Casa Carlos, som dateras i början av 1800-talet, är en av de få fastigheterna i Taos som är tillgänglig för uthyrning, som är upptagen i både det nationella registret över historiska platser (USAs inrikesdepartement) och New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties. Den tidigare hemmet och studion av Charles "Carlos" Berninghaus, en noterad Taos konstnär och son till Oscar Berninghaus, som var en av grundarna av Taos konstkoloni på 1920-talet. Detta vackra exempel på en adobe casita restaurerades autentiskt och vackert anlagd av sin tidigare ägare, grundaren av Taos berömda El Monte Sagrado Resort. Interiören, utsidan och grunderna har noggrant bevarats och metodiskt tenderat att göra detta hem till en skatt för återvändande gäster som kallar Casa Carlos sin "home away from home". En sällsynt egenskap i den höga öknen är hemets lummiga trädgård, som har en vacker damm, trickling vatten, skuggade träd, olika och blommande planteliv, besök från många vackra fåglar och ett gräsbevuxet område. En privat badtunna, flera sittplatser och en utomhusgasgrill finns också i trädgården. De nuvarande ägarna har renoverat hemmet i kolonialtiden mexikanska, indiska, indonesiska / holländska och rumänska antika möbler samt original konst och tryckfotografi från Mexiko och sydväst.

Hemmet är en lätt promenad till staden och Taos Plaza för måltider, eller utnyttja hemmets fullt utrustade moderna kök att äta i, eller grill ute och äta utomhus i trädgården. Hemmet är fyllt med spel, pussel, DVD / film och kabel / Blue Ray underhållningssystem för familjetid och avkoppling i det vackert inredda vardagsrummet, som har korkade viga tak, en kiva spis och rikligt naturligt ljus.

We loved our stay at Casa Carlos. You could tell this property has been curated with love. All the fun decor and art, the impeccable restorations, and Taos charm made this stay very special. It’s close to plaza but also veey quiet. We slept great in the comfy king bed, enjoyed the hot tub one night and loved sitting in the living room by the kiva fireplace. The property manager, Linda, is a delight to work with. They didn’t miss a thing. Five star all the way!

Great getaway, wonderful location

We loved our stay at Casa Carlos. What an amazing, beautiful and comfortable home. We enjoyed all the treasures throughout the house. Quirky art, crafts, furnishings - a feast for the eyes.We slept well, too, in this quiet neighborhood, and made good use of the relaxing back yard complete with pond and hot tub. Holiday get away at Casa Carlos

Everything was top notch! The property was so cool - historical with modern updates and comfort. Well stocked kitchen, record player with great mix of records to play, hot tub, super close to the old square - couldn't have asked for more. Both property management and caretaker were super attentive, communicative and nice.10/10 would stay here again.

Charming Casita Close to Town

This property has so much character. Lots of local/indigenous art. Very well equipped kitchen. Large comfortable spaces to hang out. The best part for us, though, was the back yard. A hot tub, a beautifully maintained garden with a small pond and waterfall. Several places to sit with tables and chairs. Short walk to town and short drive to many interesting sites and restaurants. Safe neighborhood. We loved it here.

Amazing Place

We loved the home and had an amazing time. It is beautiful and the decor was very much New Mexico. It is in a great area where you can walk safely to the plaza. The garden is beautiful and tranquil. We had breakfast and coffee outside. We look forward to being back!

Amazing place and location.

Casa Carlos was the perfect spot for my family of 3. Very easy check in and out process. Close to downtown shops and restaurants. Easy drive to Taos Ski valley. The place is exactly as pictured. Very comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub and everything Casa Carlos had to offer. We are already planning our next trip back to Taos and will definitely stay here again.

Great Location

Easy access to downtown and shopping. Great character and cosy. One issue is the bed in the main bedroom. It slopes to the middle and it is very firm. If that’s your preference, then I would say it is fine. It could use another mattress and topper to make this stay an A+.

Mother & Daughters Getaway

My sister and I take our 92-year-old mother somewhere every year for a getaway, This year we chose Taos, since Mom hadn't been there in over 50 years. We had a lovely time walking the old town squares of Taos and Santa Fe. This home is walkable to several areas and close to a great grocery store. We walked every day, came home for a quick soak in the hot tub, then had a quiet dinner every evening. The home was sparkling clean and well stocked with everything we needed, as well as great instructions for using the amenities (fireplace, hot tub, etc.). We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to Taos. The charming, authentic decor really got us into the mood to enjoy the area, which a more modern hotel or condo wouldn't have done. Five Stars all the way! Just be prepared to navigate in Taos with it's narrow streets and odd corners, it's great to have a place where you can walk and not drive (or have to park) very much! Don't miss the drive up to the ski valley, it's so beautiful in the mountains!

Old Adobe Charm Minutes from Everything

This place is gorgeous. My husband, our two sons and I stayed and we loved it. Every last inch of the is place oozes old Taos beauty and charm. The garden is spectacular, and a wonderful place to spend time with friends. I would 100% stay here again.

Old World Charm

Charming Casa Carlos

Property was lovely. The location was perfect. The caretakers, Bill and Linda were great. The kitchen and pantry were well stocked. Plenty of towels. The Casa did get a little warm for us during the day but might be fine for others (76 degrees). The indoor seating options were not that comfortable and the bed was too firm for us. But we are older and have arthritis so it might be fine for younger folks.
