Not for the early birds
Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Being above a pub, it was pretty loud until about 11.30 and breakfast isn't served until 8.30 the following morning. No soap in the bathroom, only half a toilet roll and an already opened shower gel mini. Staff were really friendly (as were the pub patrons!).

Very comfortable but loud noise from TV in bar was disturbing. didn’t stop till 11 pm. Room not serviced while we were out for the day.

Oak tree stay .
Good comfortable bed,room was smallish but did the job, needs a little bit of an upgrade to make it really nice, breakfast was excellent. Would stay again .

Booking confirmation but no room. !!
We have stayed here before and it was good. This time although we had a confirmation email there was no room available. We then had to book somewhere else at an hours notice and that cost considerably more . Not happy as we had travelled from down south and had been in the road for a few hours.

We both had a fantastic stay, very clean, staff and locals were very friendly and helpful. Great service and breakfast. Great location for things to do in the surrounding would recommend to anyone.

Very friendly and helpful staff plenty of outside seating only had the breakfast but it was the best good nights sleep too.

Superb room in annex building - more of a suite in fact as it has a sitting room with two settees and large TV. Lovely bathroom with walk-in shower, very high spec. Good size bedroom, very comfy bed and another large TV. Excellent find. Will use again.

Midweek One-Night Stay
The Oak Tree Inn is a fantastic place to stay. I turned up fairly late on a Tuesday evening and was shown to a lovely, clean room. I'd had a long drive that day and decided I could do with a pint, so I went down to the bar. There was a football match being shown and the locals watching were in good spirits. I am a fan of cask ale, and was pleased to find it in very good nick! After a couple of lovely pints, I had a cracking night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was great, too. All in all, I can recommend the Oak Tree Inn very highly. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be checking there first!

One night stay
The room was brilliant. We stayed in a cottage round the back of the pub. Modern and comfortable inside with kettle, hairdryer and shower stuff. The bathroom was tight but functional. A lovely comfortable room at a bargain price.

The Oak Tree Inn, Tantobie.
Two early seventy year olds and a granddaughter planned to visit Beamish Museum so booked in at the Oak Tree Inn at Tantobie for a 4night stay. Our family room occupied all of the top story of a little house next door to the Inn and had recently been refurbished; the lounge had two sofa-beds and a tv while the bed room had a very comfortable double bed and another tv so no viewing preferences clashes! Win-win! Food menu was a little limited but had good sized portions of very well cooked food; I have to recommend the breakfast bacon bap as I enjoyed them so much I had one every day! Both the staff and the locals made a real effort to make us welcome so we felt at home quite quickly. Beamish museum did not let us down and we had a great day out but please make time to visit the Tanfield Steam Railway which is even closer! That really is living history! The first evening we took a quick trip into Newcastle to see the bridges; something that as an engineer I have longed to see. We also managed to take in the Angel of the North, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and a fort on Hadrian’s Wall. All in all a very interesting few days exploring the area, and an ideal base at the Oak Tree. Thanks to all for making us welcome.

Tidy pub / hotel with good service
Due to a mix up, my room wasn't quite ready on time when I arrived but the people on duty couldn't have been more accommodating and a cup of tea later I was given an upgrade into a larger room. Parking at the front is a bit limited and it's in a residential area so there doesn't appear much to do of an evening on the doorstep (I did stay in thick fog so may have missed something) but the bar downstairs is popular with locals and has a good range of beers on at reasonable prices. The food was fantastic, I had nachos and a selection of tapas... much larger portions than you might normally expect and I was stuffed by the end of it - breakfast was also hot, tasty and speedily served. The bathroom is worthy of a mention by itself, spacious and well fitted out with modern bathroom furniture it was a pleasure to have a relaxing hot shower in such nice surroundings. This is a belting little pub / hotel and ideally located for work in Consett, Chester-Le-Street or Gateshead (which is only about 7 or 8 miles away), offering much better value than city centre hotels if you don't need to be in a city like Newcastle.
