The pictures in this listing are exactly what you’ll find in this beautiful, light and personally decorated Varenna apartment, and the location couldn’t be better! We arrived with many dining recommendations from a local Italian friend, and found they’re all just steps away from this centrally located apartment. My family of five (three kids) loved staying here, and we appreciated the extra bathroom upstairs to spread out, as well as the outdoor drying rack to dry wet clothes and towels.
The apartment boasts a beautiful lake view and was thoughtfully designed to enjoy it. The upstairs chairs are so comfortable – combined with a glass of wine and the water/mountain view, and it’s a little slice of Heaven! The apartment is right in the center of town, about halfway up the lower stairs. Come prepared to walk on cobblestones and steps, which are plentiful! While the temp was hot and the apartment has air conditioning, we never felt the need to turn it on. It stayed cool enough while we were our exploring during the days, and cooled right down with the cross breeze from open windows, which we left open all night. Despite the open windows, we were not bothered by bugs or noise, and somehow every window is open but private.
The apartment is clean and spacious with plenty of towels, dishes, and more incidentals than we could have expected. A lovely touch of hospitality, when Mara and Paolo checked us in, they presented a large chilled water, milk and Prosecco, as well as cookies. This was our 3rd VRBO in Italy, and outshined all with these wonderful extra touches!
We ate out, rather than cook while on vacation, and had fabulous meal after fabulous meal: Al Prato, Osteria Quattro Pass, Cavatappi to name a few. We walked many miles/day during our 4-night visit, and found this apartment to be an amazing place to “come home” to.
Check in and out was easy. We arrived in the middle of a huge storm, and Mara met us at the parking garage with umbrellas. We didn’t see the car again until we left. Everything we wanted to see was just steps (literally and figuratively) from this spot. There is so much so see all around Varenna (Castello di Vezia is a must for the hike and the view), and by ferry around the lake. Bellagio and other destinations on the lake are a short boat ride away.
We loved our stay in this gem of an apartment and would happily both recommend and stay here again. Thank you to Marco and family for your hospitality!
