“I felt like I was on a glamorous, 1940s-era Hollywood film set of a Khmer village. Some pieces were dated, but that added to the old-world charm. The island is idyllic (borrow one of the hotel bikes!), but the ferry is finicky. A Canadian couple told me they never waited more than 15 minutes, but I spent considerably more time waiting on it. If you’re in a pinch, as I was, call the hotel and they will call a private boat for you. It’s $5 one way for private boat vs 25 cents for the ferry. The...

“Adorable little homestay on the western side of Banlung only a short walk from the center of town. The bungalows are spacious, clean, and have hot water showers. “Booked the hotel for the pool,and were happy about that in this very hot town. The restaurant was expensive and bad value. The spaghetti tasted strange and ordered fried vegetables that arrived after a loong waiting time, half meat half mushrooms. Staff didn't speak much/any English so just pay and be happy. “The hotel is in a beautiful area. The staff is so thoughtful and friendly. We had lovely conversation with the waitress in the restaurant both nights. When we left it was very early so the staff packed us a to go breakfast. Everything we asked for they did their best to accommodate. The room was very clean and well kept up. Not to mention that the balcony left the perfect place to enjoy the view with a glass of wine.”
