercooked batter on our fish. Restaurant staff handled brilliantly. Residences are not a part of the hotel in the main house but converted cottages, a short walk away and unlit. The toilet in the main bedroom wouldn't stop filling. Husband managed to shut it off, reported to reception next morning. Next night same occurred, we were told maintenance had gone home, luckily we managed to switch it off but making it unusable for a second night. Not really acceptable. Need a shelf for shower toiletries as they are on the floor. Second bedroom ensuite has a bath with shower over - needs a curtain of some sort as water goes everywhere.No spare pillows as one may have anticipated in the main hotel and they were quite flat. I'm sure more would have been available if we had asked again. The 'dressing table' needs a chair/stool to sit on no-one can stand to the mirror height. The heating in residence could only be set for 2 hours at a time so walked back into a cool property although the bedroom seemed to work continuously. More mugs are needed, we had to ask. Washing up liquid needs to be supplied. The property and bedlinen were spotlessly clean. No safe in the room. Spa was fine.
