Charismatic 4-bedroom home on the New River

  • The Big House is located in the New River Gorge National Park, the newest national park. There is access to Sandstone Landing's patio alongside the New River. It is a fully furnished home with outdoor seating, a fire pit, and a beautiful view of the river. It is a great starting point for exploring all the beautiful sites and attractions that southern West Virginia and the New River Gorge have to offer.
    To get to the home, you will go across railroad tracks, we are near the railroad tracks. It is in a small, friendly neighborhood. You can walk to Sandstone General Store and Eatery to get any necessities you may have forgotten for your trip or get a meal.
    If you plan to fish, there is also a bait and tackle store. Be sure to have a WV fishing license to be able to fish, though. The sandstone boat launch is within walking distance of the house.
    An extra that we provide our guests is access to the Sandstone Landings patio on the river, this is a shared space with our Sandstone Landings guests. It is just a short walk from the home. The upper level of the patio is equipped with a dining table and chairs. Lower level of patio has outdoor furniture to enjoy the river view or to sit in while you fish in the New River.

Came on a little family trip and was very pleased with accommodations. Would definitely stay here again. Great communication with owners, had cookies and dog treats waiting on arrival which was very thoughtful. House very clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast at the General Store next door was great as well. Highly recommend this rental.

House was spacious and clean, very comfortable. Took about 45 min to get to the bridge. Nice close public place to put in kayaks. Trains were not a problem. Very quiet, when no train :). Nice little general store that was close. Sandstone ranger station, very close.

House was very nice and as described. Very clean. The river patio view was awesome. The only negative at all was the trains coming by and sounding alarms for the track crossing. I would like to return in the future.

Clean and comfortable. Attention to detail seen throughout house. Open and charming farmhouse. New River a few steps away for fishing. I’ll be staying here again. It is near to a railroad, but it didn’t bother me at all.

Great attention to detail with every creature comfort. There were even fresh baked cookies upon arrival! An absolutely beautiful remote location! The General Store is an added bonus, with very helpful and friendly staff.

This place has the charm of an older home with some nice modern upgrades. The river is beautiful and the train was very relaxing believe it or not. We will definitely stay there again!

The kitchen was full equipped for us to cook breakfast and dinners with. Had everything we needed. A great spice selection. The gas station has pretty much everything we may have forgot. Plenty of room for everyone. Communication witb host was great. Check in was smooth

Very Nice

The cookies was great, the sleep machines in the bedroom was amazing. The view of the River was beautiful and the convenience of the store made it very nice. Our Host was very friendly and had great communication with us.

We had a wonderful weekend at The Big House! It’s an older home with great character that is well cared for. Crystal was readily available for any questions we had and even delivered our breakfast one day!Highlights included: fresh baked cookies left to welcome us, a water cooler that was awesome for filling our water bottles with cold water, plenty of towels - folded so precisely - I took a video so I could replicate the fold at home, an easy walk to take in a close up view of the river, The General Store was so handy for a tasty breakfast before heading out for the day and the pepperoni rolls were a yummy treat at the end of the day. As other reviews have noted, it is beside an active train track which didn’t bother my family - we enjoyed watching the trains go by and 3/4 of us slept through it during the night. However, if you are a light sleeper it may not be the best choice for you. We, however, will definitely be back again!

Beautiful house with beautiful views! Was there for a quick weekend trip to go whitewater rafting and we hiked in the Sandstone Falls! The general store in the area is very convenient as well and they have good food!

Loved staying here! I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay here! Very clean place, had everything we needed and more. Such a great place to stay at, and anyone that doesn't stay here is missing out on a great place and area. The Richmond's and Boyds showed great generosity through the things,they did to provide us with a wonderful stay and delicious cookies! We love to visit again, and thank you so much!
