Great stay in unique property
The property owners were great and made sure our arrival was welcoming with great info and welcome pack. The property is a unique original cottage with hone comforts and incredible view. There are some great walks and lots of activities nearby and a visit to ye older ferrie inn is a must. As with anywhere in this area to get the most you have to prepared to be a bit active and there are a few steps required to get down to the cottage but definitely worthwhile. Recommended for chilled out stay in a stunning area of the country.

Lovely peaceful spot
We really enjoyed our stay at the Cot. Its a very quaint little place set back up on the hill, but with great walking from the door. Its a steep walk down to the river, but only takes 10 minutes to walk back up. We had an amazing few days!

Wonderful views and scenery
We had a lovely stay in The Cot over the Easter weekend. We enjoyed a couple of great walks as recommended in the cottage guide, and a very good meal in The Olde Ferrie. The cottage is simple, compact but very comfortable and in a wonderful setting. The owners were very helpful and communicative - and gave very helpful advice about access to the house.

Cosy, quiet cottage, great views
We had a fantastic time with active days and relaxing evenings. The walk to the pub is exciting! The owners made our stay just perfect and made themselves available if we had any questions or problems. The access to the property is a little tricky but this makes the place even more exciting in our opinion. We plan to visit again!

Family Time
A beautiful property in a stunning location. Being dog friendly as well made this even more desirable. The property is approached by a steep pathway and steps as the owner points out, but you'll go back fitter for it . Some wonderful walks, nearby. The owners have kindly produced some step by step guides to places of local areas of interest which we found really useful. There a lovely local pub The Wye Knot just down the hill... It's a very interesting walk back up the path after a few drinks of the local ale. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending the cottage and would love to go back for longer. Forgot to add the skies at night are a star gazers delight. My son in law and I spent most evenings spotting a range of constellations above the cottage absolutely amazing.

Doward
Enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed. In a peaceful spot with fabulous views out from the veranda. Easy to travel to local towns and places of interest. Enjoyed the circular walk from Symonds Yat returning by the ferry. All helped by a spell of hot weather.

Beautiful location, wonderful stay
Everything was awesome. The property was immaculately clean and welcoming. It was evident that a lot of effort went into making the stay easy and comfortable. The highlight was all the nature, animals and bugs we saw. One evening we watched a roe deer on the grounds. Thank you for a lovely stay

Recommended
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Cot. The wonderful part about the cottage is the excellent and interesting views. The owners put a lot of effort into communication and making our stay as easy as possible. We very much enjoyed the treats - many thanks indeed. We recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a typical cottage in this wonderful area; however, for us personally, we are normally drawn to a more modern decor. Nonetheless, that said, we were more than happy with our choice and had a great time.

Great location and close to allot of bigger towns, you do need to be fit with the steps leading upto the parking area and driving up to the main road could be difficult as there is a steep slope which can be difficult in wet weather, it’s all worth it as the properly is really lovely and the views are amazing

Our stay the Cot was fantastic and made very homely by Janet and Graham.
The Cot is a great place to stay and well situated to visit anywhere in the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas. We would certainly recommend the Cot and hope to revisit again.

Perfect relaxing week
Great property with stunning views lovelly big parasol meant we could even sit out in the rain. Well equipped the owners have thought of everything. Great walks from the door so only used car once to resupply. Good pub on the river only 15 minutes walk down (takes a bit longer on the way back). Hope to return one day.

Fijn huis met prachtig uitzicht
Het huis ligt op een heuvel en heeft een prachtig uitzicht vanaf het terras. Het is compleet uitgerust. De toegangsweg is soms wat smal, maar heeft genoeg ruimte her en der om te passeren. Wij vonden het prima te doen. Inderdaad wat trappen vervolgens om naar het huis te komen (dus niet geschikt voor mensen die wat slechter ter been zijn, maar verder goed te doen). Mooie omgeving met veel wandelmogelijkheden en natuur. Vriendelijke eigenaren.

As described! I will definitely go back.
This property is a stunning cottage, in a stunning setting - anyone looking for a quiet get-away, in a secluded location won't be disappointed. It is a long drive up narrow country lanes and there are a lot of steps down to the property - but the view from the front terrace (and all the windows) makes it worth it. The cottage is very comfortable - comfortable bed, good shower, good wifi connection. I will definitely go back!

Fabulous, comfortable cottage with everything you need and more provided. Setting is amazing, altho hard work to & from the cottage but good for a work out! Walks from the door in beautiful scenery - woodlands, river all within easy reach. A couple pubs within walking distance which serve food & are very dog friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to return

Fantastic little cottage, stunning views! If you are looking for an adventure this is perfect
Lovely little cottage that had everything we needed for a perfect stay. The location is fantastic and the views are absolutely stunning. I will miss dining out on that terrace! The kids loved the swing and playing hide and seek in the grounds. Lots of beautiful walks on your doorstep and so many excellent local places to keep the kids happy (Perry Grove steam train, Forest of Dean, Raglan and Goodwood castles, Wye Valley butterfly farm to name a few). Canoeing on the river Wye was also a highlight. Some great pubs in walking distance too 😊 Certainly one of the most adventurous and unique places we have ever stayed. Make sure you switch off the sat nav and follow the detailed directions given, as some of the tiny lanes are certainly very tight for large cars. Absolutely worth the effort though for such a dreamy location. The steps down to the cottage are steep, and were a bit of a struggle for our 4 year old, but she rose to challenge admirably! I wouldn't let her do them on her own though, so that might be something to bare in mind, however this is all made very clear in the property description. We would also return in a heart beat!

