The Emblem, which was previously the Rex Hotel has been beautifully remodeled. It remains writer themed, now celebrating the Beat era. Beat poetry is featured on the walls in the rooms. There is a pleasant staff. There is what appears to be a very nice bar, although I did not visit it. It is located a block from Union Square and the Powell Street cable car, three blocks to BART, so access to lots of famous tourist locations. A couple of annoying details. There are no drawers in which store clothing. The shower head, a rain head type, is six feet up. There is also a handheld shower head but the switch is also six feet up, too high for a short person to reach. The coffee maker is annoying but on the plus side there is an excellent coffee shop next door.
