Our four poster king room was fabulous- spotlessly clean with lovely touches such as a bowl of fruit and fresh milk. Breakfast was well cooked and hearty. Hazel was a thoughtful and genuinely friendly host. I would definitely recommend a stay at this lovely B&B.

My boyfriend and I were driving up to Scotland from Essex and needed a place closer to the borderlands. I looked up quaint places and found Penrith to be a good stopping point. Upon further research I found the Stafford house, and thank heavens I did. I’ve never felt so attended and cared after as I did during this stay. It truly feels like you’re taken back in time with all the amenities you need in current times. I would suggest this to every person on the planet. You will be well taken care of and have a warm (if you’re traveling in the fall/winter) and wonderful stay. They provide an extensive and varied breakfast that is absolutely incredible. A note if you’re using hotels.com: they do not communicate any information to the host. This is an issue on the 3rd parties end(like hotels.com and Expedia). I highly suggest reaching out to the property once the room is booked to provide your details so they can contact you directly, if needed.

The property is outstanding - within the gates of Greystoke Castle, surrounded by meticulously kept gardens, steps from the beautiful village of Greystoke yet quiet and peaceful. Hosts Hazel and Ian were warm and welcoming and both attentive and knowledgeable about the area and Cumbria in general, willing to share ideas on places to visit. Exceptional hosts! Their locally-sourced breakfasts were outstanding, the room was beautiful and fully stocked with anything you could possibly need. There is so much to see in the area and this is a good base from which to explore the Lake District. I would recommend Stafford House without reservation and hope to return again.

An absolutely fascinating Place.

This is an absolutely amazing place, filled with style and atmosphere. Hazel is a tremendous host, helped us to book a table at the nearest Pub, and gave us good advice, what to see in the area. Told us also a bit about her exiciting life in the horseworld. The bed and the room are lovely, there is fresh water and milk in the refrigerator. Everything is nice and clean. The breakfast is really good. The garden is lovely. I can´t find anything negative to say about this place. I give it my very best recommandations, and would love to come back.

Beautiful place and great staff.

Beautiful and interesting place. We had the delux room. Four poster bed, thst was possible the most comfortable ive stayed on. Breakfast was fantastic, all of it was delicious, but the black pudding was wow, amazing. The premises are decorated beautifully and in character with the building. Hazel snd her husband (very remiss of me but i didnt get his name) are lovely, and very welcoming. I can't rate this place highly enough. We will definitely be back, and for a couple of days at least next time.

A lovely, secluded, historic property in beautiful gardens. Very good choice of well cooked breakfasts. Hazel, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and very clean. The property is in a village which is well placed for local beauty spots and attractions. There is a village pub which has good food and is an easy stroll from the property.