Had 3 night stay . Lovely property with stunning views . Spotlessly clean with everything you could want for a perfect stay . Very nice owners . Area generally is beautiful and perfect for great walks . The minus for it is it’s location. Very isolated and certainly not suitable for the elderly and anyone with limited mobility . To get from where car was parked and the property there are approximately 55 steep steps Downwards . Then the same amount to get back to the car . When we arrived the owner carried our bags down . Coming home made 5 journeys up with small bags and packed suitcase in the car. If you like peace, and quiet in insolation then this is the perfect place

Check-in details and instruction were really clear and sent well before arrival. There are a lot of steps down to the property but this is clearly highlighted in the advert and are as described. Jan & Graham did off help in getting our things down the stops but we didn't any. It also means that the place is quite secluded and private with amazing views and lots of walks from the front door. All the basics are provided (oils condiments, milt, tea etc) as well as some lovely welsh cakes and a bottle of wine. The wi-fi is good and the TVs smart and a range of games. The place was spotlessly clean with lots of information walks and local area as well as how to use the appliances. The place is very warm and there is a small burner in each of the downstairs rooms. The space is relatively small but is an old property with lots of character and was perfect for what we wanted.

Hidden gem
Beautiful cottage hidden in the hills. Perfect for a family of 4 and our dog. The kids and dog had fun running around the grounds. We had some deer in the garden at one point. -Beds super comfortable -Kitchen well equipped inc dishwasher and washing machine -Cosy lounge area with log burner -Views amazing Once you find the short cuts it doesn’t take long to get to the river and pub! Loads of great walks on your doorstep so you don’t have to drive We went to Symonds Yat Rock, Puzzle Wood, King Arthur’s Cave, played crazy golf, lots of walks, & Goodrich Castle. Went home via Tintern Abbey. The steps are steep from the parking area to the cottage and from the cottage to the river but we are fairly fit and didn’t have any issues. They are well lit too with flood lights in the dark. The kids sprinted up and down no problem, like mountain goats. The roads up to the cottage are narrow so be cautious . We definitely want to come back, my husband would live there, if he could. Thank you for an amazing stay, we will be back.

Symonds Yat. Great location, fantastic walks, amazing scenery.
The property we stayed in had amazing views of the valley. Although many steep steps to get to and from with our luggage, it was well worth it once we were settled in. The cottage itself was equipped with everything we needed. Cosy warm and comfortable. We got lucky with the weather and enjoyed breakfast on the terrace. Lots of walks from the doorstep, with lots of maps to guide you. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lovely little cottage with amazing views. The walk/hill down to the local pub and/or up to your car certainly make you feel like you’ve had a work out but the views are worth it! This cottage is certainly not recommended for the faint hearted or with mobility issues!

Winter weekend stay
Our stay here was delightful! Property was very clean and as described/pictured, well stocked with basic amenities in addition to a lovely welcome treat from the hosts. It was nice and cozy and warm, kitchen was well kitted out for cooking. Lovely location also, a 15-20 minute walk to the river with a nice pub nearby. The hosts were very communicative and helpful, with excellent directions to the house and a list of walks around the area, with directions, are printed out for use in the property. We absolutely loved our stay here and would certainly visit again!

Great cottage with great views
Beautiful, old, character full cottage which has absolutely everything anyone might need or want for a very comfortable stay. The owners warned about the steps but perhaps it should be made clearer just how steep and long the path down to the cottage is. It’s a long way back up to the car when luggage and food is being carried. The view is excellent from the cottage and it feels like a comfortable hideaway.

The views from the garden across Symonds Yat were incredible. My wife and I did struggle loading up the car as it is such a long climb back up to the parking space. If you're fit it is well worth the effort though, especially as we saw deer wandering in the garden!

Rural retreat with amazing views.
Cosy little cottage with beautiful views from the terrace, where we enjoyed our coffee and breakfast. We soon got used to the many steps and didn't need to take the car out as there were so many different ways to walk around the Doward and down to the river. Enjoyed our stay so much, we are already planning our return!

Family trip to Symonds Yat
Both Symonds Yat and wider area made a great base for an active family holiday: canoeing, paddle boarding, MTB, walks. House was great for our needs. Good views, outdoor space, comfy beds, plenty of storage, character. Short walk to good riverside pubs. As other reviews have said, location would not suit nervous drivers or those with mobility issues. Kitchen a little basic if planning on a lot of cooking. Hosts were very welcoming and easy to communicate with. We would definitely return!

The cot was lovely with all the amenities, great views across the Wye Valley. Great walking location, conveniently near the river and two pubs, but be prepared for a lot of walking downhill then of course uphill on the way back, well it keeps you fit.

Great views, lovely thoughtful done, hidden gem of a cottage
The cottage, hidden away on the side of the valley, was clean, welcoming and had everything we needed. The views were superb day and night, worth getting up at dawn to see the mist in the valley and in the night to see the Milkyway. Great gas BBQ which we made full use of. Very comfortable. Lots of steps so you do need to be reasonably fit and able. Loved it.

Lovely short break
We are just back from a lovely few days away at the cot, & already wishing we were back! The peace & quiet was so nice, it would be easy to imagine you were the only people on earth whilst at the house. The cottage was lovely, had everything that we needed, everything was clean & tidy. The tea, coffee, milk & beers were much appreciated after a long journey, & the views were stunning. Breakfast on the patio surrounded by rolling hills was idyllic. You do need to be reasonably fit to manage the stairs outside, but we were made well aware of this before booking. Symonds Yat Rock is a must see when visiting the area- the views were beautiful! All in all, a lovely few days, thanks very much Jan & Graham.

Spectacular view
We loved this property. The weather was terrific so we ate all our meals on the terrace, just soaking up the panorama below. The view was spectacular and peaceful. We loved the location because of the closeness to the river and also the 'high' walks. The owners were very helpful and gave us lots of information.
