âBeautiful Hotel in a Great Location, But Some Details Let It Down
We recently stayed at Castello Boutique Suites in Sissi, Crete to celebrate our anniversary, and overall, we had a very good holiday. The hotel made a wonderful gesture by upgrading us to a larger suite with a private side pool, which felt so special and really set the tone for our stay. âWe had a great stay at the Maritimo ! Despite there being construction across the street, it didnât disturb us at all. Thereâs a lovely little cove right across the street as well that you can walk onto for your daily dose of sea water ! Shopping and restaurants close by! Staff was excellent ! â

âA couple of minor things to note from the hotel description; They do not operate an airport shuttle bus, and there is no car parking on site. However, there is plenty of parking in the vicinity of the hotel.
The hotel itself is absolutely perfect as far as I am concerned. It is small enough as to never seem overcrowded, even at full capacity. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Also, the bed was probably the most comfortable I've slept in when away from home.

âGreat accommodation, staff are wonderful. Breakfast was delicious! Additional food and bar drinks are pricey compared to town, not helped by poor exchange rate. Would definitely recommend, lovely walk into town. â
âGreat family run Hotel in the heart of Sissi. Really nice outside pool and pool bar. We were looked after from.the minute we arrived and nothing was too much trouble.
We will definitely return.

âA really superb accomodation ! It has everything you will need in these spacious appts...sleeping up to four easily and with a great kitchen area with huge fridge freezer and full size cooker it is realky superb ! AND a huge all you can eat buffet breakfast is included...we loved it and highly recommend this classy accomodation conveniently placed in the pretty Cretan village of Sissi !â

"We stayed at the resort for 10 days and overall had a good stay â but itâs not a 5-star resort. The place feels quite run-down, especially the rooms, which havenât been renovated in many years.
Pros:
- Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Beautiful and well-maintained surroundings.
- We were quickly offered a new room when we asked. Highly recommend choosing one with a sea view â others can have a very dull view.
- Thereâs a cozy little backyard area behind Rodius where you can enjoy a drink in the evening. Sadly, itâs often empty since itâs far from the main restaurant.
- For the price per night, comparing to many other resort, it is priceworthy.
Cons:
- The lifeguards are overly strict. I made a small dive in the pool and was immediately whistled at â very uncomfortable. I wasnât the only one who noticed; several guests felt the same.
- The rooms and parts of the hotel feel outdated and in need of renovation.
- Half board only includes the main buffet restaurant. Although the buffet is pretty good for being a buffet.
Tips:
- Rent a car if you want to explore! Avoid Hersonissos â we recommend Piskopiano instead. If youâre traveling with kids, visit Acqua Water Park (5 mins away). For a great beach nearby, go to Potamos.
Summary:
A good stay overall, but the standard doesnât match what youâd expect from a 5-star resort. "
