Great setting next to pretty village green, great breakfast, comfortable bed. Some attention needed to facilities, eg shower drainage, potholes near building, needed to request several basic items at breakfast.

The governors Andy & Carol & all the staff are so friendly & hospitality second to none. The regulars also such lovely people too, dog friendly, the food was exceptionally good, great choice of craft beers, very clear & comfortable rooms, excellent location to Stanstead Airport, great function rooms to. 5 * rating from me a very happy guest indeed 👍

Super friendly and welcoming
Fantastic little place in a nice village. Super friendly staff that make you feel extremely welcome and take the time to make conversation with you. Good food, nice clean rooms. Will definitely be returning when business brings me back to the area.

I don’t bother to review often…
but when I do, it’s because it was excellent. Absolutely lovely boarding house/pub in a small village. Tons of atmosphere and charm. The innkeep and his staff were very pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent and very open to customization. They even had a vegetarian version of the full English breakfast, which is something I don’t find very often. Will highly recommend for a family stopover or as a base for a few days while scouting the area.

great place to stop
This is a lovely place to stop and relax. The bed was extremely comfortable and the food presentation was amazing, it also tasted really good.

Unfortunately we were not there long enough to really appreciate the stay, we had to get up at 2am for an early flight from Stansted, so could not enjoy the breakfast, but the evening meal we had was exceptionally good. The room was very nice, bed lovely and comfortable. We would love to stay for longer next time.

Fine for quick stay
Stayed as needed a place to stay near to the Quendon Parklands Hall for a wedding. Nice pub although accommodation is rather out dated, especially the bathroom, which had silverfish running around it and the tap leaked. Bedroom itself was nice but pillows extremely soft. Breakfast was ok but not many options to choose from set menu. It did for a quick one-night stay but does need updating.

Great breakfast !
Room was ok. Areas were dusty. Towels and bed linen appeared washed so that’s the main thing. There was no heating in the shower room. I expected a towel heater or radiator? Shower cubicle could do With some attention. Although shower itself was good and powerful. Room 1. Unfortunately it was noisy with doors banging and voices? Well into the early hours. Breakfast was great, couldn’t fault it, as was the service. Coffee excellent. Liked the main interior where the fire was it was very cosy.

arrived in the dark a warm welcome from the manager . The room was lovely clean as was the bathroom. Great nights sleep bed was so comfy. dinner was superb. In the morning we looked out and there was the cricket pitch and lovely little village. Fresh cooked breakfast next morning . Can't fault it Thanks you guys

Room was ok but a little dated and in need of attention. Service was very good. Biggest disappointment was the breakfast. At best it was warm , at worst completely cold. Would probably not return

Food was fabulous.
Firstly the food was amazing and the staff couldn't do enough for you. I had a nice large bed but it was 2 singles pushed together and I wasn't very comfortable. That was my only gripe though. Would stay again though.

Recent trip
We arrived and was shown to a room ,at the back of the property . the interior walls and skirting board had black damp , on the left hand side towards the bed .The mattress was past it's usability as it was like cotton wall .The shower also had black mould , Then the shower was not working , so after 3 hrs we were moved to a room above the pub itself . Cleaner , no mould , nice firm mattress . All very good . The curry/ karaoke night on Friday was loud , but it was to be expected as they belted out all the usual classics. It was over by midnight and Saturday Evening was very pleasent. The best thing is the food , we ate and drank there both nights and although top heavy price on the wine list is applied , the food was reasonably priced. The chef deserves a pay rise as you could not fault the food 10/10 . The bar beers were good and well priced . Just saying , get the rooms up to date and par and this place would be fantastic , as long as the chef stays and maybe a few more dishes to add to a great menu .
