Scarlet Oak: Ground level suite in a heritage country home and garden.

  • Scarlet Oak is a 1930's country home on the old Kirby Shingle Mill site, nestled under boughs of a heritage Scarlet Oak tree amid towering cedars, firs, and Pacific Dogwoods. The one+ acre property is known as one of Sooke's beautiful old gardens, and has been featured on the Sooke Secret Garden tour. We will be on the garden tour this coming June 2027

    A variety of wildlife visits Scarlet Oak, and is a favourite stop over for migrating birds. This is a private gated property on a quiet street - on a popular local bike route just steps to the Galloping Goose Trail. The walking/cycling Trail can take you to the Sooke Pot Holes Regional Park over a railway trestle, and stretches as far away as Victoria. We are getting a number of guests riding bikes from Vancouver to Scarlet Oak, via BC Ferries, Lochside Regional trail, and Galloping Goose.

    Your private spacious "no stairs" suite contains a full kitchen and is always supplied with coffee beans, teas and sugar. Soaps, shampoo/conditioner, and laundry soap are also provided.

5 Star Experience

The nicest vacation rental we’ve ever stayed at! We were looking for a quiet retreat, close to great beaches and trails to explore, and this checked all the boxes. Inside the suite was spacious and bright, very clean and had everything we needed and more.

Beautiful and welcoming stay

Nancy and Tony were extremely friendly and welcoming and made us feel like we were staying at a friend’s house rather than a vacation rental. The property is beautiful and was great to walk around in, and the suite itself was full of amenities and very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay and will be back next time we visit Sooke!

We enjoyed everything about our stay ...

The accommodation is first class, the heritage property is beautiful and easy to find, the location is a perfect base for a variety of activities in the Sooke area, and Nancy and Tony, the hosts, are so friendly, helpful, and interesting to talk to. It doesn't get better than this ... we'd go back in a heartbeat!

Luxurious stay

This property is beautiful and the living space is well set up and so comfortable. Tony and Nancy are friendly and helpful hosts. Their place is in a great location near the Galloping Goose trail and not far from town. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Beautiful fairytale Setting

Exceeded all expectations, Tony and Nancy were wonderful hosts and the property was fabulous. Much roomier than expected, high quality furnishings and a luxurious outdoor seating area. We'll be back!

Gorgeous suite

Beautifully decorated suite with high spec finishes. Situated on a quiet street on an older property so it’s a lovely blend of old and new! I appreciate that the friendly hosts let me book one night only over a weekend. Their dogs are so sweet and friendly.

This is a little bit of paradise, Scarlet Oak is wonderful. The hosts are lovely, caring people that took extra care to make sure our stay was perfect. Set in a beautiful garden, the unit was really nice, clean and just right for our time in Sooke. Highly recommend this lovely place!!!

Tranquil, Cozy and Inviting

Nancy and Tom have put together a beautiful home away from home for their guests. The kitchen is fully equipped, the tub is amazing. The outdoor sitting area is as lovely as it looks. Tom and Nancy are wonderful responsive hosts. I had the best sleep, the bed is so comfy. It was just what I needed.
