Major security concerns and cleanliness issues!

I never write one-star reviews but want to warn others about this place. First, I paid $400 for a hotel to AVOID staying a 2nd night here! First, the neighborhood is rough. According to LexisNexis Community Crime Map there have been 12 auto thefts, 3 sexual assaults and about 20 robbery/burglaries in 2024 YTD just within a 1/2-mile radius of this house. The house is at the street dead-end and anyone staying there will feel vulnerable since everyone in the area can identify the last three houses as short-term rentals. So how was our experience? We arrived after the check-in time around 5 pm, so would have expected the cleaning to have been complete. When we pulled into the driveway a teenage to early twenties aged MAN WALKED OUT OF THE FRONT DOOR. He gave me a strange look as if he was caught hanging out in the house, then proceeded to go to the house next door (also a rental) and typed the keypad code to unlock and go inside. The owner later described him as part of the cleaning crew, but he had no cleaning supplies, no vehicle in front of the house and the house had no evidence of recent cleaning - a dirty diaper in a bathroom trashcan and french fries in another, beer can on kitchen counter, dishwasher had not been run, and a set of dirty sheets was wadded up in the master closet. There was no other deadbolt for the door except the keypad operated lock this guy (likely lurking next door) had access to. Needless to say, I hardly slept at all.

Horrible experience

I contacted the owner weeks in advance regarding my daughter's sweet 16 and received no communication back. Reached out to the home owner again a couple of days before, still no response. Then the morning of, I called and the call went to a voice mailbox that was full. I then tried texting the number and that was the very first response I received. No pleasantries or apologies for their lack of correspondence- just a demand to know how many guests would be there. The intention was 7 overnight guests, but for her dad and younger brothers to be able to come, sing "Happy Birthday", eat with us, then leave. What teenage girl wants her dad and brothers to stay anyway? This was a problem for the owner. When I attempted to rectify the issue by assuring him that I won't have my husband and sons attend since this bothered him, he said that he didn’t believe me and he had the right to assume whatever he wants since he's the home owner. If I was attempting to be dishonest and have extra guests at his place, why would I have even contacted him to let him know? Still, he canceled my reservation hours before we all were supposed to arrive. Thank goodness I was able to find another rental swiftly, with a very kind person, otherwise it would have been devastating. All worked out in the end and I actually felt more comfort NOT staying at his place, he was so rude. I was unable to verify the neighborhood or cleanliness, which is why I gave a neutral rating.

Dirty House made for Parties

There is a lot of issues with this home. But I will start from the beginning. 12 days prior to our stay I messaged the property manager/owner about checking in early since I was trying to map out our day with small children that need to nap so they are not melting down at my grandmother’s funeral that night. And I never got a response despite calling 4 times and leaving multiple messages on the platform. When he messaged me the check in information, he apologized and said the platform he was using wasn’t working. Which was strange because I called his personal number many times and even VRBO called for me as well. So we check in and the home is not ANYTHING like the photos. It’s absolutely disgusting. I wish I could attach photos. This place had maybe been surface level cleaned. But the baseboards had a thick amount of dirt and dust in a lot of areas and the shower was awful. The home didn’t have any paper towel in the kitchen. And also did not have any kitchen towels. This was such a let down. You can totally tell the house is made for teenagers that want a place to have a big party. But unless you are that demographic, I HIGHLY recommend not staying here.
