Avoid place, they overbooked
I booked this hotel around 2 months before for the last weekend of July to spend my birthday in Penzance. They called me when we were arriving from Cardiff (almost 4 hours journey) to tell us that they have to cancel our 2 nights due to fire alarm test without any compensation, just that they are very sorry... Clearly an excuse, probably they overbooked, so we had to try to find something in July for that same night, when everything was full or overpriced! It was an amazing birhday present... 😒

The person who constructed the sleeping quarters upstairs had no intimate knowledge of levels, squares, and perpendiculars. And if you have reached the age where an in-suite bath might be more of a necessity than a luxury, this might not be the place for you. However, this inn has character, and is frequented by characters. The innkeeper is a man of many hats, and with his loyal sidekick Joey everything gets done in good time. The food and drinks are good and reasonably priced, and the atmosphere of the place brought back pleasant memories of the warmth and friendliness of the Cornish people on a Market Jew Street that has remained unchanged for 50 years.

The location is excellent and the service was really good. Only real downside was the access to the hotel from the back of the hotel was pretty dirty. Overall not bad for the value however.

A little worn, but comfortable and friendly
Very pleasant stay, due to the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The place itself is a bit worn, but the beds are comfortable and the continental breakfast is excellent. Given the budget price, it is good value.

Nice place to crash out
We only booked a night in the town as we had a family meal to attend so didn't stay long checked in. All seemed good. The down side was no private bathroom but we knew that when we booked. Overall very good value for the price in the heart of the town close to everything. We had to leave earlier than planned due to a family crisis but we would have appreciated the free breakfast

Basic room, lovely large bed, and coffee/ tea makings in the room. Everything was clean, although the stairwell carpets were pretty tired. There was new carpet in the room however. Shared bathroom was clean and neat. Breakfast had lots of lovely fresh fruit as well as eggs, meats, yogurt etc. Staff very nice and helpful.
