We loved our 3 night stay at this very special and quirky boutique hotel. The room and the premises in general were above our expectations and different from any hotel we had ever been to before. The paintings everywhere and the underground saltwater cave really added to the atmosphere. The people working here were super friendly and welcoming. We had a massage in the spa and did yoga which is every Friday morning at the hotel. The cenotes in town are beautiful and extremely cheap compared to Tulum - so is taxis (30 pesos) and food if you go to the less touristy places.
On the downside:
- it did not feel genuine eco as drinks were served in single use plastic containers. The kitchen was being renovated during the time of our stay, but I still do not think this is a good enough excuse for using this much plastic in the restaurant. We also tried to have our water bottles refilled, but instead we were given new ones every day.
- We chose to pay for our stay directly to the hotel which we do not recommend, rather use hotels.com or similar. Two days before our arrival date, they requested us to email the CVC code on our card in order for us to keep the booking. According to them, it was just their process. We were not comfortable with this.
- The restaurant recommendations by the reception was way too touristy for our taste, not genuine mexican cuisine at all. Experience the true Valladolid by looking up and going to the cantinas which is where you will find the locals.
